minis bakehouse has to be one of my all time favourite spots in edinburgh.
amazing cakes, brilliant decor/atmosphere and just generally agreatplace for a slice (or 5) of cake and goodies.

*we got there around 2 but had to wait 30minutes on a table... it wasn't a problem as they were super busy and it sunny outside but i do suggest booking even if it is just cake and tea.

*we got 2 slices of victoria sponge, a snickers brownie and a raspberry meringue bar to share among four and it was plenty...

*the snickers brownie was moist, not too chocolatey and with just the right amount of peanut butter flavour - 10/10

*the raspberry meringue slice was okay, a little bit too sweet though but the idea was good - 4/10

*the victoria sponge slice.... omg... is all we had to say!! the classic really was the best with a lovely, crumbly soft sponge with melting in your mouth buttercream and a tasty berry curd layer through the centre. - 12/10

*the service was a little slow to begin with as you have to order the cakes from the counter by yourself but i suppose it does work.
we got a few slices of cheesecake to take away.

*our only criticism was once we had finished our cakes, we seen them bring out even more goodies that weren't there before but i suppose that can't be helped, they have to replenish their stock all the time.

amazing place and i will definitely be going back for more cake and to try the menu out myself.

first time here. it's always busy so finally i am checking the place out. ordered cheese cake and latte. the cheesecake looksgreatwith a 4.70 pound price tag, but it is just a bit too sweet for me. other than that, i love the deco of the place.

i have been to mimi’s a few times but this was a purposeful visit to try the before noon tea (like afternoon tea but with more breakfast items). i was really looking forward to this as i already know they do a mean french toast for breakfast and their cakes are out of this world.

the food comes on a cake stand and diners are offered a selection of teas. my friends went for tea but as someone who does not drink tea or coffee, i opted for a fruit juice. the cake stand consisted of lots (and i mean lots) of tasty treats. to start, we had small bacon rolls, with a choice of sauces. there was a generous portion of these, enough for two rolls each. the bacon hasgreatflavour and it was an excellent start. we then moved onto their award winning cheese scones with a cream cheese and chive spread. the scones were of the mini variety and again we had two each. they were warm and soft – no doughy texture here. the cheese flavour was delicious and moreish. the spread was nice and light, which was a good thing as we still had plenty of other things to sample. we then moved onto the granola. there was a nice mix of seeds within the granola and the fruit was sweet without being sickly. it provided a nice transition from the savoury elements to the more sweet parts. next we tucked into the cinnamon rolls which had the perfect balance of cinnamon and sweet topping. our penultimate item was a mini pancake stack dusted generously with icing sugar. this seemed a little dry and might have worked better with a compote type filling to moisten the stack rather than the sticky dulce de leche filling. lastly, the mini toffee muffin was a good bite sized treat to finish off with and disappeared in a couple of mouthfuls. it had a lovely depth of toffee flavour with a surprising toffee crunch on top.

overall, the before noon tea was a delight. surprisingly i enjoyed the savoury items more than the sweet but this is certainly this is an experience everyone should spoil themselves with.

mimi’s bakehouse is a fantastic place for brunch, lunch and afternoon tea. it has fantastic home baking and lots of choices on all of their menus.

their afternoon tea is splendid and very affordable at about £14.50 per person. you get a selection of sandwiches including egg and chive, gammon and smoked salmon but if you don’t like one of the fillings they will be happy to swap it for you. it also comes with a selection of cakes and fresh scones. you can also choose which kind of tea you would like to have with you delicious treats.

for brunch my favourite brunch is french toast with banana and salted caramel – this is delicious and very sweet! it’s also very reasonable at about £7.

i love this place and withgreatprices and friendly staff i’ll definitely be back.

i went to mimi's bakehouse for several tea times and cakes. the place is really cosy and it's a place where you want to go with your friends and family. you will always feel good. the design of the place is really original with sugary colours.
- the cakes i have tried so far were all delicious and i have to say that my favourite is the oreo cake.
- tea times aregreatand huge! but the good thing is that you don't have to prepare diner afterward and if you have to much cakes and sandwiches, you can ask to take them home. the regular teatime is alwaysgreatbut i was a little disappointed by the christmas tea time which was more expensive (£17,5 for the christmas/£14,5 for the classic) and some of the items were not up to what they usually do.
- they offer all kind of coffees and teas. i am a tea drinker and i appreciate that they offer tea pig teas.
overall agreatexperience! don't forget to book your table if you want to try their cakes during the weekend!

