this modern korean/cajun restaurant run by a caucasian executive chef is a real gem. i've tried about a third of the menu and am amazed at the consistent excellence expressed in their culinary creations. try the wild boar bibimbap, the kimchi pancakes to start. the pouting is an interesting experience although a bit heavy. good with beer. their beer list is really great. the person that put together this list clearly loves beer and understands how it pairs well with their cuisine.

my wife and i were not impressed. we have two small children so we elected to get take out. the deviled eggs had no flavor. they were bland. the food was mostly just overpriced. maybe we needed to pay extra for flavor. 14 dollars for frozen french fries with a couple of pieces of sausage, two hunks of cheese curd, and some flavorless gravy. not what i would consider poutine. my wife fared better with her beef bulgogi, but we've both had better korean food at a handful of other places. we won't be going back to mokomandy.

all in all, a really wonderful experience. mokomandy is nearly an hour from our house. if it were closer i could imagine it becoming our "go to" spot. there are still a lot of things we want to try on the menu - and we will definitely be back

rip-off. mokomandy is pretty far off our beaten path, but my husband and i decided to try it because we got a $10 off coupon in the mail. the scallop blt was really good. the crispy duck was over salty. but the real disappointment was the service. when my husband paid the bill and included our coupon, he didn't notice that next to the $10 off was a smaller 15% off coupon. i knew it was there, but i just assumed the waiter would give us the better deal. not only did he not, but when we asked him to adjust it, he had the nerve to say we were lucky he gave us the 15%, because "promotions are only for customers who make reservations," and said there was nothing he could do because he'd already closed it out. we just got another coupon in the mail, so i read the fine print and it actually says "walk-ins only" so it would they use them to lure people in but don't intend to honor them...

ambiance parallels food. as soon as we walked into mokomandy, we were seated by a cordial waitress (no waiting, no reservations necessary- but you can opt to make reservations online). wine selection was decent, food variety was unique. some amazing choices i'd reccomend- gator croquette, jalepeno hush puppies, oyster poboys, pei mussels, jambalya, and the rum bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle for dessert. the poboys are the cutest and tastiest i have ever had; the hot sauce on the side gives it a kick. the jambalya was sam's favorite dish of the night. the place serves dishes in snack, small, medium, and large portions (much like dim sum/ tasa). so for a party of two, 3-4 medium/small plates should be filling. but mokomandy is not the place to visit if you're looking for a hearty meal. go to enjoy a conversation over delicious korean and creole inventions and superb service. (two waitresses were generous with compliments, and our waiter had a cute sense of humor. new plates were given to us after every dish without us having to request.) the restaurant also has a wonderful ambiance- perfect for a date. the lighting is soft enough to give it the date atmosphere; not so dim that you can't see your food, not too bright that you feel like you're in a fast food place. my boyfriend loved the simple yet elegant and modern decor. mokomandy is opening up another place soon near the dc metro area, which is expected of a charm like this. it is rare that you find such a restaurant in sterling. we definitely recommend if you want a treat! it's a sure bet for a "date-night"!

try mokomandy 's simple gator croquettes, made from tender, mild-flavored louisiana alligator. coarsely ground loins are sautéed in butter, onions, garlic, cajun spices and house-made pecan-smoked bacon. coated in crispy, golden brown panko crumbs, they're served with sauce piquante, made with poblanos, jalapeños, fresh tomatoes, dark roux, and house-made hot sauce. it's safer than alligator hunting. mokomandy 20789 great falls plaza #176 sterling, va 20165 571.313.0505 the loving spoonful features unique, unusual and irresistible dishes that compel you to take a bite.
