very medium. don't expect real steak at medium rare; this is a slender but tender london broil. nice concept but twice the price of the goods. menu is a set menu, meaning they serve just steak & fries w/ salad, bread and fair choice of wines (middling) however, the hidden charge comes when the "seconds" are served. that's right! just double the set price (minus the salad)! and you won't get dinner music... just fm classic rock or something -- blaring if you sit too close to the entrance (room #1). service is fine, but a shame what's delivered leaves you wondering.

i wish i was closer!. found this place while here on travel, all i can say is that it was amazing! much has been said about the pri fixe menu. it's simplicity is what makes this place truly good. my steak was done to perfection, and that secret sauce...mmmm! i wish i could have talked them out of the recipe!
my only problem was with the fries. they call them frites, but they just seemed generic to me. i wish they were more authentic or home made. they just seemed like frozen generic fries, oh well, it didn't ruin my experience, or make me not crave this place every night since i got back from vacay!

they do one thing and they do it well (medium-rare actually). no decisions necessary—oh the bliss.

we visited for dinner and enjoyed everything. the staff was welcoming, the location was cozy and relaxed. everything on the simple, straight-froward menu was great and would recommend the key lime pie for dessert. and yes, the sauce is great.

i simply love the concept. the one in cleveland park was the first branch i visited. went there for dinner with a friend and fell in love with the meat, the sauce, the fries refill, and not to forget the dessert

jenna golden january 5, 2015 restaurant review , reviews there is something very refreshing about a small and tailored menu. to me it says that the restaurant knows what it does well, and is dedicated to focusing on those items and ensuring they are always done right. enter medium rare , the d.c. go-to for steak frites, which was opened by tom gregg and mark bucher in cleveland park back in 2011. the restaurant was an instant hit, pulling its inspiration from parisian spots such as le relais de l'entrecôte which serve high quality steak frites, and nothing else. and in recent years it has expanded with a second outpost in barracks row. however, medium rare is also known for their brunch, and every year they do a new year's day pajama brunch that my friends and i decided to attend just a few days ago.

absolutely love this place!. absolutely love this place. it seems like most successful places are the ones that know how to keep things simple. whenever you're in the mood for some steak, this place hits the spot for a very affordable price. for a fixed price of $19.50, their award-winning culotte steak & hand-cut fries with secret sauce is absolutely delicious. in the mood for drinks...i would recommend a bottle/glass of malbec, specifically the "simona moenaert estate" from argentina. if you're not in the mood for wine, i would then suggest the avery ipa, one of my personal favorites. stop by for dinner or drinks, you won't be disappointed!

medium rare is a steak frites restaurant from the same people who brought you bgr. the inside draws from an upscale brasserie theme: exposed brick, low ceilings, wooden floors, with granite-topped metal tables filling the sizable space. the lighting shifts with the time; during the daytime, light streams in the large windows, but at night it gets real dim. it's clean and simple, with a little elegant flair in between.

the culotte steak (top sirloin cap) was topped with the restaurant’s “secret sauce” and served with a generous heap of frites.

i absolutely love this place! the salad is the perfect size and the homemade dressing is exquisite with a tangy dijon mustard flavor! the fresh bread is crispy on the outside but the inside is warm and melts in your mouth! the two servings of perfectly cooked steak are set over the top with the savory secret sauce that makes your mouth water for more! the sauce is so delicious that it is also perfect also for dunking the hand cut frites in! i also recommend ordering the carrot cake it moist and the cream cheese frosting is life changing! medium rare is a+ and a must try!

and finally – the steak, slices of dry-aged cap sirloin, and frites may be served on a surprisingly small plate, but not to worry, there is much more to come. although both helpings were delicious, my second helping of steak frites was actually better than my first – the steak juicier, the fries crunchier.
