khan uncle's biryani house

the bengali biryani and rolls at this place can rival most places in kolkata. for someone who had not stayed in bengal for overaa decade and then find this gem of a place during our sikkim trip was absolute bliss.
the biryani was two big pieces of chicken, flavorful rice with onions and cucumber on the side. it was amazing.
the eggchickenroll was big, hearty and very tasty.

don't expect great ambience at this place but it sure does have some lip smacking authentic bengali food. cheers!

coming from kolkata, we were desperately looking for a biryani joint that serves calcutta style biryani. we hopped into this restaurant and had a good dinner.

location: it is located on mg marg, vishal gaon, in gangtok. the bright red tinge of this restaurant is difficult to miss. rating: 4.5/5

ambience: the walls are lined with bollywood themed memes and catchy posters. the vibe emanates happiness. rating: 4/5

staff: the staff is polite. however, the service is slightly slow probably because of the rush. rating: 3.5/5

food: we tasted the following:-

1. egg biryani (inr 160): though it was supposed to taste like calcutta style biryani, it tasted different. the flavours were strong and the two eggs and one potato tasted good. overall, it was decent. rating: 3.5/5

2.chickenbharta (inr 240): this was one of the bestchickenbharta i've had in a while. it was thick and flavourful. the quantity was sufficient for 3 people. rating: 5/5

3. tandoori roti (inr 25): we ordered 5 tandoori rotis. the rotis tasted decent but were way too crispy. rating: 3/5

overall, we enjoyed a good dinner at inr 550. we will visit again when we come to gangtok.

after spending couple of days and eating tibetan foods, thought of trying my all time favourite mughal dishes and walked into this restaurant. we ordered tandurichickenand hyderabadi biriyani. the taste of both the food was really awesome and mouth watering. behaviour of the staffs were also very nice(special mention ashok). the ambience is cool, all walls are having posters of famous bollywood movies and their dialogues. i’d highly recommend to give it a try.

i ordered tandoorichickenand got this...when i called and complained they said this is how normal tandoorichickenlooks like...so i recommend everyone not to order any tandoori item on the menu and the restaurant to not serve tandoori food if they cannot prepare it!!

this place is worth giving a try if you are a bollywood lover. loved the filmy ambience. definitely lifts up your mood. tried kolkatachickenbiryani, which was good.

a very filmy place , serves great biryani andchickenn veg rolls. the theme is filmy dialogues and posters of old n new hindi movies.

they have a seating capacity of about 40 people . a take away window is situated on the outside of the restaurant.

we ordered thechickenbiryani along with some double egg doublechickenrolls that were just amazing.

damages to the pocket - rs 315 ( approx us $ 4.5 ) for twochickenrolls and onechickenbiryani.

overall experience - its a must visit if u are in gangtok. i would rate this place 3 on 5.

great biryani place. it was only 8 pm when we entered their place, but the biryani was over!! the courteous service guy got the four of us a plate serving to not to make us leave the place disappointed. however, even thechickenrolls were remarkable. the ambience is great as well!!

khan uncle, mg road is amongst one of the best restaurants at mg road.
ambience is simple with filmy dialogues and comics all over. there will be hardly anyone i guess who wont stop for a minute or 2 for reading those catchy quotes.

service can be little slow during rush hours. they have a parcel counter and pretty large seating arrangement area.

they serve a mainly mughlai items. and quite a variety of biriyanis.
kolkata biriyani is pretty good.
also thechickendishes are good.
quantity is good.
price is reasonable, considering its situated in one of the touristy areas.

i visited this place and ordered hydrabadi biryani out of two biryani options available along with a can of coke.
after 10 minutes waiter came and informed me that hydrabadi biryani isnt available so i can go for other left option calcutta biryani which doesnt come with raita and gravy and ao i agreed.
finally i got biryani which was over cooked and piece ofchickenwas black because of overcooking. the coke was not cold.

i had a very bad exp. i think this place is overhyped . taste is pathetic. waiters are useless.
please dont waste your money visiting this place.
