thai sushi is my friend, and so are tables.. the traditional sushi i tried were ok but what really stood out were the crazy ones...like thai sushi with cilantro, mango, peanuts, etc. the drinks were good and left me wanting to take an extended drinking tour of the menu.

their arrangement of space inside does not quite work. when i was last in there was a distinct lack of seating. they could probably get rid of the couch/armchair style seating and fit in some tables. i find it awkward to sit in these "comfy" chairs when i have to lean over a tiny short table to eat. it becomes un-comfy.

too many hand crafted cocktails to make a decision is the worst thing about this place. whiskey flights, cocktails, comfortable seating, and a relaxing atmosphere...could use a ceiling fan for a nice breeze on warmer days...

impressed by the artistry but.... i have yet to really love a drink that i've been served here. i do tend to like the sweeter cocktails and maybe my palate is not 'refined' enough for these artisan drinks. first time i was here i told the bartender that i'm usually a beer drinker and that i like sweeter cocktails but left it up to her to make something up. i watched as she took a fat sprig of rosemary, burned one end and dipped it in absinthe, then dropped it in to the glass, poured in more absinthe and something else - maybe gin? i'm not sure what else was put in there, but this was probably the strongest drink i've ever had and tasted very much like pure alcohol. i'm not a wimpy drinker and can hold my own, but this just didn't taste good so i ended up giving my drink away to my boyfriend. second time i was here, i had a pomegranate gin drink and this time - i could finish the drink but i wasn't really impressed. bummer, i wanted to really like this place.

sushi, whiskey and wifi. i've been to liberty a dozen times over the years. the sashimi and nigiri is fantastic and generous. i like to just order the chef's choice at $10/$20/$30 depending on group size. they've always had great cocktails but over the years they've developed a solid whiskey selection, even pappy.

if you find yourself with a free morning, they open as a coffee shop around 7a and have free wifi. if you ask nicely the bartender will make you a french 75 regardless of the hour.

have not decied if i will return. disappointed, despite the good reviews and great things i've heard about liberty i was not impressed. to begin, our server who claimed to be the bar manager was extremely inattentive. in the hour plus we spent there we had one drink with complete intentions for more. regardless of the empty drinks and clear eye contact he ignored and avoided us. he seemed busy but clear negligence is unacceptable. additionally i ordered a "chefs choice" for food and when it arrived it consisted of three piece of sashimi and a cucumber roll. granite i did not order an expensive "chef"s choice" i would expect my trust in chef would be something he would be proud of.

sushi is pretty good ven though there is only one guy making sushi in the corner of the bar... it's a strange addition to this bar that seems to have no problem packing in customers, but the sushi was great and the atmosphere was nice too.

good hot chocolate... bad customer service. while walking down 15th ave. e with my pregnant wife and 12 month old daughter in the early morning hours, we came along liberty. in the window, they advertised espresso drinks. we entered the establishment to get out of the cold and rain and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. i ordered a cup, paid $3.28 for it, had a brief pleasent conversation with the woman behind the counter, and sat besides my wife and sleeping infant daughter. while enjoying a few sips of our drink; after being in the establishment for approximately 5 minutes, a man approached my wife and i and informed us that children are not allowed in the establishment. we asked why and he informed us that the place is a "bar". he gave us a "to go" cup and kicked us out in the harsh elements.... i am confused to why the personnel behind the counter didn't inform us when we entered the establishment that the place was considered a "bar" and children were not allowed. if we were properly informed, we would have happily gone on our way to the next establishment that sells hot chocolate. as we left liberty, my wife and i looked for visible signs (inside and out) which would indicate that no one 20 years or younger can enter the establishment; to our surprise, there was none.... liberty may make good hot chocolate, but they will take your money and not provide you good customer service.

not that great. go somewhere else.. came to this so called trendy bar/sushi place. if you really like sushi, this is not the place. if you really like well made drinks, this is not the place either. go somewhere else where the food and drinks are halfway decent..there's plenty in seattle.

we explored another seattle neighborhood called capitol hill. after walking around in the rain (of course), we wanted to go to a coffee shop (which pretty much exist on every corner) and stopped in liberty. well, we thought it was a coffee shop, as it had

sushi and a well stocked bar. i visited this spot on a tuesday evening after work with a girlfriend for some much needed "girl talk." we snagged seats up at the bar versus opting to wait to occupy one of the sofas in the "main" dining area of this fairly small establishment.

aaron, our bartendar, was patient with us the entire time through our various "oh mah gah"s and "girrrrrl, you don't even know" conversations and was very helpful about telling us what different bottles of alcohol were when we started playing "i spy" with their extremely well stocked bar. (note: they had st. germain which i swear only 4 bars in this city ever carry). the drinks were incredibly stiff and delicious and complex in taste--these aren't your typical "belltown"-tinis. i ordered the dragon's toe because...well, i love whiskey, and i was pretty buzzed after sipping 3/4 of my whiskey, ginger ale, ginger water and cucumber concoction. bonus points for strong drinks that taste like candy.

as for the food...well, it's similar to what you'd get in belltown. the usual suspects were on the menu: spicy tuna and rolls slathered in mayo. it's not that the rolls were bad, or that the cuts of sashimi were bad, it's just not anything special.

the staff is mostly pleasant, sans one guy who looked like he was their version of macguyver. mg was a bit of a jerk when my girlfriend tried looking for the bathroom and asked if there were specific guy and girl bathrooms because they weren't marked.

overall, this is a great laid back location with very good drinks, a knowledgeable and nice bar staff (mostly), and decent food.

absinthe is made from a host of herbs and spices (including the infamous wormwood) and is served by slowly dripping cold water out of a specific absinthe pitcher over a sugar cube that is held above the glass of absinthe using a special slotted spoon.
