fell short. first time customer and last time customer too. i'd like to consider myself a person that enjoys food for flavor and never to just fill my stomach. that being said i went into this very excited about the possibilities of the food ahead. from walking in it felt like a place that was a bit in need of a makeover. however decor ultimately is never my main concern but more so the food placed before me. we started our night off with the cornmeal crusted oysters dish, which wasn't all that bad but certainly did not have that rich oyster flavor you look for in a fried oyster. could of been one of many things under all the sauce and chutney. from there we tried the sautèed calamari, the yuzu sake butter broth the sliced rings were in was by far the best part of the dish and probably the most flavor aspect of the entire night. the biggest problem with this dish was that some of the calamari was pretty tough and chewy. for entrees we went with the korean barbeque spice rubbed grilled filet of beef tenderloin, braised short rib dumpling, celery root ramp pear kimchi, mushroom peanut fried bamboo rice, miso mustard vinaigrette, yuzu soy star anise barbeque . . . and the coffee mole chile crusted tuna, rock shrimp yucca corn sofrito ragout, tamarind vanilla rum glazed plantains, caramelized pineapple habanero vinaigrette. sounds pretty amazing! both dishes read extremely well but neither followed through on taste or presentation. both of these dishes were very underseasoned and very bland. the dishes looked and tasted like something you would expect to get at a wedding reception dinner. everything on the tuna plate had the same texture to it and all the same color. this dish was by far the most disappointing of the entire night. the filet dish was a little better overall but still had major issues. like several bites had gristle throughout and the meat was not very tender. i really hate to complain and this is my first review i've ever written online, but i really felt compelled to share my experience. at the end of the day you expect an elevated dish when you spend the type of money an establishment like this garners. i work very hard for my money and it sucks to throw it away on food that leaves you so unsatisfied. i hope this helps you make your decision on if this place is worth the risk on your wallet. i love great food and there was nothing great about the food i ate atmiseen place.

not up to par. my husband and i recently visitedmiseen place to celebrate our anniversary. we had a gift certificate from my son and decided to use it for this special occasion. the food, overall, was pretentious but ineffective. my oyster starter consisted of three battered, lukewarm, grossly oversauced oysters. the flavor of the oysters was totally obscured by the oversweet garnish. the crab salad was woefully lacking in crab and the dressing was bland, needing salt and vinegar. my husband had the calamari, which consisted of 1/2 inch wide calamari rings floating in some kind of strangely sweet broth. he gave me one to taste and it had the texture of a rubber band. i had to remove the piece from my mouth, since i couldn't chew it. my husband, bless him, soldiered bravely on. the rack of lamb entrée had a bitter taste (the tea crust?) and the accompanying yuca was buttery but lumpy. i sent the entrée back due to the cold onion rings. . . the dessert, crème brulee, was adequate but small, with a black ring around the bottom of the ramequin. i can only hope that the ring was composed of vanilla bean seeds . . . the strawberry "soup" was grainy and weak in flavor. the service was attentive at first and then dwindelled to minimal. my husband had the "kobe" beef steak and was presented with a 1/2" thick, small, non-remarkable piece of beef. even with the billing as kobe, it felt like a rip-off. after a dinner of $150 (gift certificate) plus $40 of our own money, we were not satisfied. i have eaten at the french laundry, la espadrille, rick bayless' topolobampo, and many other fine restaurants. this is a restaurant that has undeserved delusions of grandeur.

horrible experience :(. after hearing some of the hype on the food frommiseen place i wanted to love it but instead was left with major disappointment.

i was taken to dine here for my birthday, we had a reservation and we arrived on time. after 30 minutes of waiting we got a table and our waitress seemed upset and not very friendly. our drinks took 15 mins to arrive and i told her we were ready to order but she left anyway and said she would be right back.

after another 15 mins passed and i had had enough and so had everybody else. we all got up to leave and on our way out we saw our waitress. i told her we were leaving and she was indifferent and was annoyed that i had interrupted her conversation with her colleague to tell her this. i'm so sorry to have inconvenienced you.

mise en place, please take some notes from roy's hawaiian or the melting pot on how to treat your customers the right way, especially on their birthday.

amazing food and service!. my husband and i dined here on friday night. we sat at a high top in the bar and ordered a variety of first and second courses. the lobster mac and cheese was to die for, and our server/bartender, nate, was the best! he went out of his way to accommodate our requests and ensured we had a great experience. i am never disappointed bymiseen place. the good and service are second to none!

