the food here is really lovely!! a little over priced for the value :/ the pizzas aren’t the best i’ve ever had but are still really good. it’s such a beautiful atmosphere however, it’s quiet large so when it’s a little quiet you sometimes have to holla at the staff. other than that it’s a beautiful date spot or a sunday arvo chill place where you can walk around the vineyard.

montalto winery has great wine (the pinot was great for this sunny day) and great pizza. both these pizzas were delicious (napoli, buffalo mozzarella & basil ·
roast pork, stracciatella, confit garlic, pickled chilli & chive) . service was pleasant. great ambience.

visited with friends for a joint birthday two weeks ago. enjoyed the tasting menu for lunch. absolutely overjoyed with the generosity and variety of delicious dishes that came out, excellent service and gorgeous wines. only disappointment were the desserts. the chocolate rum cake was quite tasteless and came out on a plate with no garnish other than a small flower on top and the lavender lemon curd tart had no hint of lavender and was very small. nice coffee though. will definitely return for lunch and a stroll through the vines but will seek out dessert somewhere else.

we came here on a day trip to the mornington peninsula and visited montalto winery, stopping at its restaurant for lunch. this place does a great pizza, we got the pepperoni with ricotta cheese and leaves. it also has a great view of the vineyards!

the service is terrible. they need to improve on table seating arrangements. do not come here if you have a big group as they will struggle to seat you. bookings were not available if you had less than 13 adults. it is like they wanted make it difficult for customers and themselves.

food is pretty normal, nothing particularly astounding.

my vegetarian friend and i enjoyed some fabulous dishes, excellent coffee and friendly service in this beautiful restaurant in a green setting overlooking hills and vineyards. my friend had the delicious fried haloumi and the warm roast pumpkin salad on a bed of garlic yoghurt with harissa and crunchy deep fried chick peas. i had the very yummy chargrilled squid with mint and pine nuts and the marinated egg plant: both were faultless. generous portions too. i've been here before and i'll go again. one of the delights of the red hill area.

food is amazing in this place and the setting is quite lovely. staff is friendly and accommodating. we had the wine maker's choice, which came with the most beautiful selection of cured meats, picked vegetables and cheese. and the wine... we loved the pinot noir.

this is a chef who is great with vegetables and loves to showcase each one with interesting flavours. however, this chef has basically zero passion for meat / fish. while cooked well (though a touch dry), it is an afterthought and it shows.

some of the flavour combinations were ambitious attempts but simply did not work (like the mackerel dish - even after heaping on various fermented vegetables, it was overly fishy on one end and overly acidic on the other and unpleasant all round). some combinations were completely bland and unambitious like the chicken caesar salad.

others were actually quite interesting and worked well, like the various anchovy / tuna spread in a bun or that hollondaise corn salad.

i also tried their premium chardonnay and it was passable but nothing to write home about.

not a disaster - simply 'meh' and overpriced for what it is.

my suggestion is that the chef does what he loves - make great vegetarian dishes using whatever is in season and keep those interesting fluffy textured fish pastes / buns etc.

service was pleasant.

we had lunch at montalto today, i’ve been trying to get here for years to do the picnic but we decided to eat in the pizzeria instead given the picnic is $100pp and doesn’t involve any hot food (or drinks). this was a great idea as there’s a lovely view (we sat outside) and the food was pretty yummy.

service was a little crazed but i really enjoyed my husbands lamb shoulder dish when it arrived. my margherita style pizza wasn’t as nice. it was salty, lukewarm and the base was very crispy. the side dish of chat potatoes was generous and we couldn’t finish it choosing to order dessert instead.

i opted for the coconut and mango gelato which was in a tub, not sure if it was housemade or not but hubs found it very tasty. i ended up preferring his dish which the peanut butter parfait. this has a really lovely flavour. it was also quite pleasant to visit the sculpture park afterwards. compared to our experience at a different winery yesterday the food was certainly superior here and the venue itself has a really relaxing atmosphere

even on a cold winters day this winery was beautiful! we sat outside and had a glass of the famous moscato and some pizza. all the food was just perfect and we ended it with a piece of cheesecake to share.

we’ve been here multiple times now. seating can be a bit of a hit and miss. when they are super busy, you might be seated in a big table and might have to share table and bench with others.

food had always been consistently good every time we went. their wood fired pizza was absolutely delicious. the butternut squash side with burnt butter was also yum! their menu changes according to the season. last time we were there, they had grilled whole fish and that was just amazing!

only thing i would say to the management is to have waitresses clean the table no matter how busy it gets. to have them clear previous customers’ plates and cutleries but not wipe the table down is just not very pleasant. especially when there are crumbs and leftover food on the table. and then you set the new napkins & clean cutleries on that very table. eeew! every time we dined there, we always had to wipe the table and sometimes seats down with wet wipes!

the view is spectacular. and in all honesty, every time we dined there, we couldn’t fault their dishes.

a great place for a casual feed on a sunny melbournes day. we were lucky to have great weather. the charcuterie board was delicious, wood fire pizza was on point. potatoes were great but also super filling. all in all a great experience
