you would be mad!. i went for my birthday. very disappointing. in particular the finger sandwiches. they were dry and curled up. when i complained to the manager he did not apologies but offered the assurance that they had been made that morning, at £35 a head i think they should me made fresh to order! i suggested that they ought to invest in cling film or foil if they had to make them ahead of time. he thanked me and moved on. i'd given the perfect opportunity for them to reduce the bill, but no. the service is polite with stuck on smiles but they really couldn't give a hoot. i even emailed the hotel but received no reply. i've had tea in so many better places in central london. themadhatters tea at the sanderson, give it a miss!

if you’re not a) a woman or b) planning a hen night you probably stopped reading this at the headline. themadhatter’s afternoon tea at the sanderson is largely full of groups of ladies dressed up to the nines with silk sashes draped across their bodies, or wearing silly things on their heads. we did spot the odd regular couple scattered amongst them, in fact we sat next to one so ade and i weren’t alone. although being a keen people watcher and more in touch with his feminine side than the average man, ade was in his element. i think he wanted to swap me for a hen party instead, it wouldn’t be the first time.

themadhatters afternoon tea was great but there are definitely better themed-afternoon tea options in london. i feel they could have added more to the alice in wonderland/mad hatter theme in the dishes and decor. nonetheless the home blended teas were great! i had the mint chocolate chip and the strawberries and cream, both had a perfectly mild flavour. the desserts were great too! personally for me, the sandwiches lacked the 'fancy' feel. pretty basic variety of sandwiches.

i've always wanted to try themadhatter afternoon tea ever since i saw this. and although the experience was great, i wouldn't consider it to be the best afternoon tea i've ever had. the food was filling, really quaint and aesthetically pleasing. but some of the food was too sweet or generally they weren't too memorable. the cocktail was delicious though and the tea was delightful.

on first arrival to the hotel it was abit scary as it was so fancy & you automatically feel out of place but when seated in themadhatters tea garden the atmosphere was so relaxing & beautiful. food was amazing, odd flavour combinations but all work, even ordered extra. try the martini if you want to top it all off. couldn't recommend this place enough! defiantly a must do.

having always been obsessed with alice in wonderland and all the craziness that goes with it, i couldn't have been more pleased that my friends decided to treat me to themadhatter's tea at the sanderson for my birthday-finally! i can be alice, i'll get a potion that says' drink me' and i'll eat -anyway, just to say i was so excited about it...but sadly i was a little disappointed- i'm pretty sure alice's tea party tasted better, and she didn't pay 70 pounds for it. i think that with this place, it just looks pretty-everything you eat looks pretty, but i just wish it was a little prettier tasting. for the price we payed, i would have expected to be served the equivalent of gourmet-tasting sandwiches, fresh scones, pastries made with the finest chocolate.. i don't know.. something that would have made my experience more memorable than just the endless pictures i took of the food presentation. i thought everything tasted slightly artificial... it's like when you eat something and you're looking for something more-is it missing salt? is it too sweet?- that kind of feeling. but, as i said, when it comes to the presentation and the atmosphere-i have to give them a thumbs up. if i would go back, or take a true foodie with me? no. if you have high expectations when you're expecting to pay a high price, this isn't the place. but if you want to sit in a nice terrace, have pretty cups and food set on your table, and pretend you're in wonderland before taking a bite, then ok, try it out! it's fun. it's just the bill didn't make it fun for me- i don't mind paying high, but it has to, has to be good-really good.

opinions about this tea party seem quite divided; honestly, it would be brilliant if they up'd the food.  it's a nice experience where the theme, at least, is perfectly evident, but not worth the price.

a place i've been wanting to try for a long time purely for the "alice in the wonderland" theme of it. and in terms of the theme, it definitely provides what it promises. situated in the middle of the sanderson hotel in a very zen and garden-like environment, very cohesive with the alice theme. the tea set arrives and all the little cakes and desserts is very thoughtfully catered around the theme, with little bottles that says "drink me" on it and sugar cubes thats placed in a little music box.

the novelty of jumping down the rabbit hole into alice's wonderland wears thin however, as the price we pay for this "tea party" was not worth it in my opinion, as it is basically finger sandwiches with a few props thrown upon it. the ambience and surrounding is immaculate and service is absolutely amazing, very attentive and friendly. and if that is what you're predominately looking for the sanderson definitely provides that. however, if you're purely looking for a place with good afternoon teas, there are many more places around london that serves just that with half the price. if you come to thismadhatters tea party, you're paying for the theme not the food. the theme itself it brilliantly executed. the food could be somewhat improved.

down the rabbit hole we went as we ventured through the doors of the sanderson hotel into a modern reception with cushiony lips as a seating option. i had decided to take my mum somewhere interesting to celebrate her birthday and thought that themadhatter’s tea party would be the perfect bit of fun.

