booked a reservation for saturday dinner via eatigo and enjoyed 40% discount, but realized i should’ve enjoyed the same discount at a different restaurant.

just like other restaurants that offer buffet, midascafehas different stations - drinks, breads, viand, desserts, grilling station, and a japanese station.

just like other hotel restaurants that offer buffet, the choices are limited.

i don’t have a problem with limited choices in buffets if the taste is great. yes, this restaurant has disappointed us. my mom asked for sinigang with salmon head and she was given a “malansang” salmon. my boyfriend’s choices of grilled skewers were changed when they arrived. the taste of their dishes are just bland.

i had high expectations because of the rating and reviews in eatigo. i hope midascafewill improve their food quality so others can enjoy what they paid for. if you have extra money to burn, try it here and let me know what you think; otherwise, use your discount at another place.

i’ve to give credit to their staff - they’re friendly and approachable. sadly, it’s the food that has the biggest impact to foodies.

modern interiors, freshest foods and the yummiest desserts.

💕date for two: lunch buffet
💌total: p2088
overall: for our anniversary, we tried this buffet at midas cafe, a meticulously designed restaurant at midas hotel and casino.

we booked our date via eatigo and picked a time that offers 50% the total bill. our time booked is 11:30 am. we arrived at the hotel a bit earlier, around 11 am, so we still got the chance to roam around. once we’ve entered the restaurant, we were directed to this part and seated beside the window. since the foods are not yet ready, we had a quick tour of the resto.

yey for unlimited beer and wine! we didn’t avail this since we still have a long day to go but seeing the choices of wine they have, it sure is worth the five hundred.

love this colorful play area for kids! though we didn’t see any kids that time utilizing this, we’re pretty sure this one’s a good distraction for the little kiddos while mommy and daddy are getting some good foods.

holiday vibe is in the air! colorful ginger bread towers and houses are all over the place for your eyes only – not for consumption, of course. haha.

bread station– set up looks simple. choices are not that much though people are skipping this part to avoid carbo loading and filling up their tummies so fast.

salad station– diy and ready-made salads are available at this station. basic dressings and veggies are here to kick start the buffet journey.

cheese station– not the grandest cheese station but it’s a sure way to warm up the palate. pair it with dried fruits and you’re good to go.

some of their cold cuts and apetizers. we love the one with the salmon! so creamy and tasty!
salami cone, bruschetta – the salami paired with olive is one great combination. bruschetta is good too, the cheese on top is perf!

bacon wrapped pickles– haven’t tried this one because of the pickles. haha. how we wish the inside is either asparagus or enoki mushroom instead.

salmon cream cheese roll– the star of all apetizers, it’s just so yummy! came back for this for several rounds. haha. the nori wrap is astoundingly good and the pesto sauce is the perfect match.
nachos and fries– we actually don’t have any plan to get any nachos or fries as these will stuff us faster. but upon seeing the cheesy fondue, we changed our minds in a heartbeat. lol. the cheese is not that thick though, but it’s still okay.

kaktugi and mat kimchi– tried only the classic mat kimchi. it’s fine but the cheap ones on korean restos are better.

sushi station – a bit sad for the little variety of sushis and maki. was expecting tamago too! huhu. anyhow, it’s a good thing they have salmon. it made our day better.

assorted maki – this is labeled as assorted but seeing from here, we can identify these as pure california makis covered in different types of roes. not sure though, corrections are very much welcome.

sake sushi – the gem of the station. we’re wondering there isn’t salmon sashimi since they have this. nevertheless, we still enjoyed this and kept coming back multiple times. haha. towards our ‘full tummy’ state, we even cheated and just ate the salmon and just let go of the rice. hihi.

carving station– so there’s this whole slab of rib that gets everyone’s attention. there are two sauces available, mushroom and red wine sauce. you may also opt to have it garnished with pommery and horseradish. hashbrown on the side is also available for a perfect pairing with the steak.

roasted prime rib – slices are done per request. the station chef is right there all the time to assist anyone who wishes a slice or two.

grill station– fresh beef, pork, chicken and sea foods are all for cooking! not by the customers though, but by their chefs. they have a vast choices on how you want your meats to be cooked. from grilled to stewed to baked, they have it. colorful kebabs! we tried this all and the beef stood out. the sticks displayed might seem a little less than it should but we have to compliment how fast they refill each plate.

