great food atlamexicania. if you are interested in a quaint atmosphere with authentic mexican food, this is the place to go. i was pleasantly surprised at the quantity of food that you got for the price. the quality and taste of the food is, in my opinion, superior. (my favorite being the chicken flag burrito). the food here is the real thing, unlike the processed mexican food found at the local fast food and dine in competitors.

amid the bevy of interesting food to try, you can find little storefronts likelamexicana, a taco stand and shop with big-time tasty mexican dishes and preparation styles for tex-mex favorites and more authentic dishes alike. it almost feels over the top, but this spot is all deliciousness.

i love mexican food!  however, like most of my favorite restaurants, i prefer smaller, local, and more authentic.  this is very true when it comes to eating mexican.  one of our favorite finds islamexicana on monmouth st. in newport, ky.  the food here is fresh and flavorful!  i’m certain the quality of food is due in part to one owner living in spain for awhile and another, a dj for a local spanish radio station, being originally from mexico city.

we're addicted. i'm not going to lie.. a few months ago, my husband and i received alamexicana gift certificate, or as i like to call it, an enchilada-flavored bait on a hook that we just followed right up onto the shore, no actual hooking required.

look. i'm just going to get right to the point. listen to the other people - it's good. here's what to order:

homemade chips. salsa. and then some more of both. and then, order two orders more on your way out the door. feel a flush of shame as the kitchen staff re-purposes an enormous sour cream container for your many, many ounces of home-bound salsa. get over the shame when you cover every meal in this apparently crack-laced salsa for the next two weeks. it's time to go back tolamexicana when you finally finish off the salsa.

tacos, obviously - my husband is obsessed with the goat. anything with the guajillo sauce is a go. chicken is a little dry.

flag enchiladas - i prefer the ratio here to the ratio in the giant flag burrito, where the awesome meat flavors are too muted vs. the rice and beans

nachos - i never order nachos in a mexican restaurant, except here. because the chips are ridiculous. who serves homemade tortilla chips around here? hardly anybody. they are light, crispy, salty, hot. add your meat of choice and it's an incredible meal.

margarita - not as good as mazunte, to me, but really good, nonetheless. embarrass your family and friends and order the large. consider whether you could smuggle it out and raise a goldfish inside.

guac - if you like it chunky and fresh and filled with onions and tomatoes, well, good on you. paydirt.


give it a pass: gordita, flautas are on the plain side. not bad, but it's an opportunity cost. you could be enjoying so many other amazing things. if you aren't sure, get a variety of tacos and plan to drown in salsa. i already talked about my extensive theory on the flag burrito, but suspect i'm in the minority there.

so there you go. get thee to there. it is so good. and hey, the people are nice, too! check out the store and don't worry if you don't speak espanol. the bemused counter guy is happy to translate. :) word to the wise: when you're in there, however tempting and exciting it may seem, don't buy that styrofoam cup of red chile stuff you dump a beer into. yuck. i guess it sounds as bad as it was when i type out the description, but the package looked really appealing!

hongos and vegetarianos tacos. served on soft corn tortillas with fresh ingredients, the mushrooms and veggie tacos are delicious! (and affordable!)

fresh, authentic, delicious!! great vegetarian options. awesome prices!. a vegan friend originally took me tolamexicana. it is fantastic!! i highly recommend the vegetarian tacos. i've tried the hongos (mushrooms), huitlacoche, veggie, and squash blossom. the hongos and veggie are my fave, but they're all delicious. they use fresh avocado in their guac and dishes. the atmosphere is incredibly unpretentious. staff is always friendly. if you like traditional mexican dishes (or just tasty food), get there stat.

wow!. took the family and we all agreedlamexicana is the real deal and our new "go to" mexican restaurant. good chips and salsa to start. i had a couple of tacos and a tamale - rice and beans ate it all and want more today -cannot wait togo back.

holy smokes was i missing out! i used to live on york street in newport for a couple years and never had i triedlamexicana. you walk in and something about it tells you that its going to be really good. i ordered chips, guacamole and a quesadilla stuffed with barbacoa (spicy beef) and was duly impressed when it arrived. fresh mexican cheeses, fresh ingredients and they handmade the tortilla for cripe's sake! it was really delicious and a tremendous bargain for lunch time. while perusing their menu they have an enormous plethora of options from menudo, squash blossom to huitlacoche (corn smut), and pozole!

terrible food and service.. i was really craving mexican and i kept seeing good things aboutlamexicana. now i know i should've gone to nada and got an appetizer instead.

my burrito was overcooked and burnt. the sausage did not taste like sausage. the waitress was terrible and was more interested in socializing than tending to my table. i didn't receive a check and then finally just went up to pay without one. i wish they would've said that you don't get a check so i didn't have to sit there while she gossiped with her friend.

the good thing about the location is its closeness to newport pizza. go there instead.

best mexican food in the city!. mexican is my favorite genre of food, and my wife and i are definitely foodie snobs - often times spending nights out at places such as boca, nicola's, table, local 127, orchid's, rookwood, etc. but we always save a night at least once every 1-2 weeks forlamexicana. the mexican food here is the most authentic and best in the city. now, don't get me wrong, i can eat mexican food anywhere (i even like taco bell if you can consider that mexican), but compared to the hundreds of places that taste the same (el racho grande, el torro, etc.) this place absolutely blows them away. go eat there today and you'll see what i'm talking about. homemade everything - gaucamole (best we've ever had), tortillas, even down to their refried beans.

go outta your way. i've have eaten here for years and i don't know why i've not posted a review forlamexicana. it's like not introducing your best friend to a great woman you've know for a long time. i always have the same thing, not just because i'm predicable, but also the burrito pollo is always delicious. and my lord is it huge. something that big is never on a lunch menu. this ain't chipotle with 80% rice, 10% beans and then dig around to find the meat. there must be a full breast of chicken in this thing. if you look closely at the ingredients you'll actually find vegetables. i'm not kidding. most mexican restaurants smoother meager portions with carne, cheese or guac sauce.lamexican puts the red or green chili sauce on the table so you can self-sauce to taste. the chips are thick and generic, but instead of same ole' salsa are served with a bowl of green chili sauce that is spicy enough to clear your sinuses, but not so much that you'd stop eating them. just take an extra chip, with out sauce, to clear the kick from your taste buds. the variety of meats is huge, including brains. the also have bottle of coca-cola from mexico (which, from what i've read recently, is not made with 100% cane sugar). while it's in downtown newport there's plenty of parking behind the store, from there it's just a walk through the tienda to the restaurant. the décor is bland the food is not.

i'm kinda fat. let's get real. i am prone to overeating from time to time. with that being said, there are few places where i go fat kid like i do when i eat atlamexicana. this place is my graceland. the tacos are so good that i can't stop eating them. i order 4 to start, and then i end up eating a few more, and believe me, 4 is more than enough. and after i throw in some chips and guac, i feel like i could be the subject of one of those tlc weight loss documentaries. if you don't like this place, i don't like you, simple as that.... boom.
