phenomenal food and drinks. great service and atmosphere. lobster mac n cheese is the best i've ever had. religiously come here whenever visiting the boston area.

after running some early evening errands in salem on friday, we passed the lobster shanty and decided to stop for a bite.

it's hard to find but worth it. we drove from laconia, nh to have lunch at the lobster shanty and while it was a long drive, we will most certainly do it again!!. great food at reasonable prices. the ambience is so unique.....please be sure to use a palm pilot or other mapping device it you are not familiar with salem street layout. our palm pilot took us right there, (but we had to ask someone where it was; like in the alley right across the street from where we parked! ).
loved the lobster claw martini.!

diners drive ins and shanty. after seeing this place on ddd we decided we had to try it. shanty is the right word for this place. however after sitting inside and wondering if we made the right choice, the soup was wonderful, the lobster roll was pretty good and the poutine (fries w gravy) was a bit salty but really good. the lobster martini was also quite interesting but good. this is a place to get a quick bite if your in salem.

super duper!!. after reading reviews we were hesitant, as we were on a tight schedule to get back to boston on a rainy afternoon. skipping out to salem for a drive and to visit the witch museum. are we glad we disregarded the reviews! $10 boiled lobster special! scrumptious, delicious, and cooked to perfection! almost ordered a third lobster to split, lol! the service was quick and courteous, and the place was full of local regulars, and a few fellow tourists.
we will be back! oh yeah, and the draught beer was ice cold and the clam chowder, thick hearty and left me scrapping the sides for the last bits!

i liked it more than i didn't but the cold lobster roll was bland (may be tradition, i had never had one) and service was slow and unattentive :( my husband's brisket reuben was good though.

great place but very slow. waited almost an hour for a burger and some tots. chili very spicy but very good.

lobster shanty workers are unkind and rude. i came with a party of 15 and they made us squeeze into 3 small circular tables. it took 8 minutes to get a coke. the kitchen area is nasty and the food is mediocre. don't reccomend. the word shanty really descibes it

love. my husband and i ate the lobster roll...fantastic! we ate outside and had wonderful service. we talked to the staff and they even made a few suggestions of places to go in salem because we were there such a short time.

not impressed.. we had really been looking forward to checking this place out. service was slow, my husband's lobster mac and cheese was overcooked, and he said the mac itself was only okay. my cole slaw was brown from having sat out for a long time, it really shouldn't have been served and i didn't touch it. we are not picky eaters, but we won't be back again.

great food & service. my parents were visiting and wanted a good seafood meal. we found this place, off the beaten path (which is difficult in salem) and were very happy with the entire experience. the drink selection was great and the food was amazing. i had the lobster risotto which was creamy, with large chunks of lobster in it. others had the fisherman's stew, which was flavorful. if that wasn't enough, the host gave us several recommendations of other good seafood places in the area - both he and the waitress were friendly and attentive. highly recommend this place!

omg delish!!!!! had steamers, chowder, catch of day and hot lobster roll. very good steamers in wine and herbs were show stoppers, chowder very good and creamy missing a few clams, catch of say fresh and oh so yummy but the hot lobster roll was heaven on a toasted roll!!!!! enjoy and worth the stop!

the ne chowder was light on clams but deliciously buttery and full of flavor. the lobster roll was superb, a great mid-line between the mayo and butter versions. the sandwich was overstuffed and had that perfect match between the warm of the toated bun and the coolness of the lobster. yeah, it was $19 but worth every mouth full. the report on the fried clams from my discerning dining campion was "belly-licious". vegan options were also on the menu, which maid all the diners in my party happy and well fed. we found the service very friendly as well as the other local diners. we will back, oh yes we will be back.
