marco's restaurant & lounge

where to begin. interesting old standard of a dated(70s?) italian restaurant. does a great lunch bussiness. nights are an amalgam of old folks,couples on the down low looking to escape prying eyes and aging alternative lifestyle practitioners. the more progressive of the crowd will end the evening at the red key.foodis not why you come here. it's a step back in time when things were simple and the term eatery had not yet been uttered. try it.

i read the other reviews and realized most of them are old and more indicative of the prior owner's management of the restaurant.  if you have not been there recently you should go there for excellentfoodand service.  i eat there at least once or twice a week.  i just had a wonderful dinner of sea scallops and penne pasta in vodka sauce tonight.  the staff is friendly and the owner is welcoming and will address any concerns if you have one, which is doubtful.  

also they do take credit cards even though it says cash only above.

awesome.... granted we arrived at 830 on a wednesday but it was the best restaurant experience ive had in a loooong time. my mom and i like to experiment with different restaurants (mostly new, in broadripple) and ironically this old place beat them all...like i said a slow wednesday, but it was the most intimate, warm dining experience i can recall. we ate outside where a duet began performing around 9pm. apparently the female singer was the replacement but she was still great, and gave my mom a kiss afterwards.foodwas great, service, great...again we arrived as the crowd had thinned out, but we always dine that late, and never experienced anything so good. they timed the serviing of drinks, soups, salads perfectly...slow enough we didn't feel rushed out, fast enough we weren't wondering where ourfoodwas. weve arrived at 830 at other places and still felt rushed.

if you are ever in the mood for a quiet lunch in a quiet little joint then by all means get to marco’s; it’s over on 54th street just west of keystone.it’s been around for over 20 years,and thefoodis more than reasonably priced.the dining room has a certain old school charm;a place to take a special honey,not an old college pal.and the money you save could go towards a real hotel room;not some no tell motel.well enough of the fantasy;back to the food. all the specials come with bread and salad for under 8 bucks.in the case of the grilled orange roughy  a side veggie is included.pat thought it was very tasty; especially when he stuck it in one of the baguettes they serve.sometimes a fella needs a samich.their vod didn’t trip his trigger so he opted for cottage cheese; now what can you say about cottage cheese?as for my chicken parmesan it was pretty good.a good sized rarebit dish filled with pasta tossed in a decent sauce ,topped with a grilled breast ,smothered with mozz and the whol

great place to take a date. we went during the week. we had no wait what so ever, and were immediately greeted and sat outside (preference). they had a lovely shaded area outside, where a live duet played. they're music was great, and sounded of cd quality (if you couldnt see them, you would have thought it was a cd playing). they play requests, and its a gentleman on a piano, and lady singing.foodwas awesome! very great calamari and chicken parmigiana. they have a a soup and salad that come with the meal, as well as bread, to make this complete. the staff was excellent, and very pleasant. i am a talker, and ended up speaking with the owner, as well as 3 other waiters/waitresses on different topics. very pleasant staff. i will be taking my girlfriend here again for sure! (and we drove 45 minutes to get this meal). highly recommend!

bad service and mediocre food. a group of about 15 people met at marco's for dinner at 7pm and our dinner was not served until 8:30pm. our waitress had large parties both inside and on the outside patio where we were seated. the restaruant seemed to be overwhelmed with business on a tuesday night due to "steak night", a $10 filet dinner promotion. it took forever to get drinks, order appetizers, order meals, get our meals and then to wait for the checks. to add insult to injury the restaurant added a 20% tip to the bill (including a tip on the taxes which i never include). we finally left just after 10pm having eaten mediocre and overpricedfoodwith terrible service. i've eaten at marco's for probably close to 30 years but will not return anytime soon.

i see a pattern here.. does ownership/mgmt even care? seems to me this place would do something about fixing there bad service and not that good/coldfoodfor the price. hmmm.

we were there last night for over two hours your service/server sucked.foodwas overpriced and not that good and you didnt even bother to knock any money off. if this continues i don't see this place surviving. def lost about 10 customers last night.

got here at 1830. just got our bread at 7pm. still havent seen our salad or appetizer. need a sense of urgency the service is atrocious its 730 now don't be in a hurry at this place. jesus.

bad service and cold food. i visited this restaurant on vacation in indianapolis with friends. the wait time was terribly long and the restaurant was not busy at all. thefoodcame out at a medium temperature and our glasses sat empty most of the night until we were able to flag a waiter down and interrupt his conversation with other waitstaff. i did speak with the owner who i felt thought he was above speaking with me and did not get any resolution on my concerns. we paid for our meal in full, although mostly unedible, and left. i recommend trying mesh on mass avenue instead of this place. we went there the next night and had a memorable experience.

marco's is wonderful!. from the atmosphere to the service and food, everything about marco's is just perfect! they have a nice selection offoodand the wait staff was most helpful in helping me choose an item.

i will definitely go back and recommend the restaurant to anyone! it is a must!

i love love love this place, thefoodis delicious the staff is awesome. the only thing i would like to see them change is the decor an the main entry way other than that i recommend this restaurant to friends & family.

terrible new ownership, service, and food. i went to marco's for the first time since the new ownership last night. the waitstaff was terrible and walked by my table several times to attend to a larger party. that party was very loud and obnoxious and disturbing a few of the other tables around my party also. finally, someone came to the table and took a drink order but returned about 5 min. later and had forgotten what we ordered to drink. when they brought the drinks, we were ready to order but they turned to another table to help them first. they came back about 5 min. later and took or order. we didn't get bread for about 10 min. after that and thefoodarrived about 30 min. later. in between, no one refilled our drinks or even came to our table. thefoodwas just ok and of course, part of it was wrong. i asked for the manager and was told that the owner was there but was at the large table that was being disruptive. it was a terrible experience all around and i will never go back. i have friends who had warned me about going back since the changes but i tried it for myself and would have to agree. don't waste your money!

my birthday dinner - great time!. some good friends of mine wanted to celebrate my birthday by going out to eat at an indy restaurant. the place was my choice. i didn't hesitate: marco's!

i've eaten at marco's more than any other restaurant except, perhaps, bazbeaux pizza downtown.

thefoodwas delicious...everyone enjoyed their meals except one person who ordered a fish special.

i especially enjoy marco's steaks, cooked to perfection. most of the main dishes come with soup, salad, bread, and the main dish. (so be careful and don't overdo it on the bread.)

our server was very personable and provided excellent service despite having to make several drink runs. fortunately i've never been served by the nasty hostess that several reviewers on various websites mention. =)

it's true that the best night for a bargain is tuesday night, cheap meat night. but for any other night i don't mind paying a little more for quality food, great service, and a good time.

i should add that i always ask for the lounge. one time we had to eat in the dining room and it wasn't nearly as much fun.

special!. it's all about the tuesday night $9.99 filet special! i've gone other nights and ordered other things, but if it weren't for the special this place would tank. overpriced mediocrefoodisn't the way to go. it was good at best. i'd go back 1000 tuesdays though if the hostess wasn't so vile to some friends of mine. keep your judgement to yourself, they came in to spend a couple hundred dollars, but left after one drink due to her sniping. she's lost them plenty of business, but i don't think she cares. i'd complain to the owner, but i think it's her. oh well, her loss.
