konga cafe

great food. i was in saskatoon on business and stopped into the konga cafe. i was thourougly impressed with the food - fresh, flavorful and memorable. i went for the special of the day - mahi-mahi w/jerksauce. the fish was grilled beautifully and thejerksauce was very tasty. i will definatly return if i am ever back in saskatoon!

this is definitely my favourite restaurant! my boyfriend and i come there all the time! thejerkmahi mahi is so amazing! i recommend this place to everyone!

where did this gem come from?!?!. wow...this place is good on every level. i went here with my wife an our friend earlier this evening, so i'll walk readers through our experience.

we reserved a table, so when we got there glasses of icewater were waiting. we were also greeted by an incredibly nice and attentive waitress. we received a tasty starter: deep fried johnny-cakes. i could eat these every day for the rest of my life. next came our apps. my wife and i both had the soup (tonight's was a pumpkin soup with chicken, potatoes, and beans), while our friend had a caesar salad. everything...everything was made from scratch, to our hearty soups to the authentic caesar salad dressing with anchovies. a beautiful start. oh, and even though we ordered the small soups and half salad, our portions were more than adequate.

next was entres. i ordered the west indian curry chicken off the menu. it was a delicious dish that came with a coconut rice with red beans. a cold can of coconut water was the perfect drink to accompany the meal. my wife had a rib special, pork with a slightly spicy mango sauce. they were cooked beautifully. our friend had a spicy mahi mahi. although it was spicy from thejerksauce, she said it may have been the best piece of fish she's ever had in a resaurant. i had a bite, and i agree, it was tremendous. both of their dishes came with side of roasted potatoes which were carmalized and tasty.

we couldn't resist, so we chased it down with a round of key lime pie. it was the perfect finish.

i'll close by mentioning a couple things. this place has a great, laid-back and friendly atmosphere. we were greeted by the owner and the chef, and all of the waitstaff clearly love coming to work. the prices might shock someone who is looking for a cheaper eatery, but i assure you this meal was worth every penny. lastly, don't be afraid of the condimints. they are an adventure in themselves. bravo konga, you have three new fans.

stopped in for lunch cool jamaican vibe. soup of the day was delicious. ordered wraps. they were fresh and so much flavour. can’t wait to go back and try thejerkchicken!

went there recently. had the sweetfire chicken. it as well as the potato and veggie roast were delicious. i also tried some of my friendsjerkchicken and it was great. service was a touch lacking but it had a nice feel like i was at someone's house and their family was cooking dinner. i will be back for sure!

was not impressed at all. we walked in not knowing if we seat ourselves or wait for someone to greet us. finally a lady came out and told us to grab a table and gave us menus, didn't ask us if we wanted anything other than water to drink, so that's what we got.
the food was below sub par, i got the creole shrimp and it was flavourless, expected a lot more. my boyfriend got thejerkpork chops and they weren't spicy at all. we also both got the roasted potatoes as a side and they just tasted like boiled potatoes with tomatoes crushed on them.
overall terrible service for the most part and the food had no flavour really disappointing

this restaurant is probably top 5 worst restaurants i have ever been to, it's depressing that so many people have rated it so highly.

i can't even remember what we ordered but when the dishes came out they tasted exactly the same with absolutely no flavor or spice. the rice was bland and dry and in no way represented authentic caribbean flavors- perhaps everything is dumbed down for the prairie palate. the quality of the food was also terrible, fricking minute rice? give me a break.

we didn't even take our leftovers home it was literally too gross. the only thing we really ate were the johnny cakes, i was glad they could at least fry dough.

i think the owners need to go back home for a visit to be reminded what island flavors are all about. from someone who grows her own chiles for pepper sauce andjerkand whose family is from guyana. literally shocking.

my husband and i went on a sunday evening and we were the only ones in the restaurant. i ordered thejerkchicken with roast potatoes and he ordered the west indian chicken curry with rice and peas. really enjoyed the chicken - both dishes. thejerkchicken was spicy and so flavourful! i enjoyed the rice and peas but not so much the roasted potatoes. i also don't understand why we were served on broken dishes? as you can see from the picture i posted, the plate had chips on all sides and both of our plates were like that. hence the 3/5 rating.

best, most tender, perfectly done pork chops i've ever had.. they canjerkmy chops any day! also tried the chicken soup, bbq ribs,jerkmahi mahi andjerkchicken all of which were off the charts good and had the whole family commending my choice in eatery. portions were perfect for me, probably even too much for most.

convinced my family to go there when they were in the city to visit, had been wanting to try this place already 2 years ago but couldn't convince my friend to go.. what a mistake he made lol.

will definitely be going back and taking any visitors to the city who haven't tried it.

this is not jamaican food...went there and had the sad excuse forjerkchicken, a bland white chicken breast covered with bottledjerksauce.. i live in jamaica for a few months every year...and i am still yet to find any real authenticjerkchicken. i spend a few weeks each trip cooking and selling real authenticjerkwith my rasta at his roadside stand in negril...konga cafe please use a homemadejerkrub...common have some respect..marinade your chicken with the bone in and use thighs...that is key. realjerkshould be cooked smoked and slowely in a drum bbq with a spicey chared crisp skin and full flavor penetrating throughout the meat. unfortunately you will not find anything that resembles fresh amazing real jamacain cuisine here...saskatoon is missing out

disappointed. if you are looking for real authentic jamaican food, this is most certainly the furthest thing from it. we had the "jerk chicken", and it definitely was notjerkchicken, and the rice and peas, was literally just white rice and mixed in red beans, not to mention it was dry. then again, what kind of real "jamaican" food was i really expecting to find in saskatoon. womp womp nice try though

the decor may not be terribly exciting. but i enjoy the casual laid back atmosphere. kid was reading my reviews and asked why i didn't have a good one on here, so here it is.
we have come here many times. once for lunch it was ok. but have been here many more times for supper.
the kid absolutely loves the chicken fingers and orders this each time we go. the chicken is cooked to perfection! the inside moist and tender with a nice light breading.
the sweet fire porker is oh so good. nice sized portion tender and so wonderfully spicy event scalp was sweating. love it. the rice and beans are very tasty and the veg is always cooked well.
the ribs, insanely large portion so tender almost falling off the bone. they taste so good that even when your full you feel the need to keep eating.
the potatoes are also good.
spouse has hadjerkchicken and said it is good. tender and nicely spicy.
sweet fire chicken spouse has ordered and it too super moist and insanely but wonderfully spicy. we love the heat..
the owner is a great man alway so friendly and treats kids extremely well. before each meal you start off with johnny cakes love having them with hot sauce. large selection of sauces.

yeah mon!. i love this place, a true hidden gem. the johnny cakes with the banana sauce are my favorites. had thejerkchicken with rice and veggies and they were awsome. i went back for lunch once and was a little dissapointed with the lunch menu. i prefer more traditional food rather than thejerkburger with fries.
anyways, i'll return for supper for sure.
