what a lovely start to the weekend. we had a zomato meetup for breakfast at morgenhof. the setting isbeautifulwith a fireplace to warm you up on a cold morning. so you can snuggle up on the coach infront of the fire before or after breakfast.
the mc was a nice start to what followed. for me the eggs benedict was the best. the sauce is not so rich and i will highly recommend it. the salmon croissant is also very good. the scramble eggs were creamy and fluffy. the food are beautifully presented. i would highly recommend breakfast here before you walk over to the tasting room for some wine tasting.

i was treated to a morning out in the winelands by zomato at morgenhof, and all i can say is i wish every morning could start that way! bubbly and breakie, who doesn't want that :)
the staff their are fantastic... so friendly and helpful. and boy, do some of them know their wines!
we got a tasting of their new brekkie menu, which started off with a healthy yog and muesli, with fresh tangy raspberries, yum!
then the croissant with smoked salmon and scrambled egg (the egg could've been cooked a bit more, but hey, that's a personal preference).
that was followed by an eggs benni, (super hollandaise!), a traditional fry up, and others had the french toast - this was served with walnuts and fresh mango, nice fresh idea for this!
the farm's mcc went side by side with all of this - this, could be my new favourite bubbly :)
the ambience is great with a roarimg fire to keep you toasty. make sure yo take a stroll around thebeautifulgardens and a visit to the tasting room!

i am a big fan of a solid breakfast and a great variety, so i was very happy we got to try 4 dishes on the breakfast menu. we were welcomed by a very knowledgable marketing manager who was very warm and friendly. we got to have some morgenhof bubbles with breakie (2010 brut reserve), which is always a must on a wine farm right? we had breakfast in the restaurant with a log fire going, perfect as we move into winter. what abeautifulsetting to dine in. breathtaking views. we started with muesli, fruit and yogurt. followed by a mini version of salmon, cream cheese and scrambled egg. next up was the ham benedict, delicious. our 4th and final dish was a very tasty english breakfast. coffee all round. a real treat and i also see they currently have a lunch/dinner special running. do it, i really enjoyed the farm and restaurant. we also did a little wine tasting, even though it was still morning. i'm a rebel like that! i bought some wine and have already had a bottle. their fantail range red is a great easy drinking wine and well priced at around r45. i'll be back for breakfast soon...

we had such a lovely summer picnic here a few months ago! after some bubbly and a tour of the historic estate, we tucked into some picnic baskets that were more than enough to share between two people!

the biltong paté was to die for and we couldn't get enough of it! the fresh bread was a perfect vessel for the paté, cheeses and various preserves that were in the baskets and the marinated aubergine, sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms were divine. we also had minted cucumber and salmon wraps which were gorgeous!

i absolutely want to go back here soon on abeautifulsunny day!

sunday lunch out in the winelands unexpectedly ended up in thebeautifulgardens of morgenhof after our not so food-inspired friends proclaimed that a three course meal at overture was a bit too over the top for them. after boldly suggesting that we go to morgenhof, i would be lying if i said i wasn't slightly nervous and afraid that i may have chosen the wrong place for a family get together. but i can now happily report that i was proven wrong!

firstly, what abeautifulsetting! i can see why so many people rave about their picnics - blue mountains in the background, surrounded by lush lawns, blooming flowers (even in the onset of winter) and shady trees. i was quite surprised that they were still choosing to let people sit outside, since end of may in cape town is usually quite cold. luckily it was a warm day and we had no problem with the seating arrangement.

our waiter promptly brought us some water for the table, our drinks and some wine, along with a basket of some of the freshest bread i've ever tasted. warm, fluffy bread rolls and chunky health bread topped with sesame seeds. i was in bread heaven!

for starters, we had the butternut soup, chicken livers and the deep fried cheese with beetroot. the butternut soup was delicious and just the right amount, being thick and creamy, but not too rich. the mostbeautifuldish was definitely the beetroot, which seemed to go down quite well, as did the chicken livers.

not too long after our starters, our mains of salmon, oxtail pie and lamb shoulder arrived. the salmon was served with black rice, which could also be substituted for chips. the fish itself was mediocre, being a bit dry without the accompanying sauce and the skin not quite crispy enough, but satisfactory nonetheless. the lamb shoulder got the thumbs up, but the standout dish was definitely the oxtail pie. cooked to perfection, crispy pastry and served with a delicious polenta, it was south african cuisine at its best!