salmon head and belly; and mussels. look at those! the freshest catch we’ve seen 🙂 some veggies for cooking too. add your desired veggies on your meat plate and go to the cooking area. the line may tend to go longer at this station. and be prepared to wait for much longer for the finished product.

we got our cooked food around 15 minutes after we got it lined up at the cooking station. we had the kebabs and pork belly grilled. then for the mussels, we had it baked with cheese and garlic. for the salmon and shrimp, we had it cooked as seafood sinigang. the broth is yummmmm!

drinks station– iced teas in different flavors, with your choice of toppings. they also have coffee and other juices on the side.

crepe station– fruits, nuts and chocolates are the heart of this station. an accommodating chef will prepare your customized crepe, just choose what’s inside, toppings and ice cream flavor, if you want it a la mode. our pick – chocolate chip crepe with cookies and cream ice cream and pistachio toppings. this is looooooveee!!

midascafemight not have the most choices of foods and number of stations but it’s a good place when you just want a peaceful buffet. there’s no pressure on eating as the resto is not crowded at all and the spaces for each table is good enough to enjoy privacy. thiscafeis a perfect example of quality over quantity type of buffet 🙂

value for money: since we didn’t pay for the full price, it’s worth it! we booked via eatigo and selected a time and date that offers 50% off the total bill. you may sign up here and book your date, too!

a sweet treat, from us and eatigo, when you sign up and book using our link or referral code: datefortwo, get a p150 gift certificate of your choice from one of eatigo’s restaurant-partners! so you’ll get this gc on top of the 50% discount. this one’s a steal!

got the drink of the month, the mango and mint cha-cha. it is mango puree with mint leaves and sprite. tastes quite refreshing. but at p255++, quite expensive for what it is.

saw that there wasn’t anyone in the restaurant so decided to go to midascafeto have a quiet time to read in between the restaurant’s buffet operations. not a great idea. the music is upbeat and quite loud. couch seats were not comfortable if you tend to sit up so that you’re in a sitting position conducive for dining. can’t stay in there for too long.

midascafehas been awarded by philippine tatler as one of the best restaurants in the country not just once but four times. who could say "no" when you got an invite from zomato philippines for a foodie meet up in midas cafe? not me.

located at the second level of midas hotel and casino along roxas boulevard, midascafeboast a very cool and classy ambiance. hotel elegance carried over to thecafecomplimenting the whole dining experience. the restaurant implements smart casual dress code for its diners adding more sophisticated atmosphere. no smoking rule is implemented inside the restaurant but there's a designated area for those who love to smoke after a big meal.

i think midas lunch buffet is perfect if your looking for high quality food and five star service without being overwhelmed with a thousand options.

with the increasing number of all you can eat joints in the metro, it appears like they're battling it out through quantity rather than quality. that isn't the case in this hotel restaurant. they have great bite-sized appetizers, a japanese station with decent rolls and sashimi selections, grill station, pasta station, noodle station, mongolian station, and of course bread and dessert stations. the dessert station is overflowing with cakes, cookies, churros, and frozen delights, plus a crepe station. though i think they need to leave the crepes on for a bit longer as they were a bit undercooked for me.

if money is no object, midascafeis a great place to enjoy an exquisite lunch buffet of great, beautifully set up food; fine, comfortable ambience and attentive staff.

i was privileged enough to be invited by zomato for a lunch buffet at midas hotel & casino, my first foodie meetup at a hotel buffet. midascafefirst opened its doors in june 2011. it’s in a different level from sofitel’s spirals and edsa shangri-la’s heat, but midascafecan be decent. the lunch buffet can cost up to php 2,000 per head, so some people can find that the quality doesn’t match the price, but there are deal grocer vouchers available from time to time at php 950 per head.

i am in love with buffets, and midascafeis no exception. i feel that the place is perfect for sunday family lunch bonding time, as the ambiance is light and easy on the eyes. as for the food, you'll soon get why they are priced quite high.. it's because of the truly authentic japanese and asian food varieties that they have, and that desserts and carving station that is so worth the splurge.

let me mention first that they do have a lot of cuisines and stations to offer, from appetizers, to mongolian, chinese, noodles station, pasta station, breads and cheeses, and a lot more!

