little pricy, but... when we are in the mood for crusted grouper this is the bestplaceto go. i always ask for a thick piece and they are very attentive. we always call ahead to make sure they have this dish. i am sure other foods are as good but this is our favorite.

favorite place. i see a few that have gone there with large groups and think this is not theplacefor that. take the loud birthday parties to a larger place. it is just an old house made many years ago into a restaurant i would guess. bestplacein north east florida for a cozy special evening. great wines and meals and a wonderfull experience. reservations are a must and many will be turned down on week ends without them. she used to have the best chilean sea bass in the country but quit carrying because of the market price it is ashamed i could of absorbed the price. great escargot and i have tried it many places.

i am not a fancy dinner kind of guy, but my tuna was fantastic. service was great, and the food was full of flavor, and the pricing was fair. my only concern with theplacewas when it filled up, it was very loud and made conversation with my wife difficult. add some drapes or tapestries on the walls, and it will be perfect. the hardwood floors and crisp paint give it a feeling of clean. i highly recommend thisplacefor date night.

the food was amazing. be sure to call for a reservation because the restaurant is small. bestplaceto eat in town!

if you're looking for fine dining in fernandina, you've found it.
thisplaceis a gem. quaint setting, great service, and brilliant food. my favoriteplaceon the island.
just forget all the other tourist traps and go here.

yes probably the best in town. after eating at everyplacein town i finally made it to le clos. when you go here to eat you should expect a lot. that is what they are selling themselves as and charging you for so you have the right to demand it. portions here are small by american standards. as a result plan on an appetizer to start, an entree and dessert the menu is fairly limited. i am not knocking them just noting. i had the calamari appetizer to start. this was fried in a somewhat salty coating. i probably would try something else next time but it was certainly cooked to perfection. nothing tough here, very tender. i had the duck for entree and i have to say it was really really good, served rareish. with a really great mushroom sauce. very very good. duck sat on a small amount of whipped potatoes. plain but done well. vegetable was sort of a shredded carrot, zucchini thing as far as i could tell. also very good, plated very nicely. my wife had the special which was grouper, done to perfection. for dessert i had the chocolate cake, she had the créme brûlée both really excellent. we split a bottle of the cheapest wine which was about $30. it was also very good. total cost for the two of us with the tip was just north of $130. i left full and satisfied. service was good, we ate outside which was lovely. bottom line, i can't afford to eat here frequently but for that special occasion this is where i would go. my opinion based soley on food this is the best restaurant in fernandina. leaving out some kind of cost vs taste handicap scenario .... i'll give this one a grade a....strongly recommended.

authentic french cuisine. award winning food but dining atmosphere needs improvement. when we first arrived the atmosphere was very pleasant but by the time my fiancé and i received our appetizers theplacewas almost full. with more people came more noise which seemed to echo making holding a conversation impossible. the table placement is too close making ease dropping a reality. the food however was superb i would recommend the escargot and lamb shank. both of these dishes were spectacular!

can't go wrong.. it is one of the historic old houses downtown- complete with wood floors and ceilings and it is quaint- so expect it to be noisy at certain times. but, good luck finding any of the more historic places that don't get loud during dinner time. the food here is always good. katherine takes great pride in her restaurant and the food that is presented to her customers. she is very involved- rare is theplacewhere the owner takes reservations, grows a garden out back, cooks and talks to the patrons as well. highly recommended.

food is decent but tables are way too close together. they need to sacrifice seating to make theplacemore enjoyable. people next to us were very nosy and conversations were hard to have without others in earshot. good food. very uncomfortable atmosphere.
