for most of the night, we were served by a nice friendly, quiet spoken, humble guy. there are certain aspects that could be improved upon to lift the overall dining experience of therestaurantbut we enjoyed the food we ate which was tasty. i particularly enjoyed the lamb palak and plain naan and rice. the platter needs more items added or the price dropped. if you’re in the mood for indian, it’s worth dropping by though i’d favour the take away option. by now i’ve probably stopped sweating. cash only, byo, no corkage charge, and “medium” heat is quite pungent.

eating at mother india is like being welcomed into someone's home. there are different rooms to the 'house' our area had about 17 diners.  therestaurantwas busy and also seemed to be doing a roaring trade  with takeaway orders which may have been the reason for us having to wait a while for our orders to be taken, .it's not a fine dining experience and the plates we were given didn't match, but to be honest that for us added to the quirkiness of place. our server was absolutely lovely, friendly and discouraged us from over-ordering e.g. rice and paratha - indicating what would be enough for our party of 4 (she was right). my husband ordered vindaloo - he was warned it would be hot (which it was but got the thumbs up for taste). we literally felt like we had an indian feast - pappadums, onion bhaji's, samosas, chicken vindaloo, chicken madras and chicken tikka masala with turmeric rice and paratha came to $134.50 for 4 people. all the curries had abundant meat and the sauces were thick and delicious. therestaurantis byo and well worth a visit - but do book.

this place deserves more than a 5.0! the food is absolutely out of this world. i have struggled to find authentic indian flavours that haven’t been dulled down or tweaked. mother india absolutely nails the flavours, and use good quality meat (and don’t rip you off). therestaurantitself mirrors someone’s living room so i’d recommend taking away! i’ll be back again and again.

you have a feeling that you're in for a treat when you roll up to arestaurantand the grandmother is sitting outside the front of therestauranttaking a breather from the kitchen. mother india would have to be one of the best authentic indian restaurants i have ever been to. everything from the beef vindaloo to the naan bread was spot on. therestaurantlooked liked it may have been a corner deli in a previous life and you have to look twice upon arriving as you get the feeling you've made a wrong turn and missed the restaurant. but as long as therestaurantis clean and serves great food, nothing else really matters. the service was great, the cost was reasonable and its byo with no corkage! i love going to these hidden little suburban gems. in saying that, i have a feeling that it wont be hidden for too much longer...

smallrestaurantthat does some good indian food at reasonable prices. have had the butter chicken and naan bread from here- the butter chicken here is different to other butter chickens i've had in that it's a tad spicy. which isn't a good or bad thing- just different!

when you first see this place, you are definitely unsure of what it will entail... a little old house converted into a restaurant. but i can tell you this is the best indian you will ever eat! we have been to thisrestauranta number of times and it never disappoints! butter chicken and chicken korma are faves for sure! mother india brings india to perth!

great flavours but the beef let it down. i have passed mother india many times before i realised it actually existed. its clearly very popular the staff were very welcoming. given the high scores and comments on urban spoon i was expecting something special. upon seating we were offered a complimentary onion bhaji taster and i must say it was probably the best i have ever had and i eat indian food on a regular basis.
my wife had the butter chicken and i had the beef madras. the butter chicken was simply superb. the spices were very tasty and well balanced and the chicken was perfectly cooked. however, the beef madras was a disappointment. although the flavour of the sauce was excellent the beef was almost inedible. it had every range of textures from being chewy, fatty, so tough i couldn't cut it with a knife to being perfectly cooked. what a shame because the rest was so good. with perfectly cooked beef the dish would be transformed.
i will definitely go back again but i wont be touching the beef. if the owners get that right thisrestaurantcould claim to be one of the very best indian restaurants in perth. if they continue to serve the beef like i had they will become part of the following pack.

bartonicus. i agree with the previous commentator on thisrestaurantas the food is consistently good. have used it for a few years now and decided to pen this critique after having a disappointing meal at the copper chimney. indian food is the most satisfying dining experience for me (and wife) when the food is well prepared and freshly cooked which thisrestaurantdoes with flying colours. we use it mainly as a takeaway as therestaurantitself is small and falls down on decor but i have been eating indian food for 48 years split between the uk and australia and mother india is well up the ladder on quality. i would like them to see them add a few more additions to their menu to stand apart from the crowd such as balti dishes but that is for another day.

the mothers milk of indian feeds! superb goan fish curry is second to none!. this unassuming little place used to be located in cottesloe, i thought it had closed permanently until the smell wafting across the traffic and putrid sheep trucks of this strange part of freo alerted me of its presence. i am so glad! i have been to probably every 'significant' indianrestaurantin perth and this one trumpts the lot! and its cheaper! the best goan fish curry i have had! the bonus of byo, amazing naans! the lot! the vindaloo has a real decent kick and is perhaps unadvisable for some of the weaker curry feasters. i have tried everything on the menu and would recommend each and every single one! last time i had a huge crew here, and rather than dismiss a motley looking bunch of young alcho's they gave us free vegetarian curries in addition to our massive order! i cannot fathom how average - woeful places such as chutney marys can continue to trade so successfully when arestaurantas superb as this exists? probably because mother india is such a generous lady!

most authentic curries. this is probably the best and most authentic indianrestauranti have found south of the river. the curries truly are amazing and full of flavour. therestaurantis tiny and quite hidden so don't expect 'fine-dining'. the service is always fast and friendly. i strongly recommend this to any curry lovers chasing the best indian around.

wonderful mother india. 7 of us dined at mother india last night after reading reviews from urbanspoon and receiving confirmation from a sri lankan lady at work that this was the best indian in perth - and i agree. we wondered when we arrived if we were at the right place as therestaurantis a house, in what appers a residential area. the decor is very simple but the service was outstanding - very relaxed and happy staff. the food was amazing, full of flavour and all freshly made. we'd definitely recommend mother india to anyone who's looking for a relaxed, reasonably priced indian meal in freo, it lives up to its high reputation.