my favorite dishes are the beef prime ribs from the carving station. the taste of this is quite awesome, as it is well seasoned and direct to the point, the flavor of the beef being the main star of the show instead of the different rubs that are used with this. i went a couple of times, and had i not been almost full when i tried this out, i may have gone on and on and just ate this for the whole meal. :)

another is their japanese station, where you can eat sushi and sashimi to your heart's content. midas cafe's sushi and sashimi are given the same care as their yanagi resto, so if you're up for that authentic japanese stuff, this station is for you. :)

and another thing that i loved is the extensive desserts station that they have, where you can have your fill of cakes, churros, cookies, brownies, crepes and also halo halo :)

midascafebuffet, you are one of the best reasons to visit pasay city. and here i am...enjoying the abundance of delicious food. this buffet really pays attention to detail. from the fancy station decorations, to all the individual tasting plates.

there are different areas for different cuisines but the japanese and carving stations are usually the most backed up because everyone is trying to get their fill on things such as maki, sashimi, usda prime rib, etc.

there's an area for asian cuisine, with things such as dim sum and dumplings, pork ribs, fried rice, pork and egg yolk buns, an area for american/italian food with stuff such as pastas, salads, potatoes, and steaks.

pace yourself and try not to fill up with too many good stuff on your first round! just take your time and try a bit of everything. there was no single dish or item that i could rave about but the overall experience was very pleasant and delicious.

their unique juices from dalandan, to mango, to four seasons, were interesting and a thirst quencher. don't forget the back area where they have artisan breads, meats, and cheeses. if you go back further, you'll eventually hit the dessert station.

their dessert area is huge and has cute little desserts on small plates. i think one of my most favorite stations here is the crepe station. you can have your crepes made-to-order and they come out really hot and fresh.

the service is fast and friendly and they don't rush you while you enjoy your meal. bathrooms are nearby and i love the ambiance of the buffet. my mouth is drooling as i write this review and i can't wait to go back!

many thanks to the staff and chefs of midascafefor hosting me. thank you for such a wonderful afternoon. i highly recommendcafemidas to anyone looking for good quality buffet food at reasonable prices.

i had an invitation from zomato to check out midas cafe's lunch buffet. their buffet cost p1,842.00 per person. midascafeis located at midas hotel and casino, roxas boulevard, pasay city. lunch schedule is from 1130am to 230pm.

after a little introduction to the group, i decided to go check out what the buffet is offering. they have a carving station, a japanese section, chinese, mongolian, western, seafoods for grilling and their dessert section.

for an overview, i liked their carving station, the japanese section is really good too with awesome makis and sashimi. the seafoods are all fresh and tasty. check out my blog for a full review of the hotel and cafe.

my personal rating to the restaurant:

food: 4.0
service: -
place: 4.5

happy eating,
foodie day out

"surprisingly unexpected" pretty much describes the foodie event at the midas hotel and casino last week, march 10th. i joined a gathering of zomato's top reviewers, bloggers, and food-ographers (instagrammers) to sample the buffet at the midas cafe, which is on the second floor of the hotel. we were greeted by the management and head chefs of midas, as well as the top honchos at zomato. i must say, it feels great to be spoiled, and we hadn't even started raiding the buffet yet. it must be the midas touch.

my first stop is at the carving station, because life is too short for salad and appetizers. i am used to having a selection of at least three proteins at the carving stations of most buffet restaurants, so it was a bit of a shock to find only one here. but the one that midascafehad is so good, it almost made me forget about not having roast turkey and lechon. excellent roast beef served with your choice of peppercorn sauce, red wine sauce, classic mushroom gravy, dijon mustard, and pommery. the mushroom gravy was a bit weak, so i would recommend the red wine sauce instead. if you're feeling adventurous, try the pommery with your beef. it looks and tastes like a coarsely ground mustard, with an almost negligible level of heat, and slightly more tangy than it is sweet. you will not regret being handed a fatty slice of roast once you slather it with the pommery. it is the highlight of my week.

the braised fish fillet was slightly overcooked, but seemed like a promising dish on account of the hefty portions and the flavorful sauce.

my next plate was from the asian dishes station. i had king dao spareribs, pork spareribs with tausi, and a piece each of the oat mantao and custard bun. the custard bun is my second favorite dish of the buffet. a warm, soft dough with a rich, velvety filling that reminded me of the filling of a high-quality egg tart. both sparerib dishes were really good too, but it wouldn't hurt to put a stronger, more assertive flavor to the king dao.

