the thing that attracted me towards this place is the name 🤪 as it sounds something different so i was quite curious to pay a visit here. and then one fine day we opted this place for the dinner.
very lively ambiance, quite cosy and noisy. even they have open kitchen where u can peep in to see your food being cooked 😁
we started with ▪️mutton coconut fry. spicy and oily. small tender mutton pieces. not so dry with rings of onions on top of it alongwith coconut. that's wow!!!
next we had ▪️prawn puttu. for me something i had for the first time and i loved it. prawns were hidden inside the rice which was cooked in different style. too good.
▪️ ramapuram kozhi curry. not so spicy. very tasty gravy with flavour of coconut. it was paired with white rice..
▪️kappa vevichathu kudampuliyitta 🙄 though i was not able to pronounce the name properly to the staff but he made me understood what the dish is all about. tapioca cooked in different style. i didn't had much of it though.
▪️idiappam. it somewhat resembles chowmein 🤭 white coloured served in round patches.
▪️varal meen curry. this was the combo with idiappam which was been suggested by my friend. the meen (fish)currywas made awesome. fresh pieces of fish. a very tasty gravy 🤤🐟
next time for the desserts.
▪️kandahari icecream 😩 i never knew ice-cream can be so spicy 😂 fully different and beyond my imagination. had a different experience with this.
and then later i came to know about the meaning of kandahari (chilli 😂)
▪️payaru payasam. i am not a sweet person. so didn't had it much 🤪
so as a whole it was a greate team work to keep the customers happy and satisfied. from the food to the service till we left everything was nice. i liked the utensils they used. so antique!!
the portions they served were quite less compared to the price but the quality and taste of the food was good enough to make u keep on ordering.
an authentic destination for kerela cuisine. highly recommended for a super food spread.

an outstanding lunch experience on vishu

where do i start. not had classic "naadan" kerala food like what they served at kck. super awesome. neat clean decor. earthern ware. warm jeera water. the restaurant was packed (another 150 odd seats on the 1st floor). not a table vacant. lucky we had booked a table. succulent - just right- coconut mutton fry, syrian irathci starters. appam and mutton stew. kappa and meencurryfor the main course. delicious - would be an understatement. not overly spicy - just right portions and spice level. tender coconut pudding for desert. and reasonably priced. smiling, cheerful, helpful serving staff, with the promoters mingling with the guests and also helping serve food. will definitely plan another visit. they have a breakfast (please book a table said the owner) on sunday. shall plan that too. outstanding eating experience. keep going kck!!!

this was really in my wishlist for a long time and i was literally pestering my frnds to take me der.. atlast v settled der for a weekend dinner for my frnds bday.. v were a group of 8.. since the table was priorly booked.. v were made to sit as soon as c reached der.

ambience: it's located in one of the prime location of chennai... very neatly maintained.. loved the paintings hanged there.. seats were really comfy... since v booked the table prior or whatsoever v were made to sit in a round table.. that was really nice to communicate wit one another...

service : service was really really gud.,the person who waited us(vishnu i guess 😛 cuz i read it from the bill) was really sweet and cool enuf to explain my each and every doubt. he also suggested some items acc to our taste.. it was really a gud dining experience cuz of that guy..

oh yaa now coming to the food.. i for sure won't know the name of the dishes.. i will mention watt all i rem😛 but yaaa i should tel not even one dish tasted bad.. everything was yummy... only let down was quantity is really less.. all the food were designed like for the one person consumption.. may b two can share on it and not more than that.. other than that no complaints

p.s: this review is fully based on non vegetarian dishes.. tho 3 out of 8 was veg.. i din care much to even taste that or take pic cuz i was indulged in my own plate 😛

drinks:

v had chili guava punch, goli soda and queen of arabian sea.. guava juice wit a spicy twist was really gud.. goli soda was okok.. and the other ppl told it's gud.. thats the drink wit blue curruaco

starters:

❤️mutton coconut dry - a really really gud one wit coconut oil and roasted coconut chunks in it..

