below is the review of their irving branch (next to whiskey cake) not sure why it only has plano, tx in the options. anyways, it’s agreatplace to dine-in with perfect indoor and outdoor seating. if you are too tired of going to very casual dine-ins and want to try a place that’s chic yet classy then this is your place. excellent service andgreatfood. tried the mesquite grilled chicken plate and steak enchiladas. the sauce in both these dishes were finger lickin’ good. both of these were very satisfying meals at an affordable price. we were served by ms. itzel, who was very
nice and took care of us through out. good food, good drinks, good service and happy tummy and soul😊

a dinner at mexican sugar had been planned for a while after hearing so many good things about them.  i was excited to see what all the fuss was about.  

bottom line:  
excellent food with agreatprice point for the quality and quantity of what you receive.

details:  
i ordered the lump crab enchiladas.  wow--they weren't just good--they were perfect.  extremely flavorful without being stuffed, i enjoyed these enchiladas.  their enchilada sauce base was probably one of the best that i've tasted in several years, so kudos to mexican sugar on that!  even the cilantro lime rice that came with the dinner was done nicely; it wasn't over cooked and the pairings of the cilantro and lime were obviously done with much expertise--great.

we also ordered the skirt steak.  why?  isn't that risky?  yes, it is!   the sign of agreateating establishment is how they prepare the skirt steak so that it is delicious without being chewy or stringy.  after being marinated for quite some time to break down the collagen in the meat, the meat should be tender and ready for cooking.  they took care not to cook the skirt steak fast; this paid off because it was a fantastic plate, complete with red onions, avocado, queso fresco, a really nice tomatillo sauce and out-of-this-world borracho beans.  i'm normally not one to rave about beans in general, but wow--these borracho beans were really good.

the service was nicely paced.  we noshed on their complimentary chips and salsa.  i had to constrain myself as they were quite good.  not greasy but very light.  the salsa was very memorable--i wanted to take home a gallon.

had dinner here recently. the tenderloin tacos were very good. we also liked the chicken tacos. salsa is ok. service was very good. greatfor happy hour.

great food,greatcocktails, andgreatatmosphere. the smoked pineapple margarita is my go to drink, the skirt steak with tomatillo sauce is delicious, and the chocolate avocado cake is agreatfinish.

fantastic place . three of us were there for dinner on a tuesday night . the place was packed and there was no table available inside. we sat outside as the weather was pleasant. the cocktails were too good. we had the frozen margaritas. we shared the arepas which is a griddles corn cake with slaw @ cilantro cream. it was amazing. for mains we had the pesacdo ( fish tacos) & the whole snapper.greatfood and fantastic service.

this place is decorated and designed to perfection.greatmimosa bar and benedict too! we'll be back fo sho.

not great. bad service and drinks. good food. my other half visited with their friends and had a good experience so she decided to make it a date night for us last thursday. unfortunately our experience was not that great.

we arrived and decided to sit outside as it was still a pretty nice day. we picked a table and were ignored by every server that went by for at least 10 to 15 minutes. now if the place is busy i can understand that, however the place was not busy and the server who was supposed to attend our table was one of the one of the ones who ignored us.

we ordered drinkings and food and they arrived as expected. one thing to note is that they don't offer complimentary chips and salsa as most mexican place. not a big deal for us but for for the food prices you would expect it.

the food was good. warm and good flavor but a little overpriced. drinks were week. the skinny margaritas is less than 2 ounces with a splash of tequila. the mojito was mostly ice and celser

overall not agreatexperience. sad as my other half was really looking forward to the visit.

hands down amazing mexican fusion food. the bartenders are atentive to your needs and havegreatrecommendations. i am an ugly man, and they still served me with a smile. must try the elote street style with any entree

beautiful decor &greatfood. mexican sugar has an instant appeal as you walk up. it's a nice patio with sleek but rustic decor. inside the waiting area has cool hanging rope tables with round seat cushions. the restaurant itself can be broken up into three room decors. there's the lounge area with large tables and wingback chairs. there's the middle area with bar tables and cow hides on the floor. then in the back is a brick lofted ceiling with red candles and wine bottles. it's all beautiful.

the food is just as good as the looks of the place. this is not tex-mex, so don't look for it. the arepa is to die for. the toasted corn cake has a pulled beef and crema slaw on it with wonderful cheese bits and spices. each bite is a savory delight. the chicken a la brasas was moist and full of flavor. so was the corn dish paired with the chicken. for desert we had the pumpkin flan. the homemade whip cream and caramel were a fine finish to a wonderful meal.

word of caution. the wait is very long. if the place is packed, the noise level is deafening. you cannot hear and that's not exaggerating. the server had to repeat her self and all but get in our ear to talk.

speaking of service, ours rocked, but the rest of the place acts like a restaurant that just opened. it has tons of mistakes and bad service. the host station is overwhelmed. the bar is slow and none-responsive.

my recommendation, come enjoy the splendor of this place in off odd hours. you will like this place and the food.

after dining at mexican sugar, i now have a new favorite mexican food restaurant in collin county. the appetizer, meal, and dessert were all excellent. the waitstaff was amazing and fawned over us all night long. the ambiance at mexican sugar is very high energy and this would be agreatplace to dine with friends. we can't wait for our next trip to mexican sugar so we can try some of the other menu items.

excellent mexican food. service wasgreattoo. i have tried 3 different types of tacos and they have all been great. don't skip the queso or the cinco leches cake!

anothergreatrestaurant by the owners of whiskey cake. this is not your typical tex-mex. we did start with the queso blanco which was delicious. they also serve a wonderful classic margarita. everything else was much more unique. i loved the brussels sprout slaw with my carnita tacos and the tacos with pineapple were delicious too. my husband had the half chicken with quinoa and kale and enjoyed it. the atmosphere was fun and cozy. we will return.
