3 strikes - never ever going back.. i had been to mike anderson's before the fire and remodel and had bad oysters on 2 different occasions (2 strikes). after they reopened, i decided to give them another try. my boyfriend got the charbrolied fish of the day... it came with some sauce over it (we think it was made with rancid canned mushrooms) that left an aweful taste in our mouths. it was disgusting. i got the steamed seafood and veggies. it was basically some tiny shrimp, crab claws and crawfish tails with crab boil seafood seasoning and some bland, poorly cooked veggies. it tasted slightly better than it looked - i didn't want to eat it when i first saw it. i could have made a meal 20x better at home for the money i paid for this lousy meal. the only good thing about the place was the baked sweet potato fries and the remodel looked really nice (the outside area is great); it's a shame the food is so terrible. also, when we were paying for our meal we saw some tables next to us with boiled crawfish. my boyfriend and i both would have ordered that over what we chose off the menu had our server told us that was an option. when we asked her she said she didn't even know they had crawfish that day. i'm still kicking myself for actually paying for that food.

disappointed!. i don't what has happened to this restaurant. my husband and i were traveling through baton rouge and i had been telling him about how wonderful mike andersons was. i have many fond memories of eating there with business associates and always have had excellent service and the food was never a disappointment. however, today was not the case. we arrived middle of afternoon, restaurant was not busy. we were quickly seated and waitress was prompt. we order an appetizer and two entrees with salads. we waited about ten minutes and our entrees were delivered, along with our salads. we had not gotten our appetizer and was trying to tell our waitress, noelle, to forget the appetizer but a young waiter delivered the appetizer at that point. noelle acted like she did not know what to do and quickly left the table. did not ask if we needed any drinks or if we wanted any condiments to go with our meal. we both noticed the appetizer was served cold as well as our entrees. i waited for our waitress to return to see if we needed any condiments to go with our entrees, not the case. we had to flag down another waiter to ask him to tell our waitress we needed some assistance. as i said this has always been one of my favorite restaurants in louisiana, but today will be the last time i visit any mike anderson restaurant. sorry, but the food and the service was not worth the $100 we spent on what we were thinking would be a meal worth paying that price for. cold food, bad service, and waitress that didn't even seemed concerned that a customer was not happy! sad to say, but this restaurant is no longer on my list of great louisiana restaurants! it was that disappointing today!

good but expensive. i dislike their fried seafood. i would recommend their broiled and baked seafood entrees. if you order enough different entrees from here, you'll notice that they stuff everything with crab meat. this isn't necessarily a bad thing just something i felt was noteworthy.

inconsistent food quality. rolling the dice on each visit. indicates poor management. baton rouge location as well as gonzales. service gets a little better rating in my opinion.

great tasting food with large portions. would've given 5.0 if shorter wait for seating. but, food was well worth the wait.
will definitely revisit.

very good, huge portions. best items were oysters bienville, crawfish étouffée, crabmeat au gratin and the seafood gumbo. dessert was creme brûlée, excellent marks. fast and friendly staff, very helpful with menu suggestions.

good but need a lunch menu on weekends. the crab 7 ways and broiled seafood platter are too much food for a lunch offering. also, the spice level, garlic i think, was too high on many of the dishes on each plate for us. those things being said, the overall meal was good just too much for the time slot.

fried crab fingers were cooked nicely and crunchy out, soft in. nothing on the two dinners was bad but a couple of them lacked severely in plate appeal. looked like clumps of goo on the platter. loved the pepper jam dressing on my salad too.
crabmeat cocktail was mostly claw meat but tasty. they were out of canebreak on the day we dined as well.

i would give it:

ambience: 3 out of 5
service: 4 out of 5
food: 3.5 out of 5

overall 3.5 out of 5 and does warrant a dinner time trip back in.

before traveling to louisiana, i had two people highly recommend mike anderson’s. it is located in baton rouge, la. we were visiting baton rouge for a couple of days while on a business trip. i am so thrilled mike anderson’s restaurant was recommended to us. it was one of the best seafood restaurants i have ever tried. check out their amazing menu. mike anderson’s has been around 35 years that tells me they can cook. when mike anderson started his restaurant, he knew he want his customers to get their money’s worth. he wanted everyone to leave the restaurant full, have leftovers, and receive great service. my family and i experience all of this. we truly enjoyed our visit to mike anderson’s restaurant in baton rouge, la.

the nerve of them!. i ordered a $32 tbone steak. the menu said well done meant no pink. after recieving my steak eager for the experience because i've heard so much about the restaurant i started cuting the edges first thats the best part to me. i looked down and the steak was rare. i waited another 10 minfor the waiter to come back so that he can take it back to the kitchen. when he came he took the steak back saying they will cook u a new one and this is what the manager of the restaurant came back with. then she had "the nerve" to ask did i want a fresh potato to go with my steak

meh.... this place is highly over-rated. i honestly don't know why its still so popular. the prices are fairly high and the food is mediocre at best. i can think of atleast a dozen other seafood/southern places i'd rather go in br than here.

eh... after all these years i now know why i only eat here with my parents. they love the place. i think it is one of the most overrated restaurants in the state. my wife and i dine out quite frequently and this place never comes to mind. if i want the best gumbo in town i can go to 5 other places before i'd try it here again. some of the dishes they've concocted leave me puzzled. i will say that the margaritas are tasty as well as the hushpuppies.

not impressed. this was my first time back to mike anderson's on lee drive since the fire, and to my extreme disappointment, i was not impressed. while the renovations look very nice, the food left much to be desired. i ordered fried catfish filets and french fries. the catfish filets where unbelievably small, about the size of my finger in diameter, and i was only given four --- and this was the entree. in addition, they were difficult to cut. thank goodness for the french fries and the hush puppy. if i were more of a complainer, i should have sent these filets back to the kitchen. as a result of this disappointing experience, i will not be going back. it appears that they're making up for the costs of the renovations by cutting down significantly on the quality of the product. this is very unfortunate. i used to love this place.
