my steak was not as fine as it usually is, then iordereda berry crisp that had some soggy oatmeal and butter on top of it. i advised the waitress it was under done and she said that is how it is make. i fail to see the crisp in it? overpriced for what we got. previous occasion the food was amazing. i hesitate to waist money on poor food with quality prices. hope they fix the consistency problem!

chef chris. 'm not sure what all the hype is about. we arrived at 630 and put our name in for a table for 4. we left to go have a drink at a neighboring bar. about an hour later they called to tell us our table was ready. we got back within 5 minutes of their call and then continued to wait for 15 minutes more. our waiter did not smile and was not engaging we had to ask for bread twice as we watched the waitress helping the table across from us with enthusiasm. we had to ask about the specials which should have been done right away when we were seated. iorderedthe filet which was decent and that's why i gave 2 stars however the steaks are seasoned or coated with something strange that detracts from the taste of the meet. my husbands nyorderedmedium came medium well and was very thin and our friend whoorderedthe roast chicken was not edible. the parmesan potatoes were hard, dry and bland and the veggies over
roasted. after over an hour wait, paying 40.00 per person and marginal food we won't be back.......bummer we were so looking forward to a great new place to go.

decent food - horrible service. after reading all of the rave reviews about this place i decided to give it a try. my husband and i arrived about 7 and were placed on the waiting list, 45 minutes. we were directed to wait in the bar (tiny!) we stood uncomfortably for 10 or so minutes before we finally got a seat. it took another 10 minutes to get our drinks! probably because our extremely rude bartender was busy fighting with a waitress. so unprofessional! slamming around behind the bar while cracking rude remarks back at said waitress as if the whole bar of people weren't watching??? finally (after seriously considering skipping dinner) we were seated. after yet another 5 plus minutes of waiting our waitress arrived, the same one from the bar. iorderedthe fillet mignon and my husband the rib eye. the meal included a starter salad. iorderedmine with ranch and was informed that there were only 2 salad dressing choices: balsamic or blue cheese, neither to my liking. my waitress explained that the blue cheese was very mild and suggested i try it. great decision, the homemade blue cheese dressing was actually delicious! my husband wanted another martini however we had not seen our waitress since she took our order as someone else had brought our salad, and another someone else had brought us ice water. perhaps she was busy being yelled at by that horrible bartender. our dinner finally arrived 45 minutes later, served by, you guessed it, somebody else, although our waitress did stop by a few minutes later to ask how it tasted. the truth is it was spectacular. the steak was melt in your mouth, one of the best i've had. the vegetables were cooked but crisp and the crispy potatoes (fancy home fries) were quite good as well. we haven't decided if we will return to melrose grill. sadly the horribly rude bartender and inattentive waitress ruined what would have been a lovely evening. i wonder if they do take out?

i wish i'd taken a picture!. so you go to a steakhouse for a steak, right? you won't be disappointed at the melrose grill in renton. i wish i had a photo of the filet served to me last night.: medium rare, chicago style, and when i asked if they could toss a slice of bleu cheese on top, without hesitation our server said yes.

it was perfection. the meat sliced easily and from my first bite i realized i should haveorderedthe larger steak. plenty for dinner, but what about leftovers for later? the cheese had a bite that only good bleu cheese has. every single bite was a delight. chicago style really is the best way to eat a fine piece of meat and this was cooked to absolute perfection.

i know most of you wine connoisseurs snub your noses at white wine, but i love a good glass of white wine. with the bartender's help, iordereda glass of waterbrook. in this day of importing this and importing that, it's a nice change to see an emphasis on the local wineries. i like local! and this white had a lovely flavor, not overpowering, just a nice addition to my meal.

i can't stop thinking about that steak. it was incredible. beautifully presented, fresh vegetables, gently sauteed with just a bit of crunch.

the staff was friendly but not overbearing. they certainly know their menu and just hearing them talk about the menu made it hard to choose.

oh, by the way, the beefsteak tomato and bleu cheese salad is now my favorite salad. i substituted this for the dinner salad and could have made a meal just of that salad.

desert? we were too full, but we saw some going by and they looked yummy.

oversold, over priced. it isn't that i am not interested in paying $50 for a meal. it is just that i think that a $50 meal in renton should buy me quality and service and i was provided poor service and inconsistent quality at this historical cafe. maybe it is the monday night staff?

the waiter started by asking if i wanted water. (why ask?)he didn't know the differences between the 6 white wines on the menu (but he could ask...). i substituted the (special) spinich salad ($2.50 xtra) with peanut dressing. it came but the dressing was not at all balanced. there were not sufficient vinagre notes to offset the heavy pb. after i was mostly finished with the salad the glass of wine showed up (a nasty finish to my wa wine choice, they should review their list, good wa whites are available!).

i hadorderedthe ak halibut special ($29) with the $8 oscar on the side. the waiter said the halibut came with rice pilaf. in fact, it was curried rice with a 2nd side of roasted root veggies. the oscar came in a ramikin and it was clear it had been warmed in the oven and never turned - half cold/half warm. the halibut was nice, they tried to make it asian with crusted nut exterior. it didn't marry with zuchini & root vegtables but worked with curry rice. this special wasn't completely thought through.

waiter did not show up to ask about meal, and the place wasnt busy. when he did show up after i had finished, i told him about the oscar problem. he didn't apologize and acted as if, aw, sucks for you. he looked at my empty water glass and asked if i wanted more. (hmm...i would've prefered if you filled it 20 min ago without asking...) womens's bathroom didn't latch well and i walked in on another customer. 2 toilets in this bathroom room with no privacy screens. storage outside toilet. (sigh) just for yucks iorderedthe creme brulee. waiter did not inform me that it would be covered with raw slivered walnuts. (i should've asked?). creme brulee was tasty but temperature was off. (maybe the warm up of the sugar coating was rushed?)

won't return, wouldn't recommend. note to owner: staff seemed inconsistently trained, other staff seemed more helpful/attentive to tables than mine. kitchen issues solvable after a few surprise visits. pricing should be handled, too high.

great steak...... in renton?. hadn't even heard of this place until a friend suggested it. a very small, unassuming place (think jax), but that is where the line is drawn.

after being extremely disappointed at a recent experience with steak at a restaurant that costs 3 times as much, this was amazing!

i had the 15 oz filet, cooked medium rare to perfection (read a review about someone ordering a medium well filet that was half burnt, isn't that what medium well is? don't order a filet medium well, get a hamburger instead...sheesh).

the amazing part about the filet was that it comes with the potato and salad, so you aren't getting stiffed with that whole ä la carte"crap.

waiter was friendly, the menu was great, where else are you walking out of a restaurant havingordered2 15 oz. filets, with sides and drinks for under $100? nowhere..... this place is excellent and deserves the business.
