epicly delicious. words that come to mind when i think of the meal i just had at konga cafe....extraordinary, delicious, flavourful, unique, and so on and so forth.
my friend and i decided to cross konga off the wishlist and actually make the trek out there and it could not have been more worth it. the food, service, drinks, and experience in general were all fantastic.
we started off with some rum punch, the johnny cakes (which i think come with all the meals) drinks were awesome and the johnny cakes, something i've never tried before, were awesome. this was followed by the some sweet potato chicken soup which was absolutely perfect. i swear i've never had chicken in a soup cooked so perfectly it was tender, real chicken without any of that unappealing fat or gristle.
for the main course we had spicy peanut shrimp and the jerk chicken both with rice and peas. oooooooooooh it was good, i'd like to try something different when i go back just for variety but i'm going to being dreaming of those perfectly cooked shrimp and that absolutely outstanding peanut sauce tonight. i tried a few bites of my friends jerk chicken and it was also awesome.
the rice and peas are a perfect side dish and come along with some carrots and zucchini (i rarely like zucchini but apparently konga cafe knows how to cook it because i ate it all, and thoroughly enjoyed every bite). finished off the evening with some tasty key lime pie.
this is the type of restaurant that makes you feel comfortable, welcome, and like a regular even if it's your first time. it's amazing what a difference it makes when the people working actually seem like they want to be there.
i've noticed some comments on here about the food being "pricey", that i have a difficult time agreeing with.
considering all the times many of us walk into a boston pizza or montana's, etc. and lay down $15-$40 for a mediocre/blah meal, i feel like the $26 i paid for 2 awesome cocktails, a huge satisfying dinner, and homemade dessert is more than reasonable. to top it all off the service was unbeatable.
