old schoolfamilydining. stopped in here for the first time in years... nothing has changed... thankfully! huge portions of really really good home cookin'. the lower boone's ferry benedict starts with a base of tender biscuits.. topped with a hand formed breakfast sausage pattie that covered both biscuits and then some... scrambled eggs and then drown the whole thing in country gravy. accompanied by a huge portion of grilled red potato's and onion. i'm a big boy... 6'6" and i can eat son. i finished exactly half of this monster breakfast!
my sainted mother had the french dip which did not stoop to the usual deli sliced meat... oh no buddy, it was loaded with shredded pot roast! excellent flavorful real deal beef! she was very impressed! and... i have the other half in my fridge for my dinner.
my dear father went for the 1/2 turkey sandwich on rye with a cup of homemade, chock full of veggies and beef soup. he didn't have much to say besides... mmmmmmmm...mmmmmmmmmmmm.... then the toppper... his lunch came with a slice of pie. he went for the lemon meringue, his favorite. all i can say is wow. it was way way above average! and the crust was darn near as good as my granny made. light and flaky, filled with tart/sweet lemon... awesome.
it sure as heck won't be years before we go back. the halibut fish and chips looked fabulous and i do love me some halibut dunked in screaming hot oil!
there is a lot to like about this place... and today anyway, not one single thing to nitpick.

absolutely love this place. great very authentic homestyle food. i highly suggest the fried chicken or the chicken fried steak. but really everything is good. kids eat free on monday night. and they are very family-friendly. i couldn't be happier with the pricing too. if you're looking for a very casualfamilystyle home-cooked meal, this is the place.

dingy................. we were in this place on monday. i thought it was a localfamilyrestaurant that served good
home style cooking. i think it's more of a breakfast place. my food was overly salty. didn't have
time to change order, so we left. but, i noticed my surroundings. the place needs to be cleaned
up, especially the green rug. it also just need a sprucing up in general. i just may give it another
chance someday. i'll try a breakfast next time!

never again. we had to wait for at least 15 minutes to get anyone's attention after we were seated. asked the mgr what the soups and pies were - he said he didn't know. no mention of finding out for us. eventually the waitress showed up to take our order. the turkey dinner was so extremely salty that it was barely edible. the asparagus had the bottom part of the stalk left on and was not edible because it was too hard and is not meant to be eaten. also was very salty. when paying, the manager (mexican fellow) asked how the food was and i told him not good and extremely salty. he never apologized and, in fact, did not even respond. and very tricky that the waitress asked if my dad wanted cheese on his omelette but forgot to mention that it cost extra!! absolutely lacking in customer service and cooking abilities at this restaurant. i might add also that myfamilyand i have been going to this restaurant for at least ten years. it has drastically slipped in every way and we will not be going back.