we waited quite a while to be asked if we'd like dessert, and by that time it was too late to order as we had to be on our way. a pity, because their fondant, cheesecake and carrot cake cupcakes would've gone down quite well.

overall, a lovely dining experience at a decent price! very relaxed vibe out on the lawns and absolutely perfect for a family outing. especially for the kids, since there's a jumping castle and plenty of space to run around. i would recommend it for a family lunch or a lazy sunday picnic on a nice day. be warned that service is quite slow, so preferably don't come here if you're in a rush. otherwise, i was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be returning some day for a picnic!

lovely lunch! hearty portions! for lunch during your wine tasting adventures, this is the spot to consider! we were seated outside under the trees on abeautifulday, with the peacocks lazing around for the perfect ambiance. suggested wines at cellar prices too, rounds off an excellent meal.

had abeautifulfriday picnic and wine this past friday for the #zomatomeetup! it was the perfect summers day, with a slight breeze, making it perfect to sit in the sun under some trees.
we were shown around the estate and we were luckily enough to see the underground cellar. it was sobeautifuland interesting to see how they make their wines and the history behind it. definitely one of my top wine estates thus far.
afterwards, we went back to our table were our picnic baskets were packed beautifully and placed on he lawn waiting for us.

it was one basket between two and portion sizes were great- most of us didn't finish the basket! my favourite from the basket was the biltong pate spread on the freshly baked roll. i couldn't eat enough of it! it went very well with their estate chardonnay!

i had a great time and met lots of awesome people! i would definitely recommend having a picnic at thisbeautifulwine farm this summer! jenny sarah coulson the cape town glutton vincent van tonder bronwyn coltman

oh morgenhof. you make my heart happy. i attended the morgenhof foodie meetup which absolutely took my breath away. the evening was perfectly set with the crisp winter air, their fireplace was warm and toasty giving off a rustic farm style vibe. perfect for the night that lay ahead.

we were welcomed with abeautifulglass of their 2010 mcc which kicked the night off. the starters of tempura prawn and crumbed mushrooms with blue cheese had us eager for more.

we then went on to our second starters (yes, second round). the starters tasting board consisted of the smoothest and tastiest liver pate, fresh ciabatta bread, olive bread, beef carpaccio, brie cheese parcels and abeautifulchicken and pork roll paired with their phenomenal 2014 chardonnay.

on to the mains... oh the mains. a tasting board of happiness paired with a variety of wines. there were 5 mini tasting of morgenhofs best meals which consisted of everything you could dream of. lamb burger, kudu fillet, pasta.... need i say more? the estate merlot took my heart and shattered it into a million pieces. to die for.

desserts. wow... we were spoiled for choice. sticky malva pudding with vanilla and honey comb ice cream, red velvet crepe and the best mini cheese cake you will ever have.

this was the best start to the weekend. with great company and great food, morgenhof is a must to everyone traveling to the cape.

what abeautifulevening friday evening was at morgenhof..
the ambiance is quiet and relaxed.beautifultable set up.
the wines were lovely. the quality and presentation of the food was amazing. my only mark down on the evening was was too much lamb pairing, and i don't eat lamb or pork.. so they ended up just giving me a piece of chicken with salad.. i had to ask for red meat to pair with my red wine, as i didn't state i was vegetarian, i love meat, but it lamb and pork, so i felt like a bit of an after thought that evening..

what an amazing find! i absolutely loved our zomato meetup at morgenhof restaurant. it's always so great to meet people who have a real passion for what they do.

we were welcomed to thebeautifulfarm with a warm fire on a cold winters evening which already set the scene for a great night. the decor was also just too stunning. our hosts and servers made us feel very welcome and our wine maker ensured we paired our food and wine correctly and gave us a great wine tutorial throughout the meal.

we enjoyed a wonderful platter with a variety of starters, which included a lovely phyllo parcel and the most amazing homemade olive bread amongst a number of other starters.

i was terribly sad to start my main as it was one of those meals that was too pretty to eat but in the end i did manage to ruin the lovely plating. i really loved the fillet with the most delicious sweet potato crips as well as the chicken tagliatelle.

our trio of desserts was also plated so lovely, something that was consistent throughout the night. the malva pudding was a real winner for me!

overall a wonderful experience made even more wonderful by our lovely hosts. can't wait to be back in summer to enjoy the outside area!
