monty's blue plate diner

waited 30 mins for a table then another 20 before i stood up to ask a server to visit our table. ridiculous.

i've been wanting to try monty's blue plate diner ever since i moved to madison. but every time i've tried to go, there's been a line out the door, so i've gone elsewhere. however, on mother's day at two in the afternoon, although there were people sitting outside, we were able to get in without a wait.

inside is a definite retro diner feel. there's also a display case w/amazing looking pies.

our waitress escorted us to a table, brought us waters, and took our drink orders. the menu is heavy on the breakfast items. however, my brother and i were both in the mood for lunch. i ordered the meatloaf stack and my brother got a burger with a side of fries. he made a comment to the waitress that he wanted the fries really crispy. crunchy he said.

while waiting for our meal we continued to peruse the menu. their desserts and dessert drinks look and sound amazing. when i go back, i will be sure and save room for those.

it took awhile for the food to come out and when it did, it was sans fries. but the waitress explained that she had sent the fries back because they were definitely not crispy enough. when she did bring them out a few minutes later, they were perfect! crispy, crunchy, really fried. kudos to the cooks and kudos to our awesome waitress for taking care of us like that. the rest of the food was also quite good. my meatloaf was perfect. i could have used more gravy for the mound of mashed potatoes, the onion rings were thin and crispy. my brother said his burger was excellent.

we left stuffed and pleased. i definitely want to go back. i just need to find a time when the line is not out the door.

went to monty's after having the worst experience at orient house on park st. i ordered a milkshake and my words ordered waffle fries and cheesecake. i was not disappointed nor am i ever with monty's. i had a chocolate covered strawberry vanilla milkshake that was sublime. it was too big for me to finish but great. my wife's cheesecake was great. it was not too sweet it was just right. will return many times to this restaurant.

i love it. living in la crosse where vegan offerings are slim to none, it is great to go to a place who recognizes the joy and need for vegan food. i am not a regular at monty's but when i have gone i have been really happy with the choices and quality of food. a retro place with a variety of offerings for vegans and vegetarians.

it is a busy place and every time i have gone it is packed. there is seating outside when the weather is nice. it is family friendly, average prices and big portions of food.

it is in an interesting neighborhood and there is an effort to make sure you are getting what you want and asked for there.

amazing clearly unique vegan menu. and so very delicious and flavorful. by far some of the best vegan food i’ve ever had. reasonable prices, too.

i always take my family here when they come in from out of town. we are all vegetarian, with various degrees of lactose tolerance. i always make a point to get the vegetarian soup of the day, and i have never been disappointed. i love a restaurant that will reliably hit me with a good vegetarian soup. more often than not, i also get the heathen vegan sandwich, but i always add cheese because 1) i'm not vegan and 2) i love joy.i've taken g/f and g/s friends to monty's and heard no reports of upset tumms, or otherwise. so, i'd give montys a 5/5 for catering to special diets well.  the pies at monty's are just awesome too. for pi day this year, i got my boyfriend and i a mississippi mud pie to share, and ultimately caught him eating it out of the fridge at midnight with his hands.all in all, there's a reason monty's has been around as long as it has, and its the consistently fun atmosphere and good food.

pan cakes with blur berries were awsum.
country breakfast which consits of bacon and orange juice and american fried patato and a home made busict .
really loved the food over yere and will surely come again.

always enjoy the food here at monty's. busy place much of the time, but i always find the meal is well worth the wait. love the historic deco gas station building, historic photos on the wall, and the vintage decor. friendly servers always.

absolutely the best catering in this city! the food is fantastic and always delivered with a smile! i can't say enough about valree and the chefs. they've done breakfast, lunch and dinner and even customized a meal for a group meeting with items that aren't even on the menu. i work for a large hospital in madison and they've done more than a half dozen events for me now! just extraordinary service and food!

good but not cheap. the food is ok (if you like greasy and salty).
the prices are not cheap.

perfect!!. we stumbled upon monty's during a recent daytrip to madison!! lucky for us. great food, friendly staff and wonderful mix of customers. my triple cheese grilled cheese on sourdough was awesome!! we bought a slice of key lime pie for the road!! after filling our tummies we went snowshoeing on nearby lake monona...a perfect day. thanks for the memories.

so good! my friends and i went here while on our way to indianapolis and i'm so glad we did. cute atmosphere but the food is delicious. my friends got shakes and raved about them. i got the chilaquiles: one of the best i've had in a while. everyone else really enjoyed their food as well -- they got a monte cristo, meatless meatloaf, and pot roast. we all nearly cleaned our plates. i think we're gonna try to stop by again on our way back!

great experience!. i am a vegetarian and my boyfriend is, well, most certainly not. this is one of the few places around madison that we both love. i personally love the "meatless loaf of the gods", their homemade vegetarian meatloaf. wait staff is always on top of things and very friendly. would also recommend their malts!

great local food for family. we ate dinner and breakfast here on on way to michigan. great food and lovely service. we'll be back next time we're in madison
