mediocre. we went to luna del sea for baltimore restaurant week and don't think that the food we got was worth the $30 we paid for the three courses. the service was decent but we got our entrees before we were finished eating half our salads. one of us got the ny strip and it wasn't cooked to order and was very dry. the baked potato was average. just a baked potato. the other got a chicken dish that was pretty good but the goat cheese on top was way out of place so it got pushed to the side. we were very pumped about dessert, but they only had one piece of chocolate cheesecake left. the piece we had was delicious though. we got a piece of the oreo cheesecake for the other dessert and it was very disappointing. it tasted like it was taken from a box, though the server said they make the desserts there. overall it was an ok experience. the location is convenient and the atmosphere quaint. the food is mediocre and the service about the same.

avoid this place!. my friend was visiting from chicago and had asked that we get seafood in baltimore. the hotel attendant suggessted luna del sea. we walked over and fell in love with the quaint atmosphere and the food smelled delicious. we were fooled. after standing there (restaurant was empty) for 10 minutes we were finally greeted and asked to have a seat at the bar while they cleared a table for us. we waited 20 minutes and had to listen to the servers complain about having to clear our table. we were finally seated about 3 inches away from another party of 2. we looked past all of this because we were starving and excited for seafood. i ordered the blackened rockfish and my friend ordered the scallop/shrimp/mussel pasta. my fish was so dry that i only ate one bite. i ordered the saffron rice on the side and it was mushy and overcooked with absolutely no taste. my friend's scallops were rubbery. we both stopped eating, finished our bottle of wine and waited for the server to clear our table. he never once asked if there was something wrong or why we hadn't eaten our food. our bill was just over $130 and we ended up leaving and ordering a pizza. very disappointed. i would not recommend this food to anyone. its unfortunate, they have a great location, but horrible food.

mediocre food, slow service and ridiculous prices. i made the mistake of not asking the market price for single portion of lobster tails and crab imperial and was shocked by the $75 bill. come on at least warn your guests.

clipped. my large out of town group felt ripped off by this place. service was fine, but the food was bad (as in sub-long john silver's bad) and the prices were astronomical for what was served

better than you would think from these reviews. down in baltimore with a group of 13 that travelled from all over, and the organizer had this rest. picked based on a recommendation from the marriott inner harbor at camden yards. we are a group used to eating well when together and the reviews suggested we would not be happy.

our coordinator (who brings tremendous amount of group business to marriotts all over)reviewed the reviews with the concierge and let him know we could not understand the pick. concierge actually went to luna to let him know our fears and expectations, as well as the report book would affect future referals. the concierge went a second time, to introduce us to the manager. stakes were very high for the restaurant. on to the review.

setting - it was game night and game had started. rest was pretty empty and we were led through to a back room which could hold many more people but tonight was just hours. very comfortable, brick walls, a painting of whos who in baltimore history, wine racks, and some hookas. lighting was mainly from large chandeliers, quite nice.

wait staff, was impeccable, polite, helpful and hospitable. very pleasant throughout the whole evening. appetizers were described and orders taken. appetizers were brought out and dinner orders taken (as we requested). appetizers came in with about a 10 -12 minute spread. a bit long.

i had the seafood bisque with shrimp and scallops. one of the best bisques i have ever had, maybe second only to mortons' lobster bisque. i can say no more about this wonderful soup. from a service perspective, spoons were delvered shortly after the soup leading me to want to ask the waiter to taste the soup. service would have been up a notch if the proper eating utensils were laid out while the appetizers were being prepared. one friend had clams casino which were perferct and there were various appetizers enjoyed throughout our group. one colleague had a shrimp cocktail that did not smell quite right. sent it back and it was replaced about 7 minutes later. another colleague ordered a stuffed portobello. unfortunately friend is a vegetarian and we do not think it mentions that on the menu. should have taken for granted there would be crab meat. only other faux pax on apps is that some people received salads before their entrees.

on to the entrees, starting with mine, of course. i am old and have eaten italian food everywhere. my chicken francaise was on par with the best i ever had anywhere, end of story. chicken was sliced thin and pounded. dredged in egg with light seasoned breadcrumbs and fried in olive oil hot enough to crisp the breadcrumbs in same time it took to cook the chicken so it was still soft and flavorful. the lemon sauce was better than any i ever made, and cannot remember it's match. i was not interested in the side potato or vegetables and ordered a side of linguine alfredo which was tasty.

around the table people had various pasta and seafood dishes along with a few steak and seafood combos.. steak reported as good. grilled seafood in general ok to good, crabcakes as absolutely wonderful.

