unfortunately i have to echo the negative sentiments of the previous reviewers. theservicewas unbelievably bad and it completely overshadowed the food. we went for brunch, and by the time our food arrived (appx 1 hr 20 min after being seated) we were so ravenous it was hard to enjoy anything. i was particularly disappointed in the lack of explanation or apology from our server. we were scoping out a good brunch spot for some out-of-town friends, and this is definitely no longer a contender. because the food is good, i'll give it another chance at some point, but boc badly needs to address theserviceissues. at least offer some bread, crackers or something if customers are going to have such an exorbitant wait for food.

5 stars for moody eclecticism. three meals there this week alone. most recently i took my whole huge family with me, and boc pulled off the impossible and made everyone happy. vegans, pescitarians, carnivores alike. we had steak, tempeh, breakfast, dinner, appetizers and desserts, and no one left disappointed in theserviceor the food. i know that now and then everybody has a bad day, and god knows somebody at boc is likely to tell me if my new haircut looks funny or if i have a bad attitude. that's exactly what i love about it. it's just like going home. they hug you and love you no matter how goofy you look, and i'm about as proud of being called a regular at boc as i am of any other professional relationship i have in this town. why? because i used to just be a customer, and now i'm a friend. that's how they roll at boc.

my family and i visited mary's to celebrate my nephew's graduation and i was completely taken back by the appalling behavior of a waitress who wasn't even serving my table. when my nephew kindly said "excuse me" so he could get by as well as to let the waitress know he was about to pass by her, she turns around and loudly yells "i'm working! there's plenty of space for you to go!" i'm working right now!". i explained to her that he was simply saying "excuse me" and that she was very rude. she replied "some people have to talk to other people like that". shocked, i repeated her statement "other people?!" so she could explain what she meant but she simply said she was working and walked away. my family owns a series of restaurants in winston-salem so i think i know what goodserviceis and what its not. i am disgusted by this grown woman's lack of professionalism and poor choice of words. i will absolutely no be returning to this establishment. mary is a good friend of my sister who owns la botana on hanes mall boulevard, so i'm sorry that this waitress (whom i am told is mary's daughter) has caused such a revolting experience on what should have been a happy day.

don't bother better spots in the area. his place looked promising, but i was mistaken.

our server, dena, was the only highlight of this visit. she's terrific.

first, it lists themselves on happy cow as being veg friendly, which was a plus. but upon arriving, we learned differently, and yes we will be notifying happy cow regarding their listing.

total bill 32.19 for lunch for two! a bad lunch to boot.
here's the breakdown.
sparkling water $2. - perfect
one buckwheat pancake $5.00 - asked for no powdered sugar, got it anyway. this was by far the worst buckwheat pancake, hard, crunchy with only the part with blueberries moist and edible.
blueberries - $2.50
blt 0 $8.50 0- but wait~! i asked for no bacon! a side of bacon is $3.00 - so they could resell that bacon, but #1, someone put bacon on it and took it off - for those of you who are veg you know when you can get a whiff of hardwood smoke bacon that's been on the bread. so i asked for avocado instead of bacon.
side of avacado $2.15 added to my bill - unripe avacado, like 2 little slices.
rueben - $10.00 - asked for no cheese, got cheese anyway.
these people #1 can not follow directions when you order.
#2 i asked about the upcharge for the raw unripe avacado, since i did not get bacon, the owner of the place was rude and foolish in her response of "you should have read the front of the menu". really, i just paid $10.65 for a horrible sandwich and this is your rude response?

you know, a place that has great customerserviceand mediocre food can pass, but this place had horrible food, and a rude owner who did not see the value in return customers, nor one who writes for several online blogs and reviews for newspapers, can't wait to write up this one folks. save your money, there are far better places to eat in the area, lots of better places.

