after hearing so manygreatreviews of this place, i was excited to try it for myself. i had high expectations and unfortunately was a bit disappointed.

i ordered the big bay breakfast, which was a pretty sizable plate but there was nothing extraordinary about it. nothing that couldn't be made at home. my poached egg was also a bit overdone so i didn't get that nice yolk pop :(

my boyfriend wasn't too impressed with his eggs benedict either. small serving, very little presentation to it, and the salmon was rather dry.

coffee wasn't as bad as other places but also wasn't that good either.

the venue is beautiful though, with brilliant views over lyall bay. i'm not sure its worth another trip just for the view though.

went a while ago and thought i had reviewed this place. went on a weekday breakfast. it was busy but well worth the wait. cabinet food lookedgreattoo.

what a shame as it hasgreatpotential and a cool fit out with view over the bay but let down by the time it took to get our food. very busy but it took 45 minutes for breakfast to be served. it wasn’t just us i was looking at the kitchen and there was a period of 15 minutes in where no good came out. eggs benedict was good, eggs cooked well but served on boring toast and hollondaise just average. no waters topped up from the waiters either... plenty better places to go to

went here with my little one and partner. quite a variety of delicious food accompanied bygreatviews and friendly service. loved how it was child friendly. will definitely come back

we arrived off the plane and headed straight there for lunch.

lovely friendly people and food fantastic.

the decor is quirky and casual with agreatview if you’re lucky enough to get a seat by the window.

had a superb spicy chai turmeric latte.

well worth a go.

we took auckland friends there and they were most impressed we even knew about it.

my new favourite brunch stop! a beautiful view of lyall bay, delicious food and friendly service not much else you can ask for! the coffees weregreatas well and as an added bonus the songs they were playing was great! super fun place with a lovely vibe to it. also really well priced

only visited once but i was not disappointed by the food. i went for a brunch and had agreattime, service was pretty fast considering how full the place was but none the less i was happy. took a little while to be seated and then to pay but the food made up for it.

the maranui cafe is a wellington iconic cafe, a must visit when you are in welly. located right on lyall bay above the legendary maranui surf lifesaving club and it is home to beach goers and the locals.

this place has been packed every time i've visited so plan accordingly. we ordered several different items from the breakfast menu. my son and grandkids were on the beach so we order take away for them. smoothies, fries, and avocado & tomatoes on 5 grain toast. for inside we ordered a big bay breakfast, then fresh free range eggs on sour dough, fries, and kransky sausages and a muranui muesli. the take away order came in a reasonable amount of time but the inside order dragged on. our waiter forgot our coffees... people without coffee become problematic. he was a good sport and gave us our coffee but the order took all of 45 min to arrive. our food was good but nothing one might wake up dreaming about for breakfast. recommend this as agreatplace to stop mainly due to views of the bay, and quality of the food.

the only thing wrong with this place is the noise! aside from that - this is agreatplace for a casual brunch with friends, and has excellent menu options and service.

maranui cafe has got to be one of my favourite cafes in wellington. so well priced and suchgreatserving sizes. the service wasgreatthey the food came faster than they aid it would. i ordered the victory breakfast which absolutely amazing but extremely big so didn't need to eat for a long time afterwards! the views are beautiful and the atmosphere is really lovely. the cabinet food all looked really nice as well, i will definitely be coming back there are so many things on the menu that i was to try!

maranui is one of the few cafes in lyall bay so when we wandered in at around 1pm on a saturday, the massive line was no surprise.

the cafe is quite small but has an amazing view of the beach, i can imagine it being even busier in summer! we were told the wait for food would be about 40 mins, so we order a vege sandwich from the cabinet and some fries on the side (which were massive, sogreatvalue).

however, it was the service which was below par. i found the staff to be kind of rude! when asked if we wanted drinks we just asked if we could have water, to which we were bluntly told to go get ourselves...i understand it was busy but if it makes the customer happy, just go and get it. then when we were eating our food another waitress came over and again bluntly asked if we were done and could take our menus, which we had to pass over mid-mouthful. she could've been a lot more polite about this and made all of us feel uncomfortable!

i would return on a quieter day as the menu did look really nice, hopefully the staff are more friendly next time round.

came in this morning with my mum for breakfast. had the muesli which was awesome, especially with the poached tamarillo. mum had eggs and spinach on sourdough, all cooked well - generous portions compared to some cafes. overall really yummy food, coffee was good, staff friendly and helpful.greatplace and atmosphere - amazing view. will definitely be back! was also nice to come on a monday as it meant we were able to get a seat without the massive wait!
