kahawa

this could be considered as a 24hr café as they're open till 4am. the place has a nice relaxed ambience to it. they offer an eclectic menu with lots to choose from. loved the shakes and chillers which i've tried over the time, i would recommend the native belgian or the fudgy shake. burgers are decent with nice juicy patties and has a fresh taste. however the sandwiches was a let down i felt. finding a parking spot during the rush hours will be painstaking.

after a gap of 4 years, i finally visited kahawa again to try how it works now. well, i must say, its has gone even better in terms of taste. but in terms of vibrance, crowds and overall ambience, there is a rapid reduction.

i am a hardcore foodie, so not much worried about ambience factor. so coming to taste, it has gone even better than previous innings. i tried chicken steak sizzler (which happens to a favourite meal for me) and belgian chocolate shake.

coming to sizzler, its prefectly cooked, well grilled and topped with prefect flavourful brown  jus well cooked with pepper essence and laced with peppercorns and chilly flakes. it gives a burst of flavours unlike bland pepper sauces which normally comes for such steaks. a bit of some spice hints were in the sauce as it wasn't typical western kind one. but anyways, it was really awesome. the mash was well cooked and perfectly balled. no lumps and so smooth. i loved it. they provided extra pepper sauce which went well with the mash, giving more flavourful taste. the only drawback the bread toast served along with this. it was so amateurish and its only because of that, i reduces 0.5 points.  the bread toast is just ordinary bakery bought sliced bread, with a bit of butter spread on it and slight toasted on pan, as if its for some school children lunch boxes. actually the bread spoiled the beauty of the dish as such. i suggest, either offer one slice of garlic bread or texas toast (thick bread sliced, well toasted to brown) or just a small dinner roll with butter. or avoid this bread as whole itself.

okay coming to drinks, i had belgian chocolate shake, which was really bliss. never hard so thick shake back in kochi. normally in kerala, we get loose shakes. but this one was really thick, as good as shakes you get in american joints like johnny rockets or shake shack... i loved it. so overall, food was really good and i am really pleased.

now coming to ambience factor. well i am not much into it. but just for others. i felt, the store has gone more darker than previous.... it looked so dimmed, that there is absolutely no vibrance beyond the loud music they play. the main counter looks very dull and there was just 2 cakes in it. it gives a lack feeling. some more lighting is required to give cheerful youthful ambience. it looks more like a scaled down bar than a youthful cafe. kahawa has a reading area with mini library kind of stuff where you can get books and read. but now it looks as some old magazines hub with fwd and other local magazines as old as july 2013. infact every magazine on top was last years one.  ideally replace with some new ones, some books etc. and today the wifi wasn't connecting. so these all make the ambience factor dull for me and there was lack of life in the restaurant. but food was really great.

kahawa the favourite thing about this place is that's it's one of the manchester united cafes... all the games are streamed live in an exclusive area for the fans..

it's for those people who prefer sleeping in the day and wandering at night being open till 4 or so!!

the shakes and burgers and very good..
juicy lucy being my favourite burger..and shakes i think i'd choose the cookie shake!!

good ambience !! decent service !! have had many good memories here !!

thank you :)

recently visited this place with a friend of mine. the interior is something different not like the regular cafes i've been to in cochin. it renders to the needs of youngsters like playing good music, wifi etc.

i had their grilled chicken espagnol.  the chicken breast was tender and cooked well whereas the mashed potatoes were spot on. but the seasoning of the dish was bad which almost ruined the taste for me.
for chillers, i had their cookies n cream shake. it was okay-ish. the best part about this place is that its open till 3/4 am which is pretty amazing.
this place is located away from the congested side of the city , so getting here wouldn't be a hassle.

about this place the timing is what makes it special
it's open till 4 am,, that's a great thing for people like me, who feel like going out for a drive at midnight, and always wanting to eat.

the ambience is good, the service is also good. the time taken is a bit too long maybe because i'll be starving even before i enter,, the food is good, i usually have smoothies or hot chocolate or club sandwiches

prices are a bit higher on their end. but atleast they are open through the night.

there aren't many places which stay open really late in cochin, but kahawa bucks the tradition. hot chocolate at kahawa on a cold night out really perks you up, added attraction of being able to watch football matches being screened there

not sure if it was high expectation after reading the reviews, kahawa didn't strike a chord with my taste buds.
had roast beef sandwich, beef lasagne and chicken lasagne and to drink - passion fruit italian soda, orange italian soda and belgium chocolate drink.
drinks were high in sugar, so if you like very sweet, flavoured juices, go for this.
lasagne was a disappointment because the dish didn't have its trademark layers. it looked like, all the ingredients were put in a microwave bowl, and baked. was heavy on cheese, so didn't get flavours of the meat. i would have liked this served on a plate, not in a bowl, with the lasagne layered with meat, cheese, pasta, and again a layer of meat and cheese.
sandwich bread is just plan l, soft bread you get in the shops, and i think because the meat was slightly in gravy consistency, the soft bread became saggy, not able to hold the meat well. meat was juicy though and good quantity of meat served. fries served was the ordinary super market fries you get, nothing extraordinary.

ambience - decent with lot of books available.
service - fast
price - pricey for what is served

my overall rating is 3.

i personally would rate it average or maybe below average, because the portion size is really petit and the ambience is also average according to me, so is the service. according to me its nothing extravagant but yes a good place to hangout with your friends. the only bright side to this place is that its open till 4am and if you crave for something you could always visit kahawa.

if you're 10+ nos. and you want a decent place to chill sometime from 12 midnight to 3am, then this is the place to be. good food/drinks with free wifi* or books to read from their collections.

its high time they change the ambience of the restaurant. rest all good.

i was in love with this place until march. they did well and i liked sizzlers and lasagna and i tried almost everything. but in march i visited with my wifey and the mixed sizzler was not at all good. when i asked them they told that the previous chef left.. since then i also left!

this place is one of my favourite places in kochi and never disappoints me in terms of flavourful food. free wifi and courteous staff who are open to suggestions is another plus point. as far as i know this is the only pocket friendly cafe that is open late into the night. if i am not wrong it is open till 4 in the morning. by the way... don't forget to try their awesome shepherd's pie and the spicy mexcian fried rice.