check out mary's specials!. winston-salem just wouldn't be the same without marys. she uses the best fresh, local and organic ingredients humanly possible, and you can absolutely taste it in all of her dishes. the menu is a fantastic mix of brunch staples, but don't forget to try the specials, because they are inevitably creative, tasty and inspired by cuisine from all over the world. some reviewers complain about the prices and service, to which i would respond that a) the prices reflect the quality of the ingredients. if you want a cheap breakfast sandwich, go to mcds.; and b) i've had greatserviceon every trip here - and there have been many. don't miss mary's; there's a reason this restaurant is ranked in the top 5 brunch spots in nc!

this place was pretty yummy!servicewas a little slow given the fare they were cooking but overall was pleased. i got a make your own egg scramble with a side of grits and toast. everything was pretty good! funky and fun atmosphere with mismatched coffee mugs, ecclectic murals and such.

mary’s gourmet diner began as “ mary’s of course “, then grew into “ breakfast of course (and mary’s too) ” at a new, larger location at the northern edge of winston-salem’s art district. they’re still there, in the once-upon-a-time bank building which underwent a complete (gutted) remodel and to which a wondiferous patio was added. mary’s is still serving breakfast, but she’s expanded the menu to include many favorites from her original mary’s of course. that’s not mary. mary supports local artists in a big way, though. she’s also a big believer in alice waters’ and the slow food movement. we had breakfast in the upper (up a few steps) dining room, which boasts a large garden of eden wall mural painted by local artist, jason blevins.servicepieces are eclectic, adding to the fun. equinox eggs ($11.95) might be served on this plate any time during the year. a bed of can’t-believe-how-good-they-are corn cakes were first topped with steamed organic & local greens (chard, arugula, kale).

terrible service. i was shocked at the terribleservicewe received for sunday brunch. it took almost 10 minutes before anyone came to our table for our drink order and we immediately ordered our meal right then and it took almost an hour for two of us to receive our omelets and fruit. i was appalled and will never return. not very apologetic at all. it would have been nice for them to bring us some toast or something while we patiently waited. when you are paying over $10 for an omelet i expect much better service. we will never go back. there are too many other good places that serve delicious food within a reasonable amount of time.

way underwhelmed.. i heard nothing but great things about breakfast of course, and i have never been more disappointed. i went in expecting an amazing breakfast, but it was terrible. theservicewas awful and the food was even more awful. i haven't been back since. i wanted it to be a hangout spot, but it failed me. they have a great variety of food, but it's over priced and not prepared well.

omelets & french toast.... breakfast of course is a great place if you're looking to build-your-own omelet with fresh and unique ingredients or have the best french toast in winston-salem. if you're looking for your standard breakfast chain-restaurant, you're going think boc is overpriced and not worth the wait!

i prefer quality when it comes to my food and my boc meets that standard. you definitely get what you pay for a boc. although, my only complaint is that there is not veggie omelet on the menu (or your standard omelet combinations listed for a reasonable price). the build-your-own omelet is perfect for people that want this or that, but you will pay a lot for an omelet if you want it loaded with veggies.

i've never experienced any problems with the employees or customerserviceas stated in previous posts. since the food is prepared fresh and made to order, it's understood that it could take awhile before your food it served, which is completely acceptable to me!

disappointed!! horribleserviceby the owners daughter... she yells at everyone even the customers. theservicewas increadibly rude and slow. everyone i have spoken with agrees that it is over priced and slow for a 2 star restaraunt. and all agree that the food was delish when they had a true 5 star chef that they ran out of there!! their lose!! and continues to be a lose!!servicecould be better if they didn't appear to be all on drugs... the nick name around that they have acquired is b*%^#'s on crack! just saying ~ i tried to like it by going 4 different times but i don't want to feel abused when i'm trying to have a meal

horrible place. this place plain sucks. horrible service. only good thing to say is they have good coffee. been there twice and both timesservicetakes forever to get! you must also take out a loan to eat here because of the prices that make zero sense at all. i think they must have asked a third grader to do the pricing system. i have lived in nyc, charlotte, miami and i could have received a much better meal for half the price in any of those big cities. the owner needs to realize she is in winston-salem and has a staff that looks as if they smoked a little to much green before starting work. horrible management and staff. never going back
