miss myra's is not good anymore!. i have not been tomissmyra's in a long long time. the food has gone down hill. the pork had no smoke at all. the beef had signs of a smoke ring, but had been so mishandled it wasn't hardly fit to eat. really disappointed in what once was a great bbq place. not anymore.

nothing bizarre about this place.missmyra's was featured on bizarre foods america on the travel channel. the same episode showed people eating the still beating heart of a bullfrog and sauces made from pig's blood--things that deserved to be called bizarre. i have no idea whymissmyra's was featured on a show that highlights weird food. i the host was freaked out by the white bbq sauce, but just because he's ignorant of good bbq sauce doesn't make it bizarre.

anyhow, watching the show had me craving some bbq chicken so i headed tomissmyra's for lunch. they've got an efficient setup. the place was very busy when i was there but there was practically no wait. you order at one counter, pick up your food at another counter, and there's nary a wait in between. they've got this down to a science. the plates come with 2 sides. i got the baked beans and deviled eggs. the deviled eggs were a teensy bit dry but very good. they had a definite homemade taste to them (nothing like the deviled eggs i've regretted buying at the deli at the grocery store). the baked beans were good as well. the real star tho, was the chicken. this was some of the best barbecued (smoked) chicken i have ever had. it was cooked perfectly. juicy inside, crispy skin outside. the white sauce was runnier than i prefer--i like thicker versus thinner--but it was the perfect accompaniment to the chicken. i wish i had been hungrier so i could have got the combo plate. i wanted to try the ribs but that will have to wait for the next visit. i honestly think this is the best bbq i've had in a long time. i hope it wasn't just a fluke.

bbq eaters a must!. i grew up with memphis bbq and this has to be the best bbq in the birmingham area. the meat is always tender. when anyone asked to go eat bbq i tell them screw those other places....i'll meet you amissmyra's!
i don't eat the white sauce but all my friends seem to love it!

they tend to be consistent.missmyra's is one of the most consistently good bbqs in bham.
today was a cold day and we drove by early mid pm.
the half chicken was moist and sides, green beans and slaw were fresh.
in almost 30 years i've only had one dry chicken there.
white sauce is the only way to go for the chicken.
mrs. had a pulled pork sandwich with red sauce and deviled eggs .
service was friendly and good.
all that with two teas and just under $20.00

ms myra's is my favorite and and i've been to them all.. i've been a 'regular' since roundtree days too (late 80s).

they can have their off days, but rare,
i had dry chicken once and that is my usual
. over 26 years + , i can deal with it. deviled eggs and other sides work v. well with main pulled pork, ribs and chicken and white sauce is best available in b'ham. red sauce is only adequate to me but my son loves it.
lemon pipe and ccconut are my old stand bys.

best in birmingham. i have not had saws and i think right now pigg shack in tuscaloosa is the best i have had in alabama butmissmyra's is really good and my wife liked the chicken best. this is better than the chains like jim and nicks, moe's or full moon. the location makes it great if you are at the summit.

the best white sauce. my family and i love the white sauce atmissmyra's. it is 10 times better than big bob gibson's in decatur. they have mastered the recipe to perfection. the bbq and pulled pork bbq are to die for. really good stuff. keep up the good work!

barbeque-tastic. came running back tomissmyra’s pit barbecue after a horrible experience at saws in homewood.missmyra's has been our fall back q joint since their roundtree days. can always count on delicious and reliable bbq. my boy has loved this place since his youth.

we arrived hungry yet composed, knowing exactly what we wanted. we decided to share a half chicken, large chopped pork plate and rib plate, accompanied by baked beans, green beans, coleslaw, deviled eggs and potato salad. we were more than ready when our food arrived.

miss myra’s undoubtedly has the leanest and most succulent pulled/chopped pork in alabama, i defy you to find a bite of fat. their chicken is moist, plump and completely penetrated with smoky flavor. the ribs are huge, bristling with meat and the perfect pull off the bone texture, not to mention fully encrusted with delicious bark. any ofmissmyra’s meats are complimented by their tangy sweet red sauce, but the real star of the show is their legendary white sauce, savor it with the smoked chicken, or the ribs.... or on a napkin, lol. no overcharge on the white sauce, at every table and they will give you the recipe.

the sides atmissmyra’s are straightforward comfort food. the wide, flat-style green beans have a meaty, bacon flavor; the coleslaw is a uniformly diced vinegar slaw. the baked beans are thick, sweet and wonderfully rich (not as good as johnny ray's but good), the potato salad is of the mashed variety as opposed to chunked and in a dressing. the deviled eggs are a tasty bite but nothing special, we make better at home.

miss myra’s is barbecue epitomized, they serve plentiful, delicious food for modest prices in a friendly, bare bones and above all unpretentious environment. the food is consistently made with love, by a family that’s been selling bbq since 1985. come givemissmyra’s a try and you’ll find that it’s not so hard to polish off a rack of their ribs, or at least a bottle of white sauce.

roundtrees. still the leanest pulled pork available in bham. it is an old place with a very old atmosphere, but take out is great and the prices on the family pack are very fair.

i love barbecue, and i decided to trymissmyra's after i read that they have some pretty good barbecue. unfortunately, i was pretty unimpressed. i can understand why some people really like the "homestyle" vibe i got from the food and decoration, but i prefer saw's, dreamland, and moe's original tomissmyra's.

usually good...but. picked up some pork...raved about it to my friends. wow! what a dissapointment. no flavor to the meat (ever heard of salt & pepper?) meat was undercooked...some pieces were downright tough. no smoke flavor. also picked up what i thought was a pint of slaw...got about 2/3 of a pint. quality control lacking on this occasion. next time i'll go to saws in homewood...always consistent. try againmissmyra.

oh how imissyour lemon pie!. if only it would ship fedex up to north carolina. there's not a place up here that even understands what magic that pie is made of. and your barbecue! can i tell you how much imissyour barbecue? north carolina barbecue is nothing like the good alabama recipe. now i'm homesick...

my boyfriend and i went here around 7:30 for dinner. there were no customers there so i expected the southern hospitality that is so closely correlated with alabama's bbq joints. that was absolutely not the case. the staff was rude and they over charged us for our meal. the facility was nasty! the food was pretty good, but no different than any other good bbq.. i've had. my final decision onmissmyra's bbq is that i will not return. my suggestion, to any one who feels they must trymissmyra's is that you get the food to go.

pretty good.missmyra's is a popular local choice. the bbq is very soft, tender and delicious and you have your choice of sauce on the table. do be warned the menu is limited, especially when it comes to sides. this is the only bbq place i've been to that doesn't offer french fries.

myra's is somewhat over-rated but certainly good.

buns.missmyra's is a reliable stand by- but they must stop serving sandwiches on the stale buns. everytime i have picked up a sandwich in the past few months, the bun falls apart and you are left wtih a mess to eat with a fork. impossible to pick up. maybe they are getting a deal from the bun company to buy old buns.
