it must be one of the finest restaurants in this country, we enjoyed our meal there, friendly and real onto it staff. we went early in the day and booked in, the staff couldn't be more helpful if they tried.

while the surroundings and menu were great, i found the service really disappointing. we were dressed quite casually as we had to rush into town last minute and were treated accordingly. seated with no menu, had to ask for one,the specials were never mentioned to us and both wait staff looked like they were sucking lemons.the people seated after us were dressed to the nines and wait staff couldn't do enough for them. as i said the food that came was delicious but i wont go back in a hurry. never judge a book by its cover springs to mind. nobody likes pretentious, snobby waiters.

chose to have lunch here with partner, will not go back. we were seated at an awkward high table at the back even though there were plenty of other tables, stools were uncomfortable and table looked directly into open women's toilet, not very appetising. partner had pulled pork which he said was tasty but small, i had sashimi salad which while beautifully presented was very bland, half the salad had no dressing on at all. service was cold and unwelcoming, service at payment counter was odd and unpleasant. from my experience this restaurant is overpriced and overrated, very disappointing.

super menu, diverse and refreshingly different. e.g yorkshire puddings/marrow/cream entree superb! we dined there two nights out of three and lunch the once. all three experiences were delightful. the staff are genuinely engaging and energetic! yes, its a keeper! keep up the great culinary experience mr d!

wanted to try the much talked about fried cinnamon sugar coated doughnuts so partner and 7 yr old stopped by at 1pm after lunch. we were met at the door by a charming young man who gave us a choice of table and seated us. friendly, professional and kind to my slightly overwhelmed child, we ordered coffees, hot chocolate and a doughnut each (and the 3 different plastic syringe-filled fillings to sample). water was placed at our table and we were quickly served (amazingly fast considering the number of diners present). doughnuts did not disappoint ($5 each). not in the least greasy, served with an abundance of sugar coating, warm and resting atop a paper bag (perhaps some folks dont eat them all in one sitting and opt to take away). fillings ($1 a piece) were great (custard and chocolate our favs)

for something more substanial j and i headed into napier and to mister d, where we sat outside in the courtyard. j had enjoyed a very good duck sausage and lentils here the night before i arrived so he was keen for me to have a look.

four of us went last week for dinner, great looking place, a bit chilly, quite a few people kept winter coats on! staff polite and enthusiastic but for two of us the food was underwhelming. i had the feta and onion tart which was very salty and too oily, while my husband had the fish in a bag and asked for no olives. he didn't get the olives (great) but he also got nothing else with it, so very bland without the lemon etc. we will not rush back for dinner but lunch might be a better option. however, my friend said it was the best pork dish he's had. i also think $45 for the cheapest red wine is expensive.

what a beautiful place, cleanest restaurant ever, all the staff perfect, tidy, polite, well trained and also i've seen some of them speaking other languages to foreign customers, full of class, ambiance is the perfection for the kind of place it is, and the food again, wonderful, bone marrow ravioli?? real home made!! and delicious, after finishing my plate i felt like i wanted to order 10 more to take away, didn't have deserts but they looked really good, thanks for a great night

in for lunch & had a good time. met promptly and when we requested a change of seating it was completed with a smile. our waitress was quick & efficient but was either rushed or couldnt spare the time to speak with us - 'everything was delicious' according to her. had the bone marrow ravioli & the pulled pork & both were very good.
price wise it was up there but i would go back.

i've only really nipped in her for coffees and cakes and have always had a great time. service has been friendly and consistent. other food seems to be a bit patchy for the price. the surrounds are absolutely gorgeous. check out the beautiful courtyard under the shade of the olive tree.

one of the best places to eat in napier. service was excellent and as we had a small dog you can enter the rear courtyard through a side alley.

all the staff were knowledgeable about the dishes and gave good recommendations and could answer any questions about the ingredients used.

our suggestion would be to share the sardines to start if you think it is a dish that you won't like. you will love it. the pasta in my squid ink dish was perfectly cooked.

we will head back when in napier.

attended for a birthday dinner here on friday- the staff were very attentive and coped well with a large dinner party as well as a full restaurant. food was delicious and had good options within the set menu.
would definitely go back, well done dan and the team.

we were fortunate enough to stumble upon this restaurant while on holiday in napier. the coffee is the best i've ever tasted, the service is exceptional even when they are busy and the food is to die for - so good, we went back for lunch the next day. the menu is great - full of delicious things but not necessarily the same old boring fare you get in every cafe. i would strongly recommend the chicken hearts with harissa and the pulled pork salad - amazing.

excellent service and meal. marrow ravioli was delicious, meal just the right size and good value for money, husband had pulled pork which was great also. polenta superb! would definitely return when in napier

one word - fantastic, the bone marrow ravioli is unbelievable and great coffee and service. now the place i will go when in napier, fantastic job.