❤️vanjiram fish fry - v forgot the name.. it's something like ayakoora fish fry i guess.. but this was the star of the day.. v almost had 4 plates of it... the masala was the best i have ever had... a must try

❤️squid fry - it was koondhal something.. this was the next best dish.. tho the quantity was very very less.. it tasted realy yummm

❤️syrian beef fry -again a signature kerala dish.. was really really gud

❤️prawn fry -this was also well made and really gud

❤️clams - this was said to be famous in kerala.. a popular seafood over told as kakkan.. tasted it for the first time and loved it 😍

main course:

v all ordered rice wit gravies... rice one portion was jus 30 bucks.. but gud eaters can easily eat 2 portions of it.. v ordered some fishcurryand muttoncurryfor rice.. both of them went well wit the rice..

i also ate this one vegetarian dish which i can't be without mentioning.. it was a pineapple and nendhiram combo thing.. it was like that pachadi consistency... omg.. each spoon had a tinge of sweet and spiciness in it.. i loved it to the core..

desserts:

😍tender coconut pudding - this is a heaven every spoon for jus 90 bucks

😍elaneer payasam - again a gud one.. but too sweet for my taste

the bill for 8 ppl was arnd 5.8k... but then there was more than 15 starters ordered.. so yaa it's fine for once ina while for an awesome food 😍❤️

i will also attach the bill copy without prices for the name references 😁

awesome place , great food.. prompt service. special mention -the person managing the parking does an amazing job.. he too is prompt.
ambience - you will stare at till you get the food then you'll forget everything else.
now coming to food-
everything is correctly portioned. even if it looks a bit less sometimes.
we ordered an amazingly melt in your mouth pathiri with beefcurry, chicken pidicurry- rice balls soaked in a sauce which out of basic decency i didn't lick off the plate.
tender coconut pudding..(order one per person.) you won't want to share this;).
a chicken fry starter.. this is the real finger licking good deal.
would love to return. we traveled an hour to reach here and it was a treat.
kids would love it.there's a fish tank with i think the days catch.
our neighbour looked a lot like gvm.. his food looked delicious too:d.

it’s always a feel of home when you dine at some restaurants and @kckfoods is undoubtedly one of them with the amazing chef @chefregimathew checking on your table/orders personally with a sure shot suggestion thrown in somewhere which you would never regret!
if this was not enough for our frequent visit to this iconic restaurant we have another person to look forward to and get delighted by is chef @ramkumarv who with his traditional food stories will keep you engaged for hours!
with every item in their menu being meticulously deliberated upon this is a “never-to be-missed places” for food lovers! and when you have a veteran behind every food that you dig into trust me you are actually teleported to the origin of each of these dishes!
and when food is served with so much love just the way your grandmother would often feed you you can always expect the best at @kckfoods 😇

with their recently launched well curated set menus you would be spoilt for choices and would definitely find it difficult to put a finger on what’s the best thing that you just had!

i still managed to try some of their amazing fares and i would go back for more. for now, in the frame:

welcome drink/beverages- absolute kandhari (my personal favorite), passion fruit juice and goli soda (of course you are in tamilnadu)

starters- fish nellika masala and karimeen fry

main course (from the sey menu combos)- ammachi special, tody shop special and vayanasala special. my personal favorite being the “fishcurryin kodampulli masala”

dessert- cloud pudding, the best in chennai and you can never have enough of it.

as they say, you can never have enough of your mother or grandmother’s food, chef @chefregimathew and team at @kckfoods do this to you!

still in food coma 😍🤩

it's a get together with friends after 18 months since the covid started we missed this for long time but we started with an awesome place. the food was no doubt awesome, pidi kozhicurrywas something special. the chicken fry was simple and nice.
prawn kizhi is another one dish which was awesome the prawn prepared in bamboo leaf was simple superb.

kandari desert or beverage is something not for everyone but i loved it very much. the only disappointment was karimeen pozhichathu it wasn't in the level i expected which was disappointing.

