best authentic mexican food in the area! this is no tex-mex. staff is always friendly and the food comes out fast. the food itself isgreat- always tastes fresh.

hongos and vegetarianos tacos. served on soft corn tortillas with fresh ingredients, the mushrooms and veggie tacos are delicious! (and affordable!)

fresh, authentic, delicious!!greatvegetarian options. awesome prices!. a vegan friend originally took me to la mexicana. it is fantastic!! i highly recommend the vegetarian tacos. i've tried the hongos (mushrooms), huitlacoche, veggie, and squash blossom. the hongos and veggie are my fave, but they're all delicious. they use fresh avocado in their guac and dishes. the atmosphere is incredibly unpretentious. staff is always friendly. if you like traditional mexican dishes (or just tasty food), get there stat.

yum. just found this place and we love it!greatfood (including some deliciously interesting choices for the 2 vegetarians in our family), kid friendly, adult friendly (drinks!), non-pricey, and lovely people working there. we went for a family dinner, but it would be agreatplace for lunch, drinks, snacks, happy hour, meeting friends, date night, etc. honestly, i would go back right now, even though i was just there a few hours ago.

worst server. heard severalgreatcomments about the restaurant so i tried it out, server not familiar with the menu, server rude and not accommodating, never will go back!!!!!!

great mexican food!. this is the real deal. cincinnati area has always struggled with having any edible mexican food, most of it is horrible, this isgreatand very authentic. the only other place i eat mexican besides yolandita's food truck in queensgate, which is probably the best, but a smaller menu.

shake my head.... i really loved this place, and i still think they havegreatfood, however, their service is terrible!! a little mexican fellow took our drink orders. i ordered a sweet tea and my boyfriend ordered a mellow yellow. since our watier didn't speak one word of english he brought my boyfriend a modello -_- and i just didn't get a drink at all. so i brought the modello to a waitress whom i knew spoke english, and told her "i think there was a misunderstanding, but he ordered a mellow yellow". she looked at me and said "we don't have mellow yellow. now go back to your seat and i'll be with you in a minute" in the rudest tone i've ever been spoken to. we immediately walked out the door and across the street to pepper pod. i refuse to be treated like that. it's not my fault you can't speak english, brother. this is america!!!

go outta your way. i've have eaten here for years and i don't know why i've not posted a review for la mexicana. it's like not introducing your best friend to agreatwoman you've know for a long time. i always have the same thing, not just because i'm predicable, but also the burrito pollo is always delicious. and my lord is it huge. something that big is never on a lunch menu. this ain't chipotle with 80% rice, 10% beans and then dig around to find the meat. there must be a full breast of chicken in this thing. if you look closely at the ingredients you'll actually find vegetables. i'm not kidding. most mexican restaurants smoother meager portions with carne, cheese or guac sauce. la mexican puts the red or green chili sauce on the table so you can self-sauce to taste. the chips are thick and generic, but instead of same ole' salsa are served with a bowl of green chili sauce that is spicy enough to clear your sinuses, but not so much that you'd stop eating them. just take an extra chip, with out sauce, to clear the kick from your taste buds. the variety of meats is huge, including brains. the also have bottle of coca-cola from mexico (which, from what i've read recently, is not made with 100% cane sugar). while it's in downtown newport there's plenty of parking behind the store, from there it's just a walk through the tienda to the restaurant. the décor is bland the food is not.

a quick review to go with a quick lunch. la mexicana has some of the best true mexican tacos around, and thankfully, the service wasgreattoo! oh, and if you are looking for a market with authentic ingredients, they've got a small grocery in the back. th

the best "real" mexican food. i'd read many reviews of this place and have been dying to go. i finally was able to talk the bf into going. we live in montgomery, so it's not really convenient to drive to newport for lunch, but it's definitely worth the trip. the bf is from california and has been looking for real mexican tacos since he moved here. he finally found them at la mexicana. he said their tacos are just like those on the taco trucks back home. he had four beef tacos and ate them all, so i know they must have been wonderful. i ate two of the vegetarian tacos and they so good, i wished i had ordered a third. i thought about them later that day and was wondering how soon we could go back. yes, the decor is rather spartan, but who cares...the food isgreatand the prices are reasonable.
