mission estate restaurant

queens birthday weekend and our last stop of our self-guided wine tour was the mission. our party of four enjoyed four glasses of beautiful wine and a selection of two desserts and one cheeseboard.

the desserts were fabulous. presentation, portion size and taste, all exquisite. the cheeseboard was perfect. the cheese selection was very good as were the compliments added. the portions were just right, figs, mixed nuts, plum paste and fresh grapes. lavosh and a selection of crackers created a very satisfying spread.

the ambiance was lovely, although it could have been a little warmer in the bar area where we sat.

themissionis a great place for locals and visitors to the area, full of history and beauty.

just down the road from church road winery ismissionestate winery. as mentioned above, hawke's bay is home to new zealand's oldest winery - in 1851, french missionaries sailed to new zealand and planted vines - introducingmissionestate, located in taradale in napier.

since tryingmissionestate's wines last year, i have fallen in love. my favourite wine at the moment?missionestate's 2017 pinot gris. it is a beautiful drop and i highly recommend trying it. 

while we didn't dine atmissionestate's restaurant (having already had lunch at church road winery) or do a wine tasting, we did have a lovely walk around the grounds and various dining areas, plus i purchased some of their beautiful branded glasses - at only $5 each, they were an absolute steal!

we visited napier for one night only from auckland. having never dined out before we relied on online reviews. we foundmissionestate to provide excellent service and outstanding meals, highly recommended for dinner. beautiful heritage building just out of napier. we plan to return during the day so we can view the grounds during day light.

just dined here yesterday for dinner and had pretty good experience. definetly good portion of the food with great quality and presentation of the plates too. me and my partner had starter and main each and we were both full to have desserts. we went for quick dinner here so couldn't wait to digest foods for dessert but will definetly visitmissionagain to have nice meal and dessert.

looked forward to a meal at themissionestate restaurant. the service was as expected, good and prompt. the ambience was great; the main hall had a view through the bay windows looking into the garden and through to the hawks bay in the distance. the table setting finely done. meals came out in time and at good pace. our party of 5 ordered some fresh oven baked bread with hummus, mixed nut dukkah and local hb olive oil with balsamic, which went down a treat... we ordered 4 of the herb crusted lamb kind with lamb neck filled pancake. when in hawkes bay, don't miss the hawkes bay lamb especially at the premier fine dining restaurant in the hawkes bay... one of our party ordered the beef fillet steak. unfortunately, the food was not the highlight of the evening. i found my lamb loin overcooked to being almost well done. i had that sent back only to be served the second dish only slightly less well-done, medium at best... while the filing for the pancake was tasty being slow-cooked lamb neck, the pancake was rubbery and attempts at cutting the pancake saw the filing pusher out of the roll... quite a frustrating and disappointing experience for an establishment with such a reputation and rating.

it's been a while since we visitedmissionestate and today was the perfect hb day to return. hard to beat the atmosphere of this beautiful villa and gardens. dining outside in the sun overlooking the bay. good service. top menu. the meals are in higher price bracket ($28-38 mains) but worth every cent. this is fine dining in a top location. highly recommended, especially when the sun is shining.

the only really minor complaint was the music - pop music does not suit this atmosphere. and then hearing the same song more than once?! we weren't there that long. picky i know :)

really enjoyed our time at themissionestate! we both had the beer battered gurnard-delicious!! as for the garlic bread...the best i've ever had anywhere (and at my age i've eaten out a lot!!) great service, beautiful surroundings and great sav blanc. next time we're in napier we will book a few visits for lunch and dinner.

my staff were excited that we were going to themissionestate restaurant for our christmas lunch. what a wonderful venue, excellent service and scrumptious food.
they work hard for the community in napier and hastings and having a meal at an iconic venue was a fitting way to acknowledge their hard work during 2013. thank you for making us feel 'special'.

my mum, sister & i had lunch today at themissionto celebrate my sister's 50th birthday.
through word of mouth & on line reviews we came with fairly high expectations but unfortunately we were all quite disappointed with our meals. we had three different entrees. presentation was great but the taste was quite disappointing. it just lacked flavour. we tried more seasoning but all the dishes were still unimpressive. we were also disappointed that we were not asked if we enjoyed our meals. we decided to go elsewhere for desserts. definitely not worth the money spent and unfortunately we aren't likely to return.

the presentation was very good and the service we could not complain about.

we were lucky enough to be in napier on boxing day and were able to join friends and enjoy a lunch at the mission.
a beautiful day , daniel, the host set us up at a table under an umbrella, over near the trees, with a great view of the buildings and the wider napier landscape, part of but not too near any other guests. other tables were on the lawn area and under the pergola. a really friendly atmosphere prevailed
and children were most welcome. we enjoyed a 3 course lunch and finished with the fabulous tiramasu.our wine was chosen to compliment the food with daniel's help. alhough it suited our group, the service was a bit sparse between courses. a very pleasant closure to a lovely few days in napier. themissiongets the thumbs up from a couple of country bumpkins who just love dining out.

excellent food, beautiful location and reasonably priced. good staff although a little more attention to clearing the plates would have been appreciated. the tiramisu was the best i had ever eaten. i would definitely recommendmissionestate to others.

had a beautiful lunch here, the steak was one of the best i have ever had! wonderful sitting outside on the verandah, drinkingmissionestate wine, and lucky enough to have a lovely sunny day. my partner had fish which he enjoyed very much. we also shared a delicious apple dessert. a wonderful day.

we have an afternoon at themissionestate everytime we go to napier for a break from the motel.
the setting, atmosphere, service, wine and meals are superb.
"ej" has gone and son "dj" (daniel) has taken over and is carrying on the tradition as the "host with the most".
we look forward to returning again soon.

wow, this place is great. we spent a friends birthday lunch here, and the service was fantastic, the meal great. its always nice to see a good children's menu being available and it was touching to see staff bring out a couple of lovely blankets for two children who were feeling a little chilly. missionstaff really know how to provide great service and how to make everybody feel special. thank you.

love themission... the setting, the food, the service, this place is consistently good, great even. the food is always superb and the service puts nearly every other restaurant in the bay to shame. always take visitors there and have not been disappointed. must also comment on the desk staff however, they do not seem to have received the same training or hired to the same std as the wait staff. a real let down especially since they give the first (and last) impression!