we visited mimi's for a couple of cakes to take home, whilst waiting for the cakes to be boxed up i took a little look around, every little detail in the café was perfect, mimi had clearly put agreatdeal of thought into the look and feel of the place. there were also a few non edible items for sale, these would no doubt make perfect gifts for any baking enthusiast. even the box for our cakes was cool, a really unusual design that tied in nicely with the cafe’s decor.

after what seemed like a lifetime to get home and tuck in we found that there was a slight mix up with our order, whilst the cheesecake was present we’d been given the wrong chocolate cake (no red velvet with white chocolate frosting, just plain milk chocolate). this was disappointing as we had made it clear which chocolate cake we wanted when ordering, we got over this mild frustration soon after our first taste of the cheesecake…

it was amazing, so smooth, not too rich and a buttery biscuit base that would satisfy even gregg wallace. whilst the chocolate cake was tasty and incredibly moist it just couldn’t live up to the standard of the cheesecake. i’ve eaten my fair share cheesecakes in my time and can say without a doubt that this is the best.

at first the price seemed a bit steep, it was around £8 for the two slices, however the portions were very generously sized.

mimi’s motto is “it’s all about the cake!” and with cake this good you don’t need anything else.

it's all about mimi's. i live very near mimi's i've decided to update my surly review from january 2011. i've been back to mimi's many times and have found them incredibly friendly, the service excellent and the food, coffee and cakes of a very high standard. they care about food and their customers. as for some of the snarly reviews on here - nobody is making you visit mimi's - if you want french patisserie, get to france! as far as the pushchair army are concerned, can i suggest that while you are in france, you observe how children behave in cafes and restaurants - with decorum under parental supervision! stop thinking of your little rug rats as critters who should be pandered to - think of other customers, health and safety and a family who - in the midst of the worst recession - saw an opportunity, ran with it, provide an excellent local amenity and in many ways have helped to revitalise the shore in leith. i would now recommend mimi's as my no.1 destination of choice in leith. keep up the good work guys and get some bacon and french toast with maple syrup grooving...i'm on my way...again! x

great place, terrible service. i've really been looking forward to visiting mimi's and finally found the time today after a busy week. understandably, given it'sgreatcakes, location and interior it was stowed out.

i stood for several minutes waiting for someone to greet me when i came in and eventually went over to the servery and asked if i was supposed to just sit at a table, but i was told very abruptly not to by a surly member of staf who walked off leaving me standing.

i was then left for several more minutes until i was so pissed off i left. the staff could clearly see me waiting and throughout there was a table for two with a reserved notice, which i could easily have been placed at, even if it was just to wait until another table was clear.

probably the best cafe in leith. it would be a shame to ruin it with very bad service.

a slice of heaven. full review on www.edinburghspotlight.com

their flyer says "open for scrumptious cakes, heavenly breakfasts, freshly ground coffees, lavish lnches and awe-inspiring afternoon tea" which pretty much sums this place up.
before entering, i thought it would be a cake-based cafe, but it's so much more than that. you have to walk past a glass-stand full of cakes before you take a seat, but then there's the cakes at the counter that simply scream "eat me" as you sit down.
having already eaten lunch before popping in, i only had room for tea and cake this visit. had i known that i could have picked some luxury homemade stovies (£7.95) or mimi's marvellous hotpot (£8.95) i would have eaten here.
we took a seat at the rear of the cafe on the luxurious couch and kick backed with the (free) papers and awaited our orders..
i opted for lemongrass tea, £1.95 (they do numerous choices of teapigs tea here) and my partner chose a flat white, also £1.95. the stars of mimi's are no doubt the cakes, which are all lovingly made on the premises.
i chose a fruit scone with homemade preserve, butter and clotted cream, £1.95 and my friend chose a slab of strawberry pie and cream, £3.95.
my scone was warmed in the oven (not the microwave) and the strawberry pie was also served warm with the cream on the side. there was no other option but to dive in and the pie was nothing short of heavenly with pastry perfection. the scone had been perfectly baked, just like my granny used to make.
a lot of thought has gone into this place, from the cute utensil decorations on the walls to the personalised crockery. run by a family (mum, dad, kids and extended family who work there) mimi's has hit the nail on the head as agreatcafe.