phenomenal. my husband and i ate here a month ago and i cannot stop thinking about every morsel. from the wine selections to the ceviche, the red snapper to the chocolate bengiets and goat cheese cheesecake.miseis pricey but worth every penny for a true palate treat. we have been french and fine food adventurers in florida, and so farmiseblows all other places out of the water.

go-to fine dining destination. i have gone tomiseen place many times over the years, and have loved it every time. it's fine dining at its best if you know what to look for. well executed, thoughtful dishes with portions just large enough for a taste (except the entree's, these are more traditionally sized). the service has always been exceptional with multiple waiters who are knowledgeable about the wine menu and how the dishes are prepared. if you are looking for an exceptional meal and are tired of steak's from bern's, go tomiseen place!

i've dined atmiseen place many times over the years. it's absolutely divine...the perfect place to celebrate life! if you haven't had the opportunity to experience this epicurean adventure of the senses, it's a must for foodies. since it's inception in 1986,miseen place has garnered a well earned reputation for gastronomical modern american cuisine. the menu which changes weekly is masterfully created by culinary genius, marty blitz. under his direction, guests dine on edible works of art that explode with flavor. the night of the party my taste buds danced with glee as i savored roasted butte

a must-go place. i've always been impressed withmiseen place. considering the many awards and years of operation demonstrates their level of success (it's not just magic or sheer luck). anyone i've engaged in conversation with about the food, service, etc. has agreed, it's top notch. sometimes my wife & i resist dining at new restaurants because we knowmisewill never disappoint, it's consistently delectable and superb; sophisticated without being pretentious. also- a great place to impress guests from out of town, business meetings or special occasion.
i couldn't resist leaving a review after our noteworthy experience last week.

excellent!. there is really nothing i could say that can add to what the reviews have already said. this place brings food to an art form, creating flavor combination that are not only delicious but make you truly think. the calamari was particularly spectacular in its seemingly simplistic but amazing sauce. its quite possibly the best calamari i have ever had.miseen place is truly a jewel of tampa and you would be remiss to overlook it.

i wonder why i don't go here more often. perhaps its the random location or the fact that it's been around for years. the fact is thatmiseen place is still one of the best restaurants in tampa bay, if not florida. inventive, fresh, perfectly executed food. have never had one bad dish there--and suspect i never will.

best restaurant in tampa. if you are a true foodie and know your stuff, you should already have dined atmiseen place. the decor is subtle, which i actually like, because it made the food the focus of the night, unlike some places in tampa that are all about the image and not what's on the plate. the drinks have a definite new orleans flair, and the wine list is extensive and has a nice balance between moderate to expensive wines. now, the food- wow! the chef puts a unique spin on textures and flavors and creates an exquisite dining experience in the "get blitzed" tasting menu. the chef also shows his innovative and playful side with dishes like foie gras in a curry passionfruit essence with deliciously sauteed lentils or the hamachi crudo, which lends itself well to the crisp coconut and yuzu soy vinaigrette that accompanies it. as for the service, our server, heath, was absolutely amazing in attentiveness and menu knowledge. the sommelier even came over to speak to us becuase we were so blown away at his wine pairings with the tasting menu. one word describesmiseen place - phenomenal!

fantabulous!. took a gentleman from nyc tomiseand he was so very impressed. i "blitzed" and the snake river farms grilled pork loin was superb. take the additional cheese course as the piave classico, stilton, peach lavender conserve and 8 year old balsmic were perfectly paired with the 10 year old tawny port. chef david kerr treated us to a sunchoke soup and wild mushroom appetizer that is beyond scrumptious.

great chef, great restaurant. i've been coming tomiseen place for many years, for me it is the most creative, interesting menu in tampa. marty, the chef and owner, showcases his culinary talents daily. i've never had a meal there that wasn't a great dining experience. i highly recommendmiseen place.

superb. i've been tomiseen place with friends on two occasions. the meals were each extraordinary in their own ways. i'm not sure why folks in the local area haven't rated it more highly. my bet is that if you were trying to find a comparable meal in seattle, new york, los angeles, paris or london, you'd have to be at a michelin 3-star. i say this because every dish was divine. when i think my last meal there, i can almost taste it from start to finish: a simple wild onion salad drizzled with a light champagne vinaigrette dressing and finished with pomegranate seeds, the stewed boar's meat ragu over chewy, al dente pappardelle, the fresh organic strawberries with homemade whipped cream. mmm. i'll be back atmiseen place very, very soon.
