we met atpeddlarsafter the 2 oceans, i was just a spectator. we had the chicken burger. the menu on zomato is outdated, as it came with cheese and a cranberry jam (i think) - whatever the topping, it was a really good burger. service was good and the ambience quite festive.

i've been topeddlarson two occasions quite recently and have enjoyed both times.

i love how quiet and isolated it is. with multiple seating options which ranges from at the bar, inside or outside at the terrace. yesterday, i visited with a friend and we actually ate main meals. my friend opted for the 500g pork ribs with chips and i had the local burger which came topped with feta, bacon and guacamole. their portions are generous and i was amazed at how succulent my burger was. it was saucy and cooked to perfection, medium rare like i asked. my friend enjoyed his ribs and despite being super hungry, couldn't finish his food.

i quite enjoy their wine list, which has wines from around the constantia region. we opted for the la motte on our first occasion and had the buitenblanc blend yesterday.

this is a wonderful little cafe which not only boasts a good menu with generous portions but has wonderful service.

i went topeddlarstwice in one week. first was for an intimate dinner and the second time was for drinks with friends.

i loved how theres many seating options, whether you want to be in an intimate space, outside or by the bar, everyone is well catered for. on both occasions they waiters were warm and paid attention to detail.

one of their speciality is their wide range of gin&tonic. i would have to go back every week if i want to get through their selection by the end of the year

the food however was abit disappointing, the options are discouraging if you want something more healthy. overall i will definitely go back for drinks soon.

my cousins and i often meet atpeddlarsfor gin as they have a wide variety of local gins. this is the perfect spot in the southern suburbs to meet up with friends and enjoy summer.

i have eaten inside the restaurant and enjoyed the experience too. i thinkpeddlarsis one of the only restaurants that a sophisticated dining restaurant and an area in the back for a more laid back meetup with friends. i prefer being at the back at the bar, enjoying hope on hopkins gin or hendricks gin. yummy.

i love popping in atpeddlars& co.
1. it's just up the road
2. they serve an icy devil's peak lager
3. the local burger wit bacon jam, feta and red onion makes me incredibly happy - always cooked to perfection and served with chips. real chips. really good chips.
service is friendly and, more than often, drop-dead-gorgeous. 😁

food poisoning atpeddlars& co, constantia

on 10 december 2015 my wife and i went topeddlarsrestaurant in constantia with another couple for lunch. i ordered the catch of the day, yellowtail, and an appletiser. after eating about two-thirds of my portion i cut into a section which looked like raw red meat, so i sent it back to the kitchen querying its appearance. it was brought back to me with the message that it was quite normal and that there was nothing wrong with it.

at the end of the meal i began to feel light-headed and when i reached the car park i experienced severe stomach pain and vomited. i was feeling terrible so i asked my wife to drive me home. however, on the way i lost consciousness so she rushed me to a&e at constantiaberg mediclinic where i was given an ecg and put on a drip. after experiencing some very unpleasant symptoms i gradually revived. i was diagnosed with severe food poisoning but was discharged after four hours on condition that i saw my doctor the next day to have my blood pressure checked. apparently it was dangerously low when i arrived at hospital.

while i was still in a&e my wife phonedpeddlarsto warn them not to serve any more people with yellowtail, as it had poisoned me.

the next day my doctor diagnosed the problem as scombroid poisoning which is caused by the consumption of "spoiled" fish which has undergone autolytic changes as a result of improper storage conditions. the cape yellowtail is apparently involved in most local cases.

before leaving hospital i had to pay a substantial bill - almost r2,000, with a subsequent additional charge for blood tests. so while i was still recovering at home my wife went to see the chef at peddlars, brad ball, who expressed concern and agreed to refund my medical costs. she left a copy of the hospital bill with him, along with my banking details. however, when no refund had been received after 10 days i phonedpeddlarsand asked for brad. i was told that he was unavailable. the person i spoke to declined to give me brad's cellphone number but said he would get him to phone me back the next day. it is now a month after the incident and i am still waiting for a phone call and a refund.

we spent a lovely sunday atpeddlarsfor lunch and i was pleasantly surprised. we used to go there all the time a couple of years ago, then they renovated and we stopped going as the food and service went seriously downhill. they have since redone the inside and menu again and it is tons better!
the restaurant looks great and the service was really good. i enjoyed a delicious caprese salad - definitely one of the best i have had. i also ordered a chinchada starter which was done exceptionally well! the rack of ribs with chips is also reqlly delicious, but i think they should work on their chips/fries. they tasted a little old and oily.
they have a kids menu, but you have to ask for it.

it's rugby season at peddlars. they do a 500g rib and heineken draught special.peddlarschips are delicious! crispy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. ribs were a bit too sweet for me ...the basting sauce is super sweet and there's too much of it on the rack. but some people like that sort of thing. sticky, sweet rib lovers should definitely give it a go.

this is the first time i have been topeddlarssince the recent renovations. it was a lovely evening so we sat outside under one of the gas heaters. we had the chicken wings and the nachos. the chicken wings were good but the nachos were underdone with hardly any of the cheese being melted. the menu is a lot less pub meals and more gastropub. we were there on a saturday but it was very quite. it seems to have lost its vibe which is such a pity.
