i recommend it.. atmosphere: a rustic bayside dinning area with big windows and view, tasteful happy mexican music. very comfortable in a casual way.
food: i stopped for happy hour. nice variety of tacos on warm soft house made tortillas. i especially liked the pollo marinade tacos with the green salsa. the petrale sole seviche as an appetizer was ample and very good. the guacamole was like i make it - cilantro, tomato bits, lime juice, salt, onions and creamy avocado - all made fresh and served with the good house made chips. i also had an order of the pico de gallo - which was perfect. a small bowl of limes came with the selections. bottles of negra model and dos equis amber made it perfect as the late afternoon sun came through the view windows.
service: friendly, efficient, fast i really like the people who work there.

i have a home in tucson and have traveled extensively in mexico. this restaurant would be highly appreciated in tucson, and is better than any of the higher rated ones in yuma.

fabulous chile rellenos!. earlier this year, my wife and i had an event in astoria, and i searched for mexican restaurants to try. la cabana de raya had great reviews, so we tried it. just recently, another event brought us back to astoria, and we returned because the food was so good. we ordered guacamole and chips to start. the guacamole must have been freshly made because it was perfect, and the chips are definitely not off-the-shelf chips. they are crispier and a little smaller, ideal for scooping up delicious bites of the guac. the greatest reason we returned to la cabana de raya was their chile rellenos. they use fresh roasted poblano chiles filled with creamy mozarella cheese, and then dipped, not wrapped, in a fluffy egg batter and deep fried to perfection. most mexican restaurants wrap their chiles in an omelet style egg covering, but at la cabana de raya, they take the extra time and effort to prepare their rellenos in the authentic mexican style. the flavor is divine! combined with the delicious rice, beans, and homemade tortillas, our meal was amazing, and the server, always with a smile on her face, took very good care of us. this place is a jewel!

absolutely the best mexican food we have ever eaten outside street tacos in puerto vallarta!!!

i can't recommend this restaurant enough! it's hard to believe a fishing village known for it's seafood has the best mexican place in the usa...

try it for yourself!

i found this place on urbanspoon, it had 97% so i thought this has to be good food. urbanspoon was not wrong! anything i say on here will not do justice to the amazing tasty fresh food. this place has real mexican food. the stuff you find in california. we live two hours away and we will be back here just for the food because it was that damn good. the service was awesome to. you can tell this place takes pride in the food they make you can see it and taste it.

worse food ever. this restaurant needs to some serious talent to keep this open any further. i've lived in man areas of the world: los angeles and mexico, and had delicious mexican food and the food here comes no where near to being authentic nor edible. my family and i ordered the beef tacos and several other dishes. needless to say, it was dry, tasteless, and not worth the money. when i complained, the manager acted like he could care less and was not interested in making it up to us. so, we just left - never to come back again. the worst food i've had - if you can even call it food. if you want something better, i suggest taco bell. that's how bad it was.

great food!!. i grew up in a mexican-american neighborhood in socal...i was so happy to find a place that did home made tortillas. some of the best mexican food i've had in years. the guacamole was to die for, they use 1 & 1/2 avocado's and just the right amount of pico de gillo. cilantro does not overpower everything else, and the jalapeno peppers give it just the right kick! have recommended this place to friends from central oregon, and they love it! staff is very friendly and willing to help you figure out what you want. very nice view of young's bay as well. not real spendy and you get a lot for your money. i'll eat here again and again!

really delicious & quick lunch. we had basico platter with al pastor (pork) & sopes with a variety of meats. all yummy! fresh tortillas were so amazing! washed down with jaritos or mexican bottled coke. i'd go back tomorrow if it wasn't a 6 hour drive!

first off, i want to say i disagree. growing up in a mexican home, i think this food is far from authentic mexican food. the tinga is terrible. the carne asada is way too salty. and tortillas taste like the maseca brand. may i add, the service was terrible. only one gentleman, i believe his name is ramone, was constantly checking up on how we were doing. the second time i went, i wasn't asked once if we were fine. i most likely will not recomend this restaurant to my friends.

corn tortillas... so good!. do not eat here! the corn tortillas are so good they will ruin you for life! in (a lot of) years of eating mexican food all around the world, including several places in mexico, these tortillas are in the top two (and the other place is closed). fresh, homemade to order, corn tortillas… so light and tender (excuse me i am drooling thinking about them) they almost float on air. the meat is good but the tortillas alone are worth driving from portland for.