i had heard a lot about this place and it was on my bucket list for a while so went with huge expectations only to be thoroughly disappointed! it's an upscale restaurant but the service was the worst i experienced in recent times. they took forever to take the orders and an eternity to serve the food. and after testing our patience to the max, they eventually served us cold food! they fixed it for the main-course after my complain but the damage was already done.
i ordered jalarani set which is priced at 1475 plus taxes. it has limited starters and unlimited main course. it is way overpriced for the quality of food they serve.
coming to food, among the starters chicken peralan, and mutton were good but prawn was overcooked and squid was so tough and chewy that it was inedible. all items were served cold! the beetroot sauce didn't make any sense as a dip as all the items were dry gravy types which don't need dip.
the karimeen polichathu was decent and good size but not the best i had.
in main course, kappa meencurryand ramassery idly chickencurrywere below average but the prawn moily gravy was exceptional and made an excellent combination with appam but the prawn were overcooked.
for desert, i had cloud pudding and it was easily the best dish i tasted here. if ever i go back, it will be only for this dessert!
also, don't think most of the meat served was fresh. i had an upset stomach the next day.
overall, i felt this place is overhyped and not value for money considering the poor service and mostly mediocre food especially when much better kerala cuisine options are available in chennai.

taste : 5/5 ; ambiance : 4/5 ; service : 4.5/5

kappa chakka kandhari or fondly known as kck is one of the happening places in chennai and no doubts about that.. within a short span they have managed to earn a fan following thanks to their yummy malyali - kerala cuisine.. the one restaurant that most of my friends recommend has to be kck.. but only recently have been able to try them.. but better late than never...

located on the haddows road its easily visible thanks to the broad frontage. has ample parking space with option to use valets too.. a small alley in the side leads to the big broad restaurant.. a big hall in looks accommodates spacious dining area.. given the current times a definite pro.. the restaurant is well ventilated and perfectly cooled too.. a open kitchen in the end is an added advantage..

the reason for the recent visit was the revamp in the menu.. to deal with current time and reduce human contact as much as possible they have launched set menus and one pot meals..

the set menus which are totally 9 in number with 3 veg and 6 non veg starting 575rs all the way to 1475rs have a complete meal incorporated in them.. along with option to choose a drink and dessert of choice the various menus have different starters and main course.. and all finish off with a suleimani chai..

even with less contact the service managed to impress us.. polite and friendly behavior of the servers was really good and also knowledge they had of the menu was appreciable..

we did try the various menus among us and given below are some of the must try items among them..

mutton coconut fry : definitely worth a try.. juicy and tender well cooked pieces of mutton fried with coconut shavings.. slightly spicy but very delicious..

chicken cutlet : one of the best cutlets.. soft and moist thanks to the well minced and mixed meat and perfectly fried.. the subtle aroma of the spices was just too good to experience..

prawn kizhi : prawn and coconut shavings cooked with kodumpuli which was later on wrapped in banana leaf and steamed.. the small pouch looks cute.. sweet and tangy but overall good taste and a must try..

idi iraichi : sundried beef crushed and fried.. loaded with flavors.. must try.. an experience in itself..

iraichi fry : one of the best beef dishes you can have.. the tenderloin cubes roasted to perfection.. the spicy and tangy taste was just too good.. must must try..

grilled jumbo prawn : not jumbo but usual prawns slightly bigger.. but the spicy taste of the tawa fried prawns was just too good.. with skin intact slightly hard to have.. but its a labor of love..

karimeen : had both polichathu and fry varieties.. the fish cooking was just perfect and the marinade too was spot on.. yummy and lip smackingly good.. the marinade on the fry was cooked better than on the policahthu..

poornachandran njandu fry : haven't had such a soft and well cooked crab.. crispy fried soft shell crab.. some thing i will definitely recommend..

pineapple nendram masala : given as a filler or a palate cleanser between starters and main course.. but it was too good in taste..

ramassery idli varuthacha chickencurry: soft and well made idlies served with chicken curry.. the chickencurrywith slight fried aroma complemented the idli very much..

