best laksa in sydney? probably. this is a long overdue blog post, i have been on numerous occassions and photographed it but for some reason pics seem to go mia. so here we go. best laksa and they sell other malaysian dishes too (but i haven’t tried anything else). when the laksa is this good… these people are in the know and this place is alwasy, always like this. packed and that guy at the right is in the queue. there’s always a queue here. that’s how loved mc is. also note the ridiculous bibs some people are wearing. you can buy them for about 20 cents if you aren’t confident about eating the laksa without staining your shirts. cute. the venue isn’t flash. largish bowl of malay chinese laksa. its a bit of a challenge to get to the bottom of the bowl. everytime i post about mc on instagram, people comment that they can never finish a bowl. generous serve of skinless chicken and tofu in there. its yummy good. skinless chicken laksa. with their chilli. malay chinese is located at 58 hu

despite what we all believe, you can actually still find cheap eats in the heart of the sydney cbd when you are in need of a decent meal for your lunch break. one of the most popular, tastiest and cheapest places to eat in the sydney is malay chinese takeaway - often declared by foodies and laksa fans everywhere as having the best laksa in sydney. i'm not much of a laksa expert but at the time it was a cold day and this eatery is quite close to work so why not? malay chinese takeaway is located on hunter street (next door to frankie's pizza) where crowds of corporate workers rush in for their quick feed in the peak hour of the weekday lunch. if you go at any other time of the weekday (before 12pm and after about 2pm) or all day on saturday then it should be much more quiet. thankfully, the queue moves quickly and after making your order, the service is incredibly fast too. in a mere few minutes after ordering, a full bowl of laksa is already on your hands. the trouble is actually findi

whilst i’m not sure whether this place has the “best laksa in sydney”, malay-chinese takeaway’s laksa was worth the hype and i’d definitely come back for another bowl.

if you have the flu you know what to do get some laksa into you! ( at hunter malay chinese ) i favour the vegetable laksa with extra tofu (and a bib to save your shirt). easily less than $10 for a meal that will set you right & bust that head cold. add extra chillies in oil for added efficacy. if going for lunch go either at 12 noon or after 1.30pm unless you love to queue. hunter malay chinese 1/50-58 hunter st, sydney nsw 2000 (02) 9231 6788

it's the best laksa i've had so far. it's tasty but not really heavy. the only problem is hard to find a seat during 12:00~1:30. very popular place for lunch.

a special of the day i ordered at another time was the asam laksa (or assam). this type is not commonly found in western countries but there should totally be more exposure here. it’s made with sour fish sauce (the sour part comes from the addition of tamarind). common ingredients are shredded fish/seafood, meats, and thinly sliced veggies. it’s vastly different to the common penang laksa (above) as the soup is so different.

some people dislike asam laksa due to the fishiness, so to determine whether you’ll like it or not…take a whiff of fish sauce and see how you fare.

delicious, reasonably priced. the char kway teow is incredible- no ambiance but if you want a good, filling feed i recommend it

delicious laksa. don't expect much in terms of service/ambience (non-existent table service - you order at the counter and bring your bowl away like in a food court, and the place is quite old/worn looking), but the laksa is really great! i recommend the prawn and chicken one ~ so yummy and good value, will come back! :)

although you might be seduced by the tantalising stir fries and curries in the hot box, i suggest you order one of their in famous soups. you can choose between vegetarian or a range of meats. my favourite is the king prawn with tofu. the soups are huge, generously served and messy!

the laksa i've been looking for .... i've been eating laksa in sydney since the 1970s when the malaya was a one-room joint with laminex tables on george st where we used to go for sunday lunch to burn off our hangovers. i've chased good laksas all over town, i've crossed the harbour in search of them, i've trailed through the inner west and all over inner sydney. and i've gotta say, the laksa at this place is the best i've eaten. the chicken is generous, the broth is rich and complex and spicy enough to raise a sweat without laying you out. sure it's crowded, but that's because everyone knows it's so damn good. i've eaten there a dozen times and the quality of the laksa does vary ... from delicious to absolutely superb. i haven't tried the other items on the menu: every time i go there i front the counter intending to say "char kway teow" or "kapitan chicken", but when the moment of truth arrives ... it's laksa every time!

best laksa i have had!. i love this place! it seems everyone does because it is always absolutely packed. despite this, they are very quicky. the king prawn and chicken laksa are my favourite, mighte even be the best i have ever had and i have tried lots. good cheap lunch option, easy to get a seat if you are by yourself, might be tricky if you are with a group.

i started off slurping a spoonful of the hot soup - oh, this is fantastic! the mild curry coconut based soup has the right consistency and level of spice. unlike most places that serve laksa, the restaurants tend to reduce the spice level to cater for the local palate but malay-chinese takeaway has obviously decided to keep it the way it should be. this is the best laksa i've had to date and i have no doubts that it's probably the best in sydney. my chicken laksa came with a generous serving of rice vermicelli, a few pieces of fried bean curd and slices of boneless steamed chicken with skin on (i would probably have the skinless chicken option next time round - i'm not a big fan of steamed chicken skin). the laksa was actually quite a large serving but it was so good that i finished the whole thing!

the famous chicken laksa is dished out from the kitchen like clock-work because it is easily the most popular item on the menu.

rice vermicelli is mixed with slivers of chicken, fishcake and deep-fried tofu puffs in a bowl of spicy broth. the noodles are tasty with a few spoonful of the gritty broth that is not overly thick. its flavour and viscosity are spot on with the right level of chilli, spices and coconut milk. apart from my favourite laksa, this one is pretty darn good.
