•busy at lunch with plenty of seats and service is quick
•seafood laksa - honestly not the best i have had, flavours a bit bland but the soup base was great
•hainanchicken- rice waschickenrice (yummy!) but thechickenwas also a bit bland, the malay place under westpac in north sydney has much betterchickenas a comparison.

this place is top notch.

i ordered achickenlaksa and it was delivered before my friend's order was even taken. the soup was creamy and rich, though not quite decadent. thechickenpieces were fairly succulent, which is fantastic as it is often overcooked in soups. overall, it was a very hearty and satisfying meal. i can't wait to try the skinlesschickenlaksa and their hainanesechickenrice (which, as we all know, is the true measure of a quality establishment - not some tobacco scrounged from saruman's pantry).
in terms of service and ambiance, my friend made a remark that the restaurant looked very legitimately malaysian, especially the chairs, which were particularly authentic. we must accept this judgement as truth for the speaker went to malaysia just last month and is, i believe, a chair expert.
then again, my friend ordered a tap water (which is always room temperature) and remarked that it wasn't cold so ... i'll let you decide what you believe.

also, they kind of wanted to rush us out a bit but if you are served quickly, it's fair enough to leave quickly.

visit this store for a quick and satisfying meal on a busy day!

popped into this place at 1pm today and it was very busy! plenty of seating in the restaurant, however, during the lunch peak there was not a single seat in sight which was a promising sign of how good their food was going to be. i ordered achickenlaksa and it was ready for me shortly after paying for it at the counter. the laksa soup was coconut curry based and was very flavoursome and had the right amount of spice. my partner ordered a mongolian beef with rice and i did not enjoy this dish as much. i highly recommend if you come here to order a laksa! only reason i did not rate this a 5 is due to the lack ofchickenin the soup. besides that it was spot on. reasonably priced as well. would definitely come back in the future.

please note: this restaurant is cash only!

at last we try the famous har mee at malaysian chinese takeaway in hunter street, city. we love the canteen vibe of this place. we thought the menu here wasn't exciting but it's the daily specials are the drawcard for us: monday is tom yum with chicken, prawns, calamari and mushrooms tuesday is har mee - prawn noodle soup wednesday is nasi lemak thursday is lum mee - fish soup with egg noodles, chicken, prawns friday & saturday is har mee we are recent converts to the religion of har mee: prawn noodle soup made with prawn stock, two types of noodles, prawns, pork and whatever. we heard the har mee here is one of the best in town. we liked it though it didn't blow our little minds like the har mee at singapore shiok with it's fresh super prawnie stock. we just love the taste and texture of two types of noodle in one soup. we also tried somechickensatays on the side: big chunks ofchickenwith a very sweet peanut sauce. malaysian chinese takeway has been doing their thing for over 20 y

i've tried thechickenlaksa here a number of times, reputedly one of the best in sydney. other dishes that i have tried include thechickennoodle soup. thechickenlaksa was quite good with a nice and creamy soup base which was extremely flavoursome. of course it was a little greasy and oily but that's almost expected in laksas. the noodles were fresh and thechickenportions were generous and had a soft texture.

the service was more along the lines of a quick turnaround outlet but still more than acceptable. the setting is quite basic but that is basically in keeping with the character of the place. prices are reasonable and it's one of the best places forchickenlaksa in sydney as far as i'm aware.

use to be one of the better laksa places in cbd and the lines every lunch time testify to that however recently i find the laksa soup to be lacking, not as spicy as before and loses some of its taste.

still a decent joint but not as great as before, recommend thechickenlaksa if youre hungry and looking for a feed.

my go-to choice is the classicchickenand prawn laksa ($12.7). the broth had a promisingly creamy appearance, its surface dappled with a slick of bright red chilli oil. admittedly, this wasn’t as punchy as i had hoped; i’m not quite sure what’s missing, as the balance between the complex medley of spices and the sweet creaminess of the coconut milk was note-perfect, and thechickenwas admirably tender. it was certainly a great bowl of noodles that i would be happy to have any day, though i wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s my favourite like many people do.

the har mee is amazing! rich and tasty in flavour, and always quickly served. the hainanchickenrice is good too.
try to avoid the peak hours, as it gets very hectic and crowded.

we had the skinlesschickenlaksa and sing chao mai, the dishes came out super fast!

the laksa had a really nice deep flavoured broth without being overly oily or heavy, thechickenwas very moist and soft to eat, i highly recommend extra tofu as the sponge texture absorbs the broth very well! the noodles were great, they are thin noodles but still keep their texture and don't get soggy.

the sing chao mai was full of wok hei flavour, it was very and i loved the savoury bean sprout flavour in it.

the complementary mandarins go down very well at the end of the meal.

the place was clean and the staff were all friendly, i will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes!

finally some great laksa. the laksa had a very rich flavour in the broth (could still have been spicier and i hope that isn’t connected to the sign they put up complaining about chilli prices) and the ingredients seemed much better quality than i’ve been seeing in other recommended laksa places - like wonderfully tenderchickenthat soaked up the broth. note i also got some takeaway rendang that turned out pretty bland so my review is on the basis on the laksa alone.

have been coming here since i was a kid, and even remember sitting next to neil perry and thinking how good the food must be to have chefs like him come around. the food is absolutely amazing - in my opinion, the best malaysian in sydney! their laksa truly is the best in sydney and, dare i say it, the best in australia. truly a must try - theirchickenrice and laksa are the two dishes you must have! situated in the city, it's a short walk from wynyard and it sure is worth it.

4 star for its price. we orderedchickenlaska and seafood laska, and the taste was alright. the coconut flavour isn't that rich. not really impressed.