thattum muttum : must try.. beef tenderloin cooked with tapioca.. slightly spicy and tangy.. but a mixture well cooked and a definite try..

idiyappam prawn thengapaalcurry: one of the best idiappams i have had served with a slightly sweeter coconut based prawn gravy.. together they worked wonders.. the slight shavings of coconut on the idiyappam were an added advantage..

pidi kozhicurry: small pidis in the coconut milk served with a chicken gravy.. mixed together and had.. the sweetness of the coconut milk along with the spicycurryjust went along well..

appam mutton stew : appam served with one of the best mutton stew.. the meat was so delicate and well cooked with the veggies.. the taste was just top notch..

prawn puttu biryani : a yummy prawn based semi gravy layered inside a rice caked mixed with coconut shavings.. a perfect combo imo..

kappa vevichathu kudampuliyitta fishcurry: man i just cant explain how good this was.. one of the best fish gravies i have ever had.. the kappa/ tapioca mashed and cooked with coconut was just too good to have with the fish gravy..

drinks : tried the nannari and kandhari.. the nannari was usual stuff but well made with apt amount of the syrup.. the kandhari touted as the spicy drink was managable.. just need to be careful as to not gulp it at once..

desserts : tried the cloud pudding, kandhari ice cream, pazham nanachatu, palada payasam and payaru payasam.. all were really good but the cloud puding and palada payasam topped the list..

kappa chakka kandhari did actually serve many best variants of food in chennai.. one thing common in most items was that they were the best.. the quality of the ingredients and the taste are unmatchable for sure.. top service and decent ambiance are added advantages.. and with all these in mind the pricing which definitely is on the higher side is actually justified for some special occasions or if you are craving from some top notch malayali cuisine...

i was very sceptical about going to kck after reading the reviews, but i decided to give a try. i must say i was pleasantly surprised and absolutely loved my experience. each dish has a unique flavour profile and is absolutely delicious! haven’t seen so much variety before in other kerala cuisine restaurants. also, their set menus are a good deal - while the portions may seem limited - it’s definitely fit for one person. only the starters and desserts are limited - main course is unlimited. if you’re going with a group - would suggest ordering different set combos so you’d get a chance to multiple dishes!

really enjoyed -

this place is known for its authentic flavours from the gods own country: kerala. i have visited this place quite a few times and at the time it's was a la carte concept. now when i visited it last, they have changed the concept and made it into a buffet kind of option. however the price for each plate of buffet starts minimum of 499 plus tax. and the items included in each portion of buffet, it's not necessary that a person may like each and all. so last sunday when i went there, it was not just me but all, that were confused withh the menu. they did not know what to order or what to eat. because as per the south indian concept, the menu given for the lunch time consisted mostly the items that we would either have during breakfast or dinner. so i was a lil bit disappointed of this chang d concept. my husband had order beefcurryand pazhampuri plate of buffet, and i had ordered kappa and meencurry, along with a veg buffet plate.. the server was quite nice to provide rice to me because i wanted to have rice with all the kerala curries we had got as the part of the buffet plates.. portion wise it was apt . it may look less at first but by the time u relish the food, u start filling up and u do not require another serving of anything.. at last we ordered for coconut pudding, it was thhe star of the buffet. u will have a variety of desserts to choose from but i chose the above and finished my meal with that..
a feedback to the owners of kappa chakka kandhari is that this buffet concept i didn't like it personally and i can say v confidently by looking at the faces of the people there bec everybody needed an explanation from the menu so u can infer how much confusing it was. if they can chang it back to the good old times it would be lovely 💞💞

we chanced upon this place on visiting nungambakkam. the food was exemplary with a region based fixed menu that gives and awesome experience of kerala cuisine. the starters like calamari roast , fried chicken and prawn kizhi were delicious while mains like pidi kizhicurrywere some novel items we had never tasted before...the idea of a fixed menu choice was brilliant in its execution. the tender coconut pudding was fresh and velvety. all in all a complete gastronomical delight. my only regret is we were too hungry to wait and take pics of the courses as they were served 😃😋
