we dined here for the first time the other night after hearing suchgoodcomments about the food my husband and i were really looking forward to it. we were very underwhelmed. apart from the fact we found a hair in our platter starter the taste was definitely not a reflection of what we paid. we wont be back

i thought the food was prettygoodhere with the exception of the garlic and cheese bread, give that one a miss. chicken wings and calamari agoodentree and i had the eye fillet which was a great piece of meat. the stuffed chicken breast i thought was a really great dish. service was a bit slow as it took over half hour from entree to main but a nice setting so no big deal.

queens birthday weekend and our last stop of our self-guided wine tour was the mission. our party of four enjoyed four glasses of beautiful wine and a selection of two desserts and one cheeseboard.

the desserts were fabulous. presentation, portion size and taste, all exquisite. the cheeseboard was perfect. the cheese selection was verygoodas were the compliments added. the portions were just right, figs, mixed nuts, plum paste and fresh grapes. lavosh and a selection of crackers created a very satisfying spread.

the ambiance was lovely, although it could have been a little warmer in the bar area where we sat.

the mission is a great place for locals and visitors to the area, full of history and beauty.

just dined here yesterday for dinner and had prettygoodexperience. definetlygoodportion of the food with great quality and presentation of the plates too. me and my partner had starter and main each and we were both full to have desserts. we went for quick dinner here so couldn't wait to digest foods for dessert but will definetly visit mission again to have nice meal and dessert.

looked forward to a meal at the mission estate restaurant. the service was as expected,goodand prompt. the ambience was great; the main hall had a view through the bay windows looking into the garden and through to the hawks bay in the distance. the table setting finely done. meals came out in time and atgoodpace. our party of 5 ordered some fresh oven baked bread with hummus, mixed nut dukkah and local hb olive oil with balsamic, which went down a treat... we ordered 4 of the herb crusted lamb kind with lamb neck filled pancake. when in hawkes bay, don't miss the hawkes bay lamb especially at the premier fine dining restaurant in the hawkes bay... one of our party ordered the beef fillet steak. unfortunately, the food was not the highlight of the evening. i found my lamb loin overcooked to being almost well done. i had that sent back only to be served the second dish only slightly less well-done, medium at best... while the filing for the pancake was tasty being slow-cooked lamb neck, the pancake was rubbery and attempts at cutting the pancake saw the filing pusher out of the roll... quite a frustrating and disappointing experience for an establishment with such a reputation and rating.

it's been a while since we visited mission estate and today was the perfect hb day to return. hard to beat the atmosphere of this beautiful villa and gardens. dining outside in the sun overlooking the bay.goodservice. top menu. the meals are in higher price bracket ($28-38 mains) but worth every cent. this is fine dining in a top location. highly recommended, especially when the sun is shining.

the only really minor complaint was the music - pop music does not suit this atmosphere. and then hearing the same song more than once?! we weren't there that long. picky i know :)

we went there for dinner 6 of us. we had a table outside witch was great. the service isgoodthe staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and the wines. the starter wheregoodi believe over generous with the salmon.
the main course where quite disappointing, 3 of us add the lamb witch was cooked nicely but one of the sauces didn't complement this dish.

ordered two entrees and two mains. mostly positive but the fish main was really bland and overcooked and prawn entree was slightly overcooked which is a pity because the sauces were great. beef main wasgoodthough. wouldn't rate an expensive restaurant higher than three if they can't cook their seafood.

we had a very pleasant lunch here on new years day. it is a stunning place to visit, the grounds are lovely and the restaurant is very elegant. sitting out on the lawn under an umbrella is a fabulous place to be on a sunny day. the service is excellent and the menu is to die for. it's very, very hard to chose what to have. i chose the sautéed prawn linguine with chilli, salsa verde and pecorino. the prawns were cooked perfectly, no rubber bullets here. i also have to mention the desserts, which were delicious! i had tiramisu and my partner had the most amazing chocolate parcel. this is my second visit to the mission, the first was equally asgoodand i would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

my mum, sister & i had lunch today at the mission to celebrate my sister's 50th birthday.
through word of mouth & on line reviews we came with fairly high expectations but unfortunately we were all quite disappointed with our meals. we had three different entrees. presentation was great but the taste was quite disappointing. it just lacked flavour. we tried more seasoning but all the dishes were still unimpressive. we were also disappointed that we were not asked if we enjoyed our meals. we decided to go elsewhere for desserts. definitely not worth the money spent and unfortunately we aren't likely to return.

the presentation was verygoodand the service we could not complain about.

excellent food, beautiful location and reasonably priced. goodstaff although a little more attention to clearing the plates would have been appreciated. the tiramisu was the best i had ever eaten. i would definitely recommend mission estate to others.

i have been to been to this lovely restaurant numerous times over recent years and would always have rated it 5 star and the best in hawkes bay bar none. we went there a few weeks ago and although good, my wife and i both thought it had lost its edge. the previously faultless service was still okay but not as sharp and the foodgoodbut lacked the whow factor that we've had in the past.

wow, this place is great. we spent a friends birthday lunch here, and the service was fantastic, the meal great. its always nice to see agoodchildren's menu being available and it was touching to see staff bring out a couple of lovely blankets for two children who were feeling a little chilly. mission staff really know how to provide great service and how to make everybody feel special. thank you.

we booked for lunch on a saturday which turned out to be very busy. we enjoyed our meals but i thought the menu was rather limited although that is more than made up for by the magnificent setting. our wait staff were very pleasant and kept agoodeye on us. i was however rather annoyed by the attitude of the front desk staff. we arrived exactly on time, had to wait some minutes at the front desk even though there were 2 people there not appearing to be dealing with any people at the desk and were eventually bluntly dismissed to couches in the bar area until we could be dealt with. similar problems at the front desk when it came to paying and leaving. left to wait although 2 staff were there, one rifling through a phone book. we waited some minutes before we were taken notice of and when i gave our name as reference were asked for table number which i had no idea of as numbers weren't visible as far as i could tell. eventually got it sorted after indicating where we had been sitting but i really got the impression that the front desk staff could really have done without the inconvenience of us being there. now that we have experienced the wonderful setting i think next time i make a booking i will be choosing from among the many other fabulous restaurants in hawkes bay.