the other dishes that put the checkmarks in all the right boxes were the beef kaldereta, beef fried rice, grilled salmon, and cheesy baked tahong. i wish i had more room in my stomach to sample the dishes at the noodles station, the grilling station, and the cheese and desserts. i'll have to put the rest off till my next visit.

the best table at the midascafeseems to be the one with the skylight, the one with the green glass foliage installation overheaad. but any table or seat in the house will do just as well, because the seating here is not as cramped as the other popular buffet restos.

i look forward to booking an overnight stay at the midas hotel and casino soon to try the other two restaurants here. thank you zomato and midas for a great foodie event!

wazing through the midascafebuffet.

navigate across the different food stations of midascafewithout getting full right away.

get just a taste (one bite or tablespoon serving of a dish) to see which strikes your fancy. fight the urge to dump stuff in your plate. oo na, it's a buffet but don't make it look like you came from a war ravaged country. my thought bubble in every buffet is "koya/'day, galing ka bang giyera?! at kabundok yang kanin na yan?"

anyway, the route i would propose is:

1. start light with the japanese station. take a few slices of sashimi, some salad and maki.
2. check out the antipasti (italian for appetizers) of cold cuts, salad greens (sample the midas dressing), pasta or potato salad.
3. now get some brochettes ( skewers yun) and salmon fillet or mussels to be grilled that the efficient staff will bring to your table.
4. then it's time to explore the hot food stations. start with the carving station! roast beef is the one to savor. my fave sauce is the peppercorn sauce and some mustard.
5. if you need some carbs, get a customized plate of either mongolian or noodle dishes which are best shared because you don't want to missed out on the other food stations.
6. get more fill with asian and filipino dishes from chicken inasal, kaldereta, pork rib tausi or even chinese chicken feet.
7. when umay sets in, get some slices of cheese and bread. fyi, cheese course is usually after the main for european cuisines (haller?!)
8. now it's time to be a kid again with the sweet delights that midascafehas to offer from petits four to traditional pinoy rice cakes and the death-by halo-halo bar.
9. once you can't eat anymore, get a pot of twg hot tea. pick from their selection of earl greys (i got the earl grey buddha) and chamomiles.

after you eat, you repeat. that's how you do it in midas cafe.

midascafeis a hidden gem along roxas blvd. it is a fairly new buffetcafethat is just 5 years old that serves an extensive spread that is excelleng. it has a fresh, vibrant, welcoming ambience with tones of light wood and grass green. it maybe overlooking the traffic below, they covered the glass with sticker with leaves printed to create a 'inside' ambience.

the buffet spread has different stations that offer their specialty for each station:

bread
cheese station (appenzeler & gouda)
hors d'oeuvre
salad
japanese station
grill station (fresh salmon & kebabs)
noodle station
pasta station
carving station (usda angus prine rib)
chinese station
fresh fruits
dessert, halo-halo, & crepe station

their buffet is not as extensive as other hotel or restaurants that offer a wide spread of choices in multi-regional stations. it is not as confusing as to other restaurants, but they highlighted their specialties in each. all of their offering is quite good, especially in my favorite station, the hors d'oeuvres! simple yet flavorful. their desserts are quite good, with some item i didn't like.

most of the time, when i dine in buffets, the best/worst thing that happens to me is getting full and not being satisfied on alot of items i ate. but because of the small bites of every item in the spread, i'll end up asking for a pot of hot tea after every meal.

overall, i was satisfied with most of the items in the spread. it's really hard to find a buffet with all aces in their spread. there will always be hits and misses, but midascafebuffet has more 'quality than quantity.'

the buffet spread is quite limited but there are some few dishes that will make the trip to midascafeworth it, such as the prawns (which they can cook based on your preference) and the beef/carving station!

i expected much from midas café because the dishes were a bit on the pricey side. i ordered pan-seared marinated salmon steak, but got quite disappointed after taking the first bite. although huge, the salmon was slightly overcooked and was too hard. i strongly felt that the dish could still be improved with proper seasoning, and with the addition of herbs or spices.

the parma ham panizza had a thin, and crispy crust. the combination was quite basic, which was why the dish totally worked. i also got try their freshly squeezed orange juice but i found it too sweet. i requested for another one with less sugar/syrup, and they gladly made me another one.