expectation and style can be everything. one of our diners, eating lots of stuff parmigianed over the years, had ordered the shrimp parm over pasta. lots of ny, nj and ct people at the table and we all would have expected the shrimp to have been breaded and fried, possibly butterflied. to us, the only style of shrimp parm. shrimp were not breaded and fried, may have been boiled or broiled without seasoning, covered with a very thin, translucent melted cheese, and placed on the pasta with tomato sauce. report is the shrimp were not tasty or appetizing which i would chalk up to style expectations as the diner said the sauce and pasta was delicious, and he ate all of that. none of us would recommend ordering the shrimp parmigian.

from a service perspective, wait staff was again excellent, friendly and helpful. entrees were brought out very quickly and many were served before there was time to finish the appetizers and salads. can be chocked up to appetizers coming out over a long time period and an eagerness to please us from a time perspective. a mild inconvenience at worst.

desserts, about 9 cheesecakes, were offered as display and described to the diners by the waiter, who managed to remember which were which, a very tough job. dessert and coffe/cordial order taken and delivered. i had asked for a hot chocolate and waiter suggested baileys. he was right so far so i agreed. one of the best hot chocolates i did not make.

soup to nuts, as the saying goes, without tip, came to $1103 with the wine and drinks.

have to tell you as a group spending time together, we could have been eating chicken at roys and popeyes and we would have had a great time.
our food and service was top notch though not perfect, but very rare indeed do we get perfection (gramercy tavern did hit that mark in spades). we had a wonderful evening and based on our experience, we would recommend a visit.

when making plans, remember, this was an empty restaurant with few if any other diners. did not see any when we went in (unless they were eating dinner on the outside patio where there were certainly people drinking) or on the way out. i would try this place on an evening you can expect to avoid a crowd. if you do that, i expect you will have a wonderful dining experience.

over priced/ under delivered. my wife and son and i were there this past saturday for dinner and i have to say we were very disappointed. first off for the price we paid and the quality of the food.

our dinner was $198.00 for the rock bass stuff with crab, i had a crab cake and new york strip and my son a hamburger. we also had a $35.00 bottle of wine.

1) the bread was 2 -3 days old. i was not fresh

2) the wine glasses were bought the table with water dripping in and
outside

3) for our cold trio appetizer was $32 plus for a 1⁄2 cup of crab meat,
3 shrimp, 2 small pieces of lobster- this is outrageous this should be no more then $20.00

4) my surf and turf- the broccoli was cold, the crab cake was dry and
way to much breading filler, the new york strip was cook perfect but very
tuff- for $56.00 plus

5) my wife's rock bass was not up to par either, it was smothered in
sauce and over cooked- this was $52.00

6) the waiter never quoted us any prices on any of this and needless
to say when we got the bill we were floored.

7) my sons got $9.00 cheese stick appetizer and a $9.00 hamburger that
also tasted over seasoned and he did not eat.

i will never eat there again or recommend this place to anyone, you are overrated, over priced and under deliver.

very disappointed

i had dinner at luna del sea bistro this past weekend 3/19/11 for my birthday. the food was over price and not worth it at all. i ordered the seafood trio 1 crab cake 2 shrimp and 2 scallops 32.00. when i bit into my fried scallop it was still frozen that right frozen. i sent my entire order back. (they took it off of my bill).

one of my friends ordered the the broil combo and said the crab imperial was awful. my other two friends ordered the shrimp linguini and they didn't like their food either.

i definately would not recommend this resturaunt.

seriously: the good reviews are fakes.. i should have known better than to take a hotel's recommendation for a restaurant with shuttle service. very slow service, though with a smile, the bad bread foretold the sham of pretense that this place indulges in. *extremely* overpriced for this level of food preparation and quality. overcooked lobster, undercooked fish, overcooked steaks. just bad all around. honestly, i felt very ripped off. so far, my eating experiences in baltimore have not been good.

sadly disappointed. this is wandas husband writing this review. i am an italian american, my wife is african american. upon our arrival, we were wisked thru the entire restaurant, past the bathrooms and kitchen, and led to an empty dining room. after we were seated, my wife asked me we why didn't they seat us with everyone else, it wasn't like the place was full? she was right! as we got up to leave, the waitress asked us if it was too cold or if anything else was wrong?! my wife was very upset and i was getting angry. so we walked out! i have to tell everyone, as a combat veteran of oif, i was treated better by complete strangers in a war zone than people in my own country! do not patronize this racist establishment. tony

great food, great atmosphere, great location.. luna del sea is by far one of my favorite places to indulge when downtown! the food is always fresh and cooked just right. the staff is friendly and hardworking, and the setting is very soothing and intimate for one on one time, but also good when you just wanna have a light lunch or a few drinks at the bar with some friends. its also nice location. my family has done it a few times when we take a day trip around the harbor and camden yards, then end it off with dinner at luna del sea since it is right there within walking distance. i would definately reccommned it.
