eating at motherindiais like being welcomed into someone's home. there are different rooms to the 'house' our area had about 17 diners.  the restaurant was busy and also seemed to be doing a roaring trade  with takeaway orders which may have been the reason for us having to wait a while for our orders to be taken, .it's not a fine dining experience and the plates we were given didn't match, but to be honest that for us added to the quirkiness of place. our server was absolutely lovely, friendly and discouraged us from over-ordering e.g. rice and paratha - indicating what would be enough for our party of 4 (she was right). my husband ordered vindaloo - he was warned it would be hot (which it was but got the thumbs up for taste). we literally felt like we had an indian feast - pappadums, onion bhaji's, samosas, chicken vindaloo, chicken madras and chicken tikka masala with turmeric rice and paratha came to $134.50 for 4 people. all the curries had abundant meat and the sauces were thick and delicious. the restaurant is byo and well worth a visit - but do book.

this place deserves more than a 5.0! the food is absolutely out of this world. i have struggled to find authentic indian flavours that haven’t been dulled down or tweaked. motherindiaabsolutely nails the flavours, and use good quality meat (and don’t rip you off). the restaurant itself mirrors someone’s living room so i’d recommend taking away! i’ll be back again and again.

you have a feeling that you're in for a treat when you roll up to a restaurant and the grandmother is sitting outside the front of the restaurant taking a breather from the kitchen. motherindiawould have to be one of the best authentic indian restaurants i have ever been to. everything from the beef vindaloo to the naan bread was spot on. the restaurant looked liked it may have been a corner deli in a previous life and you have to look twice upon arriving as you get the feeling you've made a wrong turn and missed the restaurant. but as long as the restaurant is clean and serves great food, nothing else really matters. the service was great, the cost was reasonable and its byo with no corkage! i love going to these hidden little suburban gems. in saying that, i have a feeling that it wont be hidden for too much longer...

motherindiafrom the outside might not seem like the ideal place to go for dinner, but dont be fooled. this place is the honestly the mother of all indian restraunts.

located amongst residential housing in east freo this place is amazing. remember make a booking because these guys sell out most nights and bring cash because thats all they take which they deserve.

the beef vindaloo is the hottest curry i've ever had, but so god damn good!!!!

tonight we had the royal motherindiabanquet, the food here is very fresh and good quality produce is used in all dishes. all dishes are spiced nicely and the quantity of food povided in the banquet was very satisfying for four people.

payment is either cash or direct funds transfer by your banks phone app at the counter, no eftpos.

i thoroughly enjoyed the food here and i will definitely be back.

when you first see this place, you are definitely unsure of what it will entail... a little old house converted into a restaurant. but i can tell you this is the best indian you will ever eat! we have been to this restaurant a number of times and it never disappoints! butter chicken and chicken korma are faves for sure! motherindiabringsindiato perth!

great flavours but the beef let it down. i have passed motherindiamany times before i realised it actually existed. its clearly very popular the staff were very welcoming. given the high scores and comments on urban spoon i was expecting something special. upon seating we were offered a complimentary onion bhaji taster and i must say it was probably the best i have ever had and i eat indian food on a regular basis.
my wife had the butter chicken and i had the beef madras. the butter chicken was simply superb. the spices were very tasty and well balanced and the chicken was perfectly cooked. however, the beef madras was a disappointment. although the flavour of the sauce was excellent the beef was almost inedible. it had every range of textures from being chewy, fatty, so tough i couldn't cut it with a knife to being perfectly cooked. what a shame because the rest was so good. with perfectly cooked beef the dish would be transformed.
i will definitely go back again but i wont be touching the beef. if the owners get that right this restaurant could claim to be one of the very best indian restaurants in perth. if they continue to serve the beef like i had they will become part of the following pack.

bartonicus. i agree with the previous commentator on this restaurant as the food is consistently good. have used it for a few years now and decided to pen this critique after having a disappointing meal at the copper chimney. indian food is the most satisfying dining experience for me (and wife) when the food is well prepared and freshly cooked which this restaurant does with flying colours. we use it mainly as a takeaway as the restaurant itself is small and falls down on decor but i have been eating indian food for 48 years split between the uk and australia and motherindiais well up the ladder on quality. i would like them to see them add a few more additions to their menu to stand apart from the crowd such as balti dishes but that is for another day.

easily best indian in perth. i have never posted a review on anything before but feel i had to here. im extremely fussy when it comes to eating indian in australia and for years have never found one i have enjoyed since moving from the uk. however motherindiais by far the closest indian to those in england and i would happily go well out of my way to get a take away from here than any of the others close to where i live. fantastic!! i just hope i don't curse myself now after writing this review.

great food. we float around where we get our indians from, but motherindiais always in our top 3. food is flavoursome has some good flavors through the dishes. ordered here around 10 times and never been disappointed.

the only thing i would request to add on your leaflets is notify its cash only, as the nearest cash machine is a 10 min round journey.

not sure why everyone is raving. went for the first time saturday night. the place was full and there were heaps of people coming in during our meal to collect their takeaway orders. that gave me great hopes for the meal we were about to consume - lamb rogan josh vege korma, beef vindaloo, 2 serves of saffron rice, and a garlic + peshwari naan.
where do i start on the quality? the lamb curry was flavoursome but the meat was fatty and inedible. similarly the beef curry had a beautiful flavour but the meat itself was overcooked, making it tough and chewy instead of tender and flaky. the vege dish was nice but the saffron rice tasted like plain basmati - hardly any saffron colour or flavour! the naan bread was okay - garlic one needed salt or butter or something to tone down the garlic, while the peshwari was not one of the better ones i've ever tasted.
all up, the 5 of us spent just $75 which sounds like value but isn't really considering the quality.
also their knowledge on food allergies, specifically gluten free, is seriously limited and this is reflected in limited menu options.
we didn't complain on the night mainly because the service was so friendly. clearly the team behind motherindiais doing their best to provide a great local eatery and they do it with a smile which is paying off for them.

the mothers milk of indian feeds! superb goan fish curry is second to none!. this unassuming little place used to be located in cottesloe, i thought it had closed permanently until the smell wafting across the traffic and putrid sheep trucks of this strange part of freo alerted me of its presence. i am so glad! i have been to probably every 'significant' indian restaurant in perth and this one trumpts the lot! and its cheaper! the best goan fish curry i have had! the bonus of byo, amazing naans! the lot! the vindaloo has a real decent kick and is perhaps unadvisable for some of the weaker curry feasters. i have tried everything on the menu and would recommend each and every single one! last time i had a huge crew here, and rather than dismiss a motley looking bunch of young alcho's they gave us free vegetarian curries in addition to our massive order! i cannot fathom how average - woeful places such as chutney marys can continue to trade so successfully when a restaurant as superb as this exists? probably because motherindiais such a generous lady!