after asking for directions, we were led onto a very zen-like courtyard, a place you wouldn’t attribute to hosting an afternoon tea with such a title, but it had a charming atmosphere and heaters to keep us warm out in the open in february. a pleasantly helpful waitress handed each of us a hardback copy of alice in wonderland, inside of which was the menu detailing the colourful treats that would be laid out in front of us. we were first asked to choose from a selection of teas such as mint chocolate chip, apple pie and rhubarb and custard. the pots are unlimited and you can try all the flavours if you want to. we settled on the rhubarb and mint ones. they were served to us in porcelain pots sporting paper crowns and the faces of the king and queen of hearts on the sides.

wearing our royal hats as though it were christmas, we sipped on the deliciously sweet tea and awaited the food. it wasn’t long before a stack of cakes, pastries and sandwiches was presented to us on a three tiered dessert stand. the portions are more than generous for two and fill you up very quickly but you can’t help but try them all. the food is decorated to tie in with the theme and you will get to sample chocolate tea cups, marshmallow mushrooms, ‘tick tock’ victoria sponge and rainbow cheesecake to name a few. the savoury options were also pleasing and varied. accompanying the sweets were delightful little passion fruit potions with a tag that read ‘drink me’. after gorging ourselves, we declined the offer of seconds before they would have to roll us out of there like tweedledum and tweedledee

the food and design of the tableware do well to feed into the world of the lewis carroll novel and i definitely recommend it if you have a sweet tooth. it’s a little pricey for lunch but you pay for the experience. there’s also an option to add champagne for £48pp, making it great for a special occasion but not somewhere you will visit again in a hurry.

my birthday was coming up, and i had been nagging my other half to take me to tea to celebrate. there's something so delightfully british and quaint about afternoon tea, don't you think?
j booked themadhatters tea party, which is an alice in wonderland themed tea in the sanderson hotel. first impressions were a bit dodgy, as the hotel was undergoing refurb and there was scaffolding and a temporary entrance outside, but once in we were shown through to the beautiful greenhouse area. the table decor is insanely cute - plates and napkins lining up form aiw clocks and pictures, and a gorgeous tea set in the middle. i plumped for rhubarb and custard, one of my favourite flavour combos and as it turns out, exquisite as a tea.
from there, the treats are brought out on a stunning layered tea stand. the sandwiches were fine, nothing special, but the cakes were excellent - gooey, melt in the middle ganache, an edible tea cup and carrots, a 'drink me' potion and other delights. the tea finished with jelly, which i was slightly disappointed with - it was a serve-youself buffet and the flavours didn't pack a punch.
still, all in all it was a magical experience, definitely one for a special occasion as its pricey but worth it for the pure child-like joy it brings.

themadhatters tea is the afternoon tea offering from the sanderson hotel and it’s one afternoon tea i have always wanted to try but never had, so when i was invited by the sanderson to ‘tumble down the rabbit hole’ there was a resounding yes from me. the theme of the afternoon tea is based around amadhatters tea party and has been created by the sanderson and shoreditch based design collective luna & curious to create a fun experience. we were seated in the courtyard area which was great to be outside as it was a lovely sunny day last week. the courtyard currently has a marquee around it, to stop any pesky rain showers or wind ruining your tea in the unpredictable british weather. the first thing i noticed was the lovely crockery, the plates were decorated with zebras, birdcages and ticking clocks and the menu was hidden inside the book on the table. it includes the main afternoon te

wow! being a tea person finding this place was an absolute bliss. the ambiance, food and drinks are by far excellent. the pear and elderflower bellini, marshmallow mushrooms and themadhatters pink champagne tea are a must try. sadly there's no such place in india.

after our champagne, we were presented with small perfume bottles of novelties tea leaves to sniff before we pick one: rhubarb & custard, chocolate & mint, apple pie and strawberry & cream. they all smelt incredibly sweet and had strong resemblance to the desserts.  then we kicked off our fancy wonderland hour...madhatter's afternoon tea savoury smoked cumbrian ham with wh

themadhatter's tea in alice in wonderland. to turn the clock into a super cute cake and to turn the scene into an anything but traditional afternoon tea. sanderson hotel projects a design feel from every corner, a modern 5 star luxury hotel. you can't help but take photos like a tourist, you can't help but be girly and sit on the giant lip couch, and wish you had dressed for the occasion at a bar so sexy and trendy only those attractive should visit. it's a place to bring a date, to impress her/him of your knowledge of london. afternoon tea rather than the traditional scene where classical music is played live in a grand hotel lobby, sanderson aimed something different. a beautiful courtyard garden protected by th
