khan uncle's biryani house

the bengali biryani and rolls at this place can rival most places in kolkata. for someone who had not stayed in bengal for overaa decade and then find this gem of a place during our sikkim trip was absolute bliss.
the biryani was two big pieces of chicken, flavorful rice with onions and cucumber on the side. it was amazing.
the egg chicken roll was big, hearty and very tasty.

don't expect great ambience at this place but it sure does have some lip smacking authentic bengali food. cheers!

coming from kolkata, we were desperately looking for a biryani joint that serves calcutta style biryani. we hopped into this restaurant and had a good dinner.

location: it is located on mg marg, vishal gaon, in gangtok. the bright red tinge of this restaurant is difficult to miss. rating: 4.5/5

ambience: the walls are lined with bollywood themed memes and catchy posters. the vibe emanates happiness. rating: 4/5

staff: the staff is polite. however, the service is slightly slow probably because of the rush. rating: 3.5/5

food: we tasted the following:-

1. egg biryani (inr 160): though it was supposed to taste like calcutta style biryani, it tasted different. the flavours were strong and the two eggs and one potato tasted good. overall, it was decent. rating: 3.5/5

2. chicken bharta (inr 240): this was one of the best chicken bharta i've had in a while. it was thick and flavourful. the quantity was sufficient for 3 people. rating: 5/5

3. tandoori roti (inr 25): we ordered 5 tandoori rotis. the rotis tasted decent but were way too crispy. rating: 3/5

overall, we enjoyed a good dinner at inr 550. we will visit again when we come to gangtok.

great place for biriyani. food quality and quantity are good. this is family restaurant and ambiance also good.

biriyani and fried rice both are well cooked.. and good in quantity. it is a family restaurant.. staffs are polite.

biryani pathetic, wasted my money and customer service stands zero.

after spending couple of days and eating tibetan foods, thought of trying my all time favourite mughal dishes and walked into this restaurant. we ordered tanduri chicken and hyderabadi biriyani. the taste of both the food was really awesome and mouth watering. behaviour of the staffs were also very nice(special mention ashok). the ambience is cool, all walls are having posters of famous bollywood movies and their dialogues. i’d highly recommend to give it a try.

coming from lachung and lachen we were calmly looking for a kabab and biriyani. it's really hard to find calcuttan style food. but finally through zomato we found the place. it is located on mg marg. another things if you love the filmy ambiance and bollywood plz go to the place, surely charming your mood.

biryanis were to die for. my partner relished the kolkata biryani. while i enjoyed the hyderabadi one. ambience was good. in the middle oh m g marg.

i ordered tandoori chicken and got this...when i called and complained they said this is how normal tandoori chicken looks like...so i recommend everyone not to order any tandoori item on the menu and the restaurant to not serve tandoori food if they cannot prepare it!!

this place is worth giving a try if you are a bollywood lover. loved the filmy ambience. definitely lifts up your mood. tried kolkata chicken biryani, which was good.

it's really hard to find a place for biryani in gangtok. but finally i got the place. it's over the mall road only. it's not like our kolkata biryani but it was quite tasty. comparatively it was a nice place to have meal over the mall road.

a very filmy place , serves great biryani and chicken n veg rolls. the theme is filmy dialogues and posters of old n new hindi movies.

they have a seating capacity of about 40 people . a take away window is situated on the outside of the restaurant.

we ordered the chicken biryani along with some double egg double chicken rolls that were just amazing.

damages to the pocket - rs 315 ( approx us $ 4.5 ) for two chicken rolls and one chicken biryani.

overall experience - its a must visit if u are in gangtok. i would rate this place 3 on 5.
