well what are you waiting for? go!. i agree with so many of the other reviewers, that it may be superfluous to type my own thoughts in the first place. oh well, i must have a joyous rant of my own.

after coming here at least 4 times, it astounds me that i had not written anything in the past. everything from their pork, to their chicken, to the ribs, and tonight, the spicy peanut shrimp... they are all simply very well done! each meat is treated with its own tender love and carry their own unique tastes, all of which are very agreeable with my taste buds.

tonight was the opportunity to try some surf: spicy peanut shrimp. this is any peanut lover's dream. the large shrimp bathing perfectly in the peanut reduction and accompanied by rice and vegetables was too much for me to hold back: i inhaled this bad boy.

the flavours were so full of body that it became obese. the aroma so high that i needed to make a hole in the ceiling. the presence of peanuts so strong that arnold schwarzenegger crumbled in defeat. the portions so epic that 300 spartans were halted in their tracks.

you get my drift.

outstanding fare in a humble setting, served by a caring staff. one would have to be quite the anal retentive individual not to enjoy the experience.

some guy. only went here for lunch, and i don't think that it was the best cross-section of their talents or menu. i ordered the creole shrimp with rice and peas, and it was good, though in my opinion a touch overpriced for the quality. portions are good sized though. would like to go back for a dinner service and try again.

epicly delicious. words that come to mind when i think of the meal i just had at konga cafe....extraordinary, delicious, flavourful, unique, and so on and so forth.
my friend and i decided to cross konga off the wishlist and actually make the trek out there and it could not have been more worth it. the food, service, drinks, and experience in general were all fantastic.
we started off with some rum punch, the johnny cakes (which i think come with all the meals) drinks were awesome and the johnny cakes, something i've never tried before, were awesome. this was followed by the some sweet potato chicken soup which was absolutely perfect. i swear i've never had chicken in a soup cooked so perfectly it was tender, real chicken without any of that unappealing fat or gristle.
for the main course we had spicy peanut shrimp and the jerk chicken both with rice and peas. oooooooooooh it was good, i'd like to try something different when i go back just for variety but i'm going to being dreaming of those perfectly cooked shrimp and that absolutely outstanding peanut sauce tonight. i tried a few bites of my friends jerk chicken and it was also awesome.
the rice and peas are a perfect side dish and come along with some carrots and zucchini (i rarely like zucchini but apparently konga cafe knows how to cook it because i ate it all, and thoroughly enjoyed every bite). finished off the evening with some tasty key lime pie.
this is the type of restaurant that makes you feel comfortable, welcome, and like a regular even if it's your first time. it's amazing what a difference it makes when the people working actually seem like they want to be there.

i've noticed some comments on here about the food being "pricey", that i have a difficult time agreeing with.
considering all the times many of us walk into a boston pizza or montana's, etc. and lay down $15-$40 for a mediocre/blah meal, i feel like the $26 i paid for 2 awesome cocktails, a huge satisfying dinner, and homemade dessert is more than reasonable. to top it all off the service was unbeatable.

great food!. great food, fantastic prices, and an excellent atmosphere.

i had the ribs in a cinnamon mango bbq sauce. for around $20, i received an entire rack of baby back ribs, grilled perfectly and amazingly tender, a heaping pile of rice and beans, and a generous portion of steamed vegetables. i also ordered a "small" bowl of the soup-of-the-day, an excellent pumpkin chicken noodle soup that, to my surprise, came in a large cereal bowl. the meal also included horrible for me but oh so good johnny cakes!

the others at my table had jerk pork chops (i wish i could grill them that tender!) and grilled chicken using the same sauce as the ribs i had.

we also shared a piece of key lime pie. unfortunately, i was not overly impressed by the pie; it tasted too much of condensed milk for me.

very impressed with the food in general, though!

authentic and delicious. this place is amazing. the atmosphere is cozy, but the food is consistently delicious. they have food that is full of flavour and options for non-spicy dishes. personal favourites include the curry chicken with potato and the volcano chicken. definitely a regular spot for me!

delicious food. great atmosphere!. fantastic food served up by energetic staff who offer great recommendations on what to eat. the banana leaf sauce tastes amazing on absolutely everything - especially the hot and delicious johnny cakes that arrive without asking. the portion sizes are huge. the ribs can't be missed - they are mouth-smackingly delicious. the jerky bird burger was also tasty and i loved the fries. it's a bit expensive, but worth every dime! i'll definitely visit this place on a regular basis.

best kept secret. my partner and i went here recently after he'd purchased a groupon promotion. we'd never heard of it before, so we didn't know what to expect. it's located in caswell hill, an inner-city neighbourhood west of downtown.

the restaurant itself is fairly small. the interior is full of interesting objects, like a hanging sculpture of the pop cans from their beverage menu. the pendant light fixtures have grass skirts on them, and the counter areas have tiki roof overhangs. the walls in spots are a little scuffed up.

the food is incredible! the menu is small, which works to their advantage... what they do, they do well. we had a delicious homemade sweet potato soup and johnny cakes (fried bread) to start with. after that, i had a very tasty tropical bbq chicken with rice and beans. my partner had jerk chicken, which he liked. even the veggie sides were flavourful and tender. we wanted to try some key lime pie, but the massive portion size of the meal stuffed us full!

the service was excellent. our server was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. she was knowledgeable and had tried everything on the menu. we're glad to have discovered this place, and we intend to come back!

update: went back on november 19, 2011. another 5-star meal! the beef and bean soup was wonderful, my curried chicken was delicious, my husband's shrimp was tasty, and we even had room for some scrumptious key lime pie. the servers were friendly and really made us feel welcome. thanks again, konga!

it's hard to stay away!. the plan was to go out to a different restaurant every saturday for lunch. however, just like anything else you enjoy, you want to experience it more. so, my wife and myself found ourselves yet again on the front step of the konga cafe. a nice start to the meal was the pair of jonny cakes that we received. there are a few different hot sauces to choose from on every table so, you might as well try out a few! we both had the soup of the day, which was homemade chicken soup with sweet potatoes......awesome!! my wife also had the warm curry chicken wrap which she thoroughly enjoyed. i chose to have the jerky bird burger with a salad. great flavor to the chicken and a huge salad had me stuffed and satisfied. the wallet was satisfied as well as this only cost $22.00! the owner of the place offered my wife a sample spoonful of the key lime pie, (because we couldn't eat another bite.) this virtually guaranteed another return trip sometime in the near future.

jah mon, eets fantastic!. what a great little place! my wife and myself hit this joint for lunch on a saturday around noon. the place was almost filled and i'm glad we showed up when we did. our server was actually a friend of the owner who just happened to show up when things got busy. as a result he was thrown into action and did a mighty fine job i may add. my wife had the curried chicken wrap while i had the tropical chicken wrap. she was raving about how good it tasted and mine was so good that i really didn't want to share a taste with her! we both passed on the choice of fries or salad and instead had the soup that i had been reading so much about. the chicken soup was excellent! (thank you to all the urbanspoon contributors.) i had only heard about this restaurant in the past month and i was shocked to find it has been around for four years. i suggest everyone get out and give this great little place a shot. our total bill was only $23 and that included 25 percent gratuity.
