good, but expensive for dim sum. be prepared to wait in line during the weekend brunch hours. standard dim sum offerings well executed. be prepared for the bill however, $50 for two adults was a little steep. might try a neighborhood competitor before going back.foodoverall a-.

went for saturday lunch for dim sum and we were pleasantly surprised at thefoodcart choices...minus the duck and suckling pig. my husband enjoyed them but they were just "okay" for me. everything we had off the steam cart was fantastic. from the outside we weren't so sure of the authenticity, but when you walk in its a totally different story. we will definitely go again and it was worth the drive from old town.

looking for peking duck, just moved to the area and i was looking for a place that has peking duck and these rolls filled with egg custard. i called around and marks duck house is the only one that said they had both. so we gave it a go. on a sunday around 12:00 the wait time was around 30 min (take the time if you haven’t already to look over the vast menu and the dim sum menu) but well worth it. when stepping into marks duck house it’s like stepping into hong kong; at first glance there is not much to see, a set of windows and the entryway in a corner shopping center. when you step through the doors a little hong kong comes alive, a small restaurant to the hilt hustling and bustling with people, as men and women push around carts offoodfor dim sum.  as you make your way to your table you are overwhelmed with the smells of amazing foods. we sat down for a meal that is about to be so enjoyable, jasmine hot tea and a coca cola (by the can) to drink.  we already knew what we wanted ½ peking duck ($17.95) served with crepes, scallions and their special plum sauce; the server assembled table-side a crepe, a delightfully fresh tasting combination. general tso’s chicken ($13.95) served with al-dente broccoli and steamed rice, takes my husband back to the first time he tried general tso’s chicken. we shared the two entrees, still having enough left over for lunch another day (just as good reheated).  pineapple bun ($3.50) don’t let the name of this bun fool you, there is no pineapple here. with the tops of these buns scored to look like the exterior of a pineapple, these warm buns are filled with a creamy egg custard, a sweet heavenly dessert type bun. these pineapple buns are so good we got a second order to go. marks duck house is a restaurant that not only is worth the wait, it’s worth more than one trip. will return for sure.

i didn't eat a good portion of each dish and the waitress was extremely efficient in having takeaway cartons ready and packed them up before i could say thank you. mark's duck house isn't a different spin on dim sum or chinesefoodlike redfarm or chinatown brasserie. it is a good old fashioned authentic chinese restaurant. i like saying authentic because it sounds authoritative but i've never been to china to eat theirfoodthere so i guess its better to say, "what i presume is authentic" chinese food. it doesn't mute flavors for the american palette like so many chinese places do and it definitely doesn't shy away from the more 'exotic' ingredients. i've always recommend mark's for dim sum probably over some of the places i've tried in nyc. but now, i can recommend that you visit mark's just to try out their rather extensive menu. if you're used to just the run-of-the-mill local chinese restaurants that offer over msg'edfoodand americanized dishes then mark's will open your

goong hay fat choi! happy chinese new year. for those that are unfamiliar, the chinese and most asian cultures have used a lunar calendar for thousands of years and traditionally celebrate the lunar new year, which usually falls somewhere in january or february. the chinese zodiac consists of 12 animals that rotate every year. so without further ado, welcome to the year of the rabbit! when i was growing up, chinese new year meant two things; lai see and mountains of chinese food. lai see are money-filled red envelopes that are usually given to junior family members by senior family members (married adults). clearly an upgrade over the western new year which usually consisted of a night with the grandparents and dick clark , while my parents were out partying. unfortunately, for you, our new year's wishes cannot be accompanied by lai see. so let's get to that other highlight of chinese new year... the mountain of chinese food. we've long lamented the lack of chinesefoodoptions in dc a

eater be warned...... its difficult to find good dim sum around d.c....we knew that..but we had great hopes for marks duck house...i called beforehand and they said they were still serving dim sum (it was sunday, not super late)...we drove in were brought a menu and ordered...and waited...and waited some more....and after about five minutes were able to get the attention of the waiter. our first order attempt failed....they were out of more than half of the dim sum menu...so we ordered a couple items and verified that they didn't have shrimp in them (yep the joys of allergies)...a few minutes later a second waiter came over and told us that one of the four dim sums we ordered were also unavailable...we swiched it out (no big deal) and reverified that no items had shrimp in them...we got our first item of order: eggplant...and dug into it...before my first bite: shrimp. we called the (second) waiter over and asked him: is this shrimp? he said "of course" and is that a problem? he manager came over and we asked him of the items we ordered "did any of them have shrimp" and he said yes...two of the four items we ordered did...and you see where this is going.....bad service, uninformed wait staff, staff that doesn't communicate.....runs outfoodquickly.....extremely frustrating and disapointing....after that horrible experience i sadly never want to go back....and i caution you before you make an attempt at this place!
