funny to see in the local paper the chef/owner charged with a second drink driving offence (12/7/12 hawkes bay today). integrity goes beyond what is put in front of you at the table.
great to see the lack of warmth from prue is noticed by more than myself. these reviews speak volumes. while hawkes bay is starved for entertainment...we don't need to devour this lack lustre restaurant just because we're desperate!

a trendy place for bay people to meet up. the wine list is small but good. dave and prue are true hospo veterans who know what they are doing. they are friendly and train staff well. the food is big. too many carbohydrates though! but pricing is fine. the doughnuts are their trade mark and do not disappoint. it is family friendly and they serve good coffee. i go often when in the bay just to see who is there.

top notch chefs - superb cooks but the manager (the board said prue) really let the experience down. sort of offish, didn't have time for us, just the wrong sort of person for this wonderful restaurant. mr dee you are the best but look at the manager and perhaps if manager is the owner look at getting someone to do that job who is joyful, delightful and makes you really love the place. so 10/10 for the food, ambience, location, decor, building and 0/10 for the manager who seems to have lost heart.

was a little guttered to realise breakfast finished at 11am. so opted for cheese for lunch. had a single serve of the lindis pass brie which was served with some oat crackers and quince paste. complementary ciabatta rolls were also served. hot chocolate was a decent size and came with a house made marshmallow. lovely attentive service.

fabulous and well priced menu promoting local foods and wines.exceptional service from the many staff who are helpful, courteous and and professional.

we visited mister ds on a busy sunday with our 9 month old. the staff were really friendly and accommodating, finding us a table and highchair.
the food was good, but unfortunately it took over an hour to come out - it would have been great if the staff had let us know the wait time on food, there was no communication on this at all.

incredibly good pastries and desserts. the friendly wait staff recommended the tonka bean cream, milk chocolate whisky mousse, poached rhubarb, mint, which was to die for. also the best meringue i’ve ever tasted - fluffy and not overly sweet, blended with interesting textures from the pistachio and crystallized strawberry. fennel crusted lamb croquettes were tasty and not overly oily.

this new spot just up tennyson from marine parade is a welcome addition to the napier dining scene. the restaurant is well lit by a large skylight and has comfortable seating both in and out.

i stopped by for a late morning brekkie and had a coffee and ricotta slice with "drunken" fruit that was both refreshing and delicious.

can't wait to stop in for dinner and try the potato gnocchi with coffee grounds on the bar menu or the other tantalizing mains on the lunch and dinner menu.

welcome to the hawke's bay 'hood'!

wow delicious breakfast! the ricotta and preserved fruit was amazing. each element had it's own distinct clear flavour. i cant wait to have it again. can't wait to try lunch and dinner. and it's by far the tastiest latte in napier! addicted!

food was pretty expensive for what it was. my dish was good quality but very small (single sausage and 1/4 cup of kumara mash for $36) and my partners risotto had a weird taste and texture topped with really overcooked duck

amazing evening at mister d in napier. food out of this world, but not surprising as designed and delivered by david griffiths and prue barton ex vinnies fame and recently from craggy range and black barn in the bay. atmosphere great, staff friendly and welcoming, food and wine to die for.

excellent breakfast experience from beginning to end.  i can't stop thinking about the cheesy eggs!  this is how you run a cafe/restaurant.  very impressed.

eagerly awaited the opening of this trendy new all-day dining spot in napier...
took mum and dad for an impromptu mother's day lunch and prue warmly welcomed us at the door and led us to a spare table, despite a blackboard stating "20 minute wait"... great buzz in the room, wait staff efficient and slick open kitchen... loved the table settings, complimentary bread and olive oil. mr d house white (chardonnay) was delicious and the stoke beer on tap was refreshing.
ordered the braised duck risotto, pulled pork with white polenta and spaghetti with clams and pesto. a real taste treat! mister d is full of personality and we look forward to our next dining experience... well done!
