amazing food!!

we made an impulse decision and a last minute booking on friday night for dinner and we were so pleased that we did!

we finally tried the crab curry at mamak tandoori house and it was terrific - the flavours were sensational! it was incredibly messy to eat - but fun! the fried okra was delicious too!

outstanding!!  sensational!!
as lovers of spicy indian andmalaysianfood, we came here expecting to be disappointed. we ordered a mysore masala dosa (basically a traditional masala dosa smeared with a extra chilli tomato paste) and a lamb roti murtabak which came with a bowl of fragrant lamb & chicken coconut curry. the food was sensational!! the flavours were authentic and everything tasted like it had been freshly made from scratch (instead of the usual commercial curry paste/sauces). the dosa and the murtabak was as good as or probably even better than anything we've eaten in india or malaysia!! we'll definitely be back to try some things!

be warned though - with food this good, this small restaurant is very popular. you really need to make a booking and be prepared to wait!!

it came highly recommended, and fully lived up to expectations. mamak tandoori house in camp hill delivers the goods when it comes to indianmalaysiancuisine. the only people i wouldn't recommend it to are those who can't take heat/spice.

we had the opportunity to visit with somemalaysianfriends and ordered:
* fish malabar, $20 - mackerel fish food cooked in south india style with coconut milk
* ayam masak merah, $17.50 - chicken cooked with tomato, onion, fresh chilli, lemongrass sauce with almond and coconut cream
* hyderabadi biryani, $18.50 - tender lamb marinated overnight with biryani spices and cooked with basmati rice in a clay pot hyderabadi style
* fried okra, $15.95 - stir-fry okra with turmeric, onion and red chilli
* cheese & garlic naans, $5
* cheese & spinach naan, $5
* plain naan, $3.50
* basmati rice, $3

total bill $93.45 for 4 adults and 1 child, which was pretty decent given we ended up having a fair bit of food and all of it was quite moreish. we picked dishes based on recommendations from people in the malaysians in brisbane fb group, so i think we were pretty well guaranteed of a good time. i would totally order any of these dishes again, but particularly enjoyed the curries and the fried okra. i grew up eating okra cooked a certain way, and have never had it this way. it was eye-openingly good!

will definitely have to return again, hopefully next time on a weekend so i can avail myself of their roti canai and murtabak, which were also highly recommended items.

be aware that mamak's spicy dishes only come in medium or hot, so if you're someone who can't take heat like my son, you might end up mostly only eating naan and rice. so i'll have to find some other company next time to explore more of their range.

lovely people and very accommodating. not the most comfortable ambience for dining in during winter, so i would recommend getting takeaway instead, but seriously, the best and most authenticmalaysianindian food in brisbane. must try!

thismalaysianindian eatery is impressive when one sees the constant crowds dining here. seating myself as the lone waiter is run off his feet, i see that every diner here is indian. say no more!

i ask for the roti canai with curry chicken. this piping hot roti is fabulous, crispy outside and soft chewy inside. the chicken curry is fragrant with a multitude of spices and i recognise the familiar taste of baba curry powder. i rate this meal a 5!

authentic deliciousmalaysianindian food and prices are reasonable. however, the tiny dining area is tight, there is no air conditioning despite the summer heat and the complimentary water is warm. if one can look past these negatives, bon appetit!

literally, the best indian restaurant in town, or specifically, the bestmalaysianindian restaurant in town. historically, in brisbane, it has been rather challenging to find authentic indian food. i think i can think of only two other places that come close. i believe i've tried almost everything on the menu and nothing will disappoint you. the murtabak is a must try. the goat curry is simply sensational. their spicy crab curry is simply delicious. i usually include photos with my reviews but i think i have too many photos of all their dishes. attached is a picture of their dosa and murtabak, one of my all time sunday brekky faves. the family who own the restaurant are very hospitable and friendly. you can tell that this is their passion and it is evident in their dishes.

we come here regularly. it's better to make a table reservation before you go, the place is quite small and they are very busy all the time. usually only one person at the counter doing take away, cashier, waiter and cleaning up job, but service not too slow. we love love love love their goat curry. it's a must whenever we eat here, the best in brisbane! naan is amazing too! roti and dosa during weekend lunch hours are very delicious too! i once spoke to the lovely lady boss, they make their own curry paste, thus the quality is guaranteed! authenticmalaysianindian food! yum!

good food - but not authenticmalaysianindian.. one of the better indian restaurants that i've been to in brisbane. if we want to eat indian, this is the restaurant we visit.
having said that, it is however notmalaysianindian at all.malaysianindian cuisine is fairly different. (n/b i was born in malaysia and familiar with the cuisine). i asked, and apparently one of the cooks (originated from india) has worked in malaysia for a couple of years in the past.

on a separate note, one of the best indian restaurants that i've been to recently is india's restaurant (http://www.indiasrestaurant.net/) .... its a bit far tho' if you live in brisbane.

ordered 3malaysianstyle curries and they were all brilliant. tasted very authentic, full of flavour and perfect amount of spice. we had the randang, adam something or rather and a lamb kapitan - delicious. even the basmati rice and the naan were great.
will def. be back.

our go to place for goodmalaysianindian food. absolutely love their fish curries and paneer. can get a little busy at times during dinner, but definitely worth the wait.

not to mention they do free delivery for orders more than $40

not as authentic as you think. had lunch here on sunday. okay but did not hit the mark. dosa did not have that authentic taste. chicken tandoori was served with sweet chilli sauce (?). being malaysians, we found this to be a very watered down attempt at representingmalaysianfood. very disappointing.

home delivery. ordered home delivery through eat now. first time user of online ordering and also this restaurant. delivery was a bit slow as 40 mins turned out to be 65 mins. ordered 3 dishes one of which was sambal sotong which is the mackeralmalaysianstyle but got the gulai sotong(squid) in error. was happy with the quality of food , spices etc but would have been good to get the correct meal
