the place was very stylish and located in the heart of plano. the pricing was reasonable and service was fast with friendly staff and plenty of varieties to choose in menu from beers, cocktails, scotch, tequilas, mezcals and fine wine. the food was equally tasty. spent a pleasant afternoon with my friends.

below is the review of their irving branch (next to whiskey cake) not sure why it only has plano, tx in the options. anyways, it’s a great place to dine-in with perfect indoor and outdoor seating. if you are too tired of going to very casual dine-ins and want to try a place that’s chic yet classy then this is your place. excellent service and great food. tried the mesquite grilled chicken plate and steak enchiladas. the sauce in both these dishes were finger lickin’ good. both of these were very satisfying meals at an affordable price. we were served by ms. itzel, who was very
nice and took care of us through out. good food, good drinks, good service and happy tummy and soul😊

good tacos and fresh meats. freshly made salsa with different combinations, guacamole stuff are really great, accompanied with drinks. best place to hangout on weekdays evenings. chips are average but not failing your evening mood.

most of us have heard of fomo (fear of missing out) by now.  i experience fomo when i am researching some of dfw’s top restaurants and i haven’t had the opportunity to go yet!  i can now check mexican sugar cocina and cantina off of my list.  located within the shops of legacy in west plano, mexican sugar cocina and cantina skyrocketed itself to one of my favorite dfw restaurants!

excellent place for mexican food! fish tacos were awesome and the hibiscus tortilla was out of this world. music a little too loud to my taste but overall ambiance was pretty good. please order churros for dessert, you will not regret it!!! in fact you would probably go back for more.

a dinner at mexican sugar had been planned for a while after hearing so many good things about them.  i was excited to see what all the fuss was about.

bottom line:
excellent food with a great price point for the quality and quantity of what you receive.

details:
i ordered the lump crab enchiladas.  wow--they weren't just good--they were perfect.  extremely flavorful without being stuffed, i enjoyed these enchiladas.  their enchilada sauce base was probably one of the best that i've tasted in several years, so kudos to mexican sugar on that!  even the cilantro lime rice that came with the dinner was done nicely; it wasn't over cooked and the pairings of the cilantro and lime were obviously done with much expertise--great.

we also ordered the skirt steak.  why?  isn't that risky?  yes, it is!   the sign of a great eating establishment is how they prepare the skirt steak so that it is delicious without being chewy or stringy.  after being marinated for quite some time to break down the collagen in the meat, the meat should be tender and ready for cooking.  they took care not to cook the skirt steak fast; this paid off because it was a fantastic plate, complete with red onions, avocado, queso fresco, a really nice tomatillo sauce and out-of-this-world borracho beans.  i'm normally not one to rave about beans in general, but wow--these borracho beans were really good.

the service was nicely paced.  we noshed on their complimentary chips and salsa.  i had to constrain myself as they were quite good.  not greasy but very light.  the salsa was very memorable--i wanted to take home a gallon.

great food, great cocktails, and great atmosphere. the smoked pineapple margarita is my go to drink, the skirt steak with tomatillo sauce is delicious, and the chocolate avocado cake is a great finish.

fantastic place . three of us were there for dinner on a tuesday night . the place was packed and there was no table available inside. we sat outside as the weather was pleasant. the cocktails were too good. we had the frozen margaritas. we shared the arepas which is a griddles corn cake with slaw @ cilantro cream. it was amazing. for mains we had the pesacdo ( fish tacos) & the whole snapper. great food and fantastic service.

the spicy margaritas are great. get the spicy watermelon margarita, it's the best! this is usually very busy so try to get a reservation or sit in the open seating area near the bar.

thoroughly enjoyed! my mom and i tried the fish tacos and we're not disappointed at all! the flavor a were different than what you usually find at a mexican restaurant in texas, which made them even more phenomenal. it was unexpectedly delicious. the atmosphere is very nice and there isn't a friday not when it is not packed. definitely worth a taste!

saturday afternoon i visited a restaurant that has been on my list ever since i heard news of its opening in november 2013 (yes, i’m late). the 9,000 square-foot mexican sugar cocina y cantina is located at the shops at legacy in plano and is owned by the same company, fork it over, that owns velvet taco & whiskey cake. if you’re familiar with either of the two then it should come as no surprise that mexican sugar is anything but ordinary, especially considering their selection of 135 tequilas and 35 mescals. if that isn’t enough to captivate you, our waitress, lauren, informed us they’re named “mexican sugar” because mexican (cane) sugar is added to 70% of their cocktails/dishes & due to their large inventory of mexican sodas.

the stars are for food only! the food was great, the service was awful!! our waiter was nice however it took way to long to get everything. we sat down at 12:00, at 2:30 we still had not gotten our check! we had a party of 13, with reservations, one waiter!! it took 30 minutes after we were all seated to get our drink order. not all drinks or appetizers, chips and queso, were delivered by the time the food was brought out, over an hour and half after arriving. the food order wasn't taken for almost an hour after everyone had arrived. the food was wonderful but based on service we will never go back!!! i would have taken a picture of my salad but after waiting an hour and half i was to hungry to take a picture first! the whole experience because of the poor service, again our waiter was very nice however he didn't ask for help when he realized there was a timing issue, trumped the fact that the food was wonderful!
