no question, this place is hip & cool. i like the scene & the latte (definitely not the house coffee) are good. thing is the food & the service are, frankly terrible. i've had burned pancakes & scorched bacon. and even though the servers are hot, they don't seem at all interested in serving. sorry. it's 2 blocks from my house, but not worth the walk, the long wait, or the high prices.

i have to be honest… like this place, but i don’t love it. it’s not a place i necessarily crave, but i don’t mind eating there, mostly because there’s not really anywhere else to eat in our neighborhood and it’s good just not great (but alot of people really love it, don’t get me wrong).

slam dunk as far as breakfast is concerned. my omelet was fantastic, and the fried potatoes that came on the side where perfect. my one and only complaint was my toast. sourdough was a very dark brown and was incredibly difficult to eat. if you are looking for a small charming place in a big city to enjoy breakfast with neighborhood locals, this is your spot

reminds me of the "come as you are but bring cash" spots in richmond that i like. a no nonsense menu with interesting specials and that dayglow fresh oj are sure signs of good food at a blue-collar price. what more is there to say? the breakfasts we ordered were just great. he got a crabcake benedict which he descriped as "excellent." my typical bacon, eggs, etc was not greasy and everything was hot. the server was prompt with refills and the check. it's good to know that there is a little piece of richmond in the bay area.

this is such a local (and wonderful) institution that you kind of hate it when the new york times, in their 72 hour guide to oakland, lists it as a place not to be missed! i, personally, never come here on the weekend unless i can get here right when they open because i hate waiting that long. luckily, they are one of the few east bay breakfast spots that are open on mondays. in my opinion, their home fries are the best anywhere - just the right combination of crunch & smooth, and great seasoning, if sometimes a bit too salty. i love their omelettes - fluffy with generous amounts of filling, great blueberry muffins and, one of my favorites, the veggie jo. gotta go, my food's here and getting cold!

1. mama royales. its hip, its cool, the line is long. this seems to be a theme for all my fave restaurants. darn urban area. 2. the coffee mill . this is no frill fare people. you aren’t going to get a pureed cauliflower with organic, free-range, smoked a
