leapings lizards this place is good. okay corny title but true. we went here knowing that this place has been hyped up from ddd and other reviews, but it actually delivered on the quality of food. we had the lunch specials. for me, i ordered the rainbow trout, it had tons of flavor and cooked very well. my wife had the the sirloin which was so tender that we could cut it with a butter knife. we came right after the lunch rush so it was perfect timing because it is true that this place runs out of space quickly. well deservedgoodreviews.

food was fun and creative. but both times i went, the service was sluggish at best. i enjoyed the surry ham in the local baked ciabatta, but it took forever to arrive. also they have limited alcohol drinks and the selection i requested was "out" it was called a grapefruit margarita. also they did not offer salt rims even though i asked.
i also tried the pork and lamb patty on a squash cake. not my favorite. the patty was a bit underdone. the squash was soggy and not crisp enough as a under layer for the patty. a bit more blueberry glaze would have been nice also.
would have enjoyed the bakery, but it was closed on mondays.
had to ask for the check, nevergoodservice when one has to request their own check.
really need to amp up the service. not only do we go to restaurants for food and presentation, but service is equally important. the leaping lizard has missed his mark, hope they can recover.

yummo. as a total foodie, i have come to the conclusion that dining out is only for conveince and not taste. i feel like i can't even buy agoodmeal, at any price, because it has become a processed sysco world.
well not today! my bff and i celebrated her birthday lunch someplace new to us~
the leaping lizard. it was a righteous experience. everything on our plates was make with love and skill. it was just, just so yummo. then we went door to the bakery for more love. no to mention everyone that took care of us was swell.

not worth the hype. we decided to pick this place for a saturday lunch while on our way from richmond to virginia beach. since we like to watch guy, we thought it would be worth the detour. i am sorry to say that it was absolutely disappointing. my chicken salad sandwich was pathetic. i struggled to finish it off and couldn't. my wife tried the cheese sandwich and she said that it was average - she is usually generous in these matters. the chicken tortilla soup was pretty average too as was the sweet potato salad. the only saving grace(s) were the minutemaid lemonade from a can and the different-than-usual flavors in all the food items. the hostess and waitress were friendly enough and the ambience (sitting outside next to a soccer field) was pleasant. in summary, go there for a different dining experience but if you are someone like me (an indian who is used to delicious food everyday) or used togoodmulticultural cuisine, then avoid this place.

absolutely delish!!. a friend and i stopped here last friday for lunch. i had seen the ddd show and wanted to go but i live across the bay. anyway, a doctors trip brought me across the bay and as a trip to care-a-lot was in the plan, and i found out how close we were to the restaurant, so we decided to go.what a treat! it smelled like heaven! very busy but the service wasgoodand very friendly. i had the quinoa chicken salad and my fried had the fish taco. everything was delightful, fresh, eye-appealing and plentiful. prices are reasonable, lunch for 2 and i had enough for lunch the next day, was $25.00. most lunch items were between 8-12 dollars. i have another appt this friday and will be going back!

toogoodfor words!. my boyfriend and i are new to the hampton roads area and have been scouting for amazing places to eat since before we moved here. we just so happen to be in the leaping lizard cafe area so we decided to check it out.

-my boyfriend was told by people at work that it was amazing. i am a food network junkie and try to go to all the places on diners, dive-ins, and dives so of course after seeing the leaping lizard on it, i had to go!

it was amazing. we started out with their hummus. it is not a traditional hummus but it was so good! a girl to the table next to us ordered a mojito, it looked sogoodwe ordered two of them. i strongly suggest ordering one when you are there. although the entrees sounded amazing, we decided to go with sandwiches since everyone else in the cafe had one. i ordered a half sandwich with soup. the soup of the day was fish chowder and the sandwich and soup was to die for!!! i only wish we had room for dessert!

after eating here the past three years, we felt the quality of food wasn't asgoodas before. the crab cakes were smaller and cold. the corn wasn't tasty. the potatoes weren't cooked enough. not sure if they changed chefs or grew to big.

from an episode of diners, drive - ins and dives. i saw this restaurant featured on a food network show and made a note of it for when we were back in the virginia beach area. i'm glad i did. my wife, daughter and i each ordered the half of a turkey and ham sandwich with salad which was presented with small sides of potato salad and fruit. my son in law had the quinoa salad and the grandkids had grilled cheese. everyone said they enjoyed their lunch. the bread for the sandwiches was sogoodwe bought a loaf.

not impressed. we took a friend there for her birthday (on my recommendation). we sat outside in the cold. yes there was a heater but still very chilly because it's not completely enclosed. our waitress was snippy and not well informed. our food wasgoodbut very little for the price. however, when it came to desserts our waitress told us there was only one thing available yet when other tables ordered after us they got all kinds of treats and desserts. i think if our waitress had been pleasant then maybe it would turn it all around but i won't make the drive to go there again. i would give it a c+.

i expected it to begoodbecause of what i'd read , but it was so much better than good. my husband and i are organic farmers who are great cooks. my sister, gail hobbs page is a professional chef. we are used to extremely fresh incredible and complex flavors. this food was fabulous and the place had the authentic quirkiness that i love. it's mobbed and my god it's worth the wait. i'll gladly drive an hour to eat there again!

really like guy fieri but no digging this sandwich shop. potato salad was nothing like potato salad. i felt bad calling 4 small potato wedges salad. turkey wrap lacked flavor. not agoodvalue.

favorite lunch spot!. i have been to leaping lizard a number of times since discovering it earlier this year. both my friend and i had been lamenting finding a local, artsy eatery nearby, and were excited when we found leaping lizard. the atmosphere reminds me of many of the small restaurants along the gulf coast of florida that i loved (and miss...), service is alwaysgoodand the place is almost always packed. so be ready for a wait (or get there early). parking is also limited, and in our experience if you're carpooling with others, be sure to take the compact car!

what about the food? i have yet to try anything that isn't excellent. the hummas wrap and quinoa salad are favorites, but so were the (lightly) fried green tomatoes i had off the seasonal menu last time i was there. the summer gazpacho was delightful as well. my friend swears their roast beef sandwich is one of the better ones she's ever ordered out (i tend towards the more vegetarian options). portions are agoodsize for lunch--not too much so as to overwhelm or that i feel stuffed (or have to skip dessert!).. most come with a small salad and fresh (in season) fruit.. don't forget to try one of their desserts too--my favorite is always the chocolate cake! prices aregoodfor a sit-down lunch at a place like this; with splitting a check with a friend (and we usually get dessert) plus a tip, i rarely spend over $17. which to me is well worth it for the quality of food and the prompt service.
