drove out here specifically for the beef cheek sandwich, so was devastated it was not available. majorly peeved, more at myself for not calling up - but who knew they wouldn't have their own signaturesandwichon. so ordered the chicken, positive i'd be disappointed, but it was prob one of the tastiest sandwiches i've had. definitely returning for the beef cheeks! the coffee is pretty good too. gabriel beans.

up there with one of the best sandwiches i've ever had. the only reason for docking 0.5 is because of their lack of phone ordering in advance, which means when ordering 7 for the office needed to be done in person. i guess it allowed us to walk around for a bit before picking up! have had both the beef cheeks and wagyu - colleagues had the chicken and fish, with audible comments of "holy crap where did you get these sangas from?!" justifying their standing as one of the bestsandwichshops around. by the way, they are quite large!

named after the guy who allegedly invented the sandwich, john montagu aims to bring sexy back to this less famous food creation. ( psstt. but we all know the burger had humble beginnings as asandwich) located along a tiny street of vintage looking double storey shop houses just off hyde park, john montagu,  steals the hearts and stomachs of many local dwellers.  sandwiches, you say, i had to get my hands on those. for the coffee junkies, you're in good hands. beans hail from di gabriel with a full bodied, nutty and toffee aroma. my 3/4 skim latte ($3.50) hits the spot. looking for a quick bite, i turned to the modest maffra cheese, ham and sage toastie ($6). simplicity is luxury here and my breakfast comes in the form of thick crusty slabs of bread sandwiching a glorious amount of melted cheese, ham and aromatic sage. the bread is from mosman's st honore bakery, a sturdy raft that benefited from the generous spread of good ole' butter inside and out. coarse black pepper scattered thr

warm and cosy cafe with delicious comfort food. we had the cuban porksandwichwhich was absolutely divine and the potato and leek soup with pulled pork which was great on a cold, rainy day. the soup was served with the yummiest wood fired bread lathered with butter. the drinks menu was also fantastic with some inventive flavours such as peppermint hot chocolate.

i ordered the famous beef cheek sandwich. thesandwichwas flavourful and colourful. however, it tasted more like mcbeef cheek - a lot of tomato and mayonnaise sauce. it would certainly taste better if the sauces were made in house so that thesandwichdid not taste like any other mass-produced food.

bit of a wait on the weekend but that was expected and also meant a lot of people think it’s good and worth waiting for!! i thought the mushroom opensandwichwas great, very tasty, but also nothing new i hadn’t tried before. it was actually not that heavy which i enjoyed. beef cheeks was full of flavour so if you like strong, punchy explosions with every bite, this is for you! iced chai latte was lovely. if you’re a regular chai tea drinker, this is one worth trying.

in short: some of the very best sandwiches in sydney, good coffee, genuinely friendly staff, a must do!.

a sandwich, is a sandwich, is a sandwich, right? wrong. especially if thatsandwichis made by none other than john montagu! well, ok, maybe not the original mr montagu and 4th earl of sandwich, the claimed inventor of the humble sandwich, but the café that bears his name.

come here for the beef cheekssandwich- twelve hour, slow cooked, melt-in-mouth beef cheeks, cushioned by rocket, cheddar, onion and horseradish and sandwiched in-between two warm and crunchy pieces of sourdough. it's finished off with the most addictive "house glaze" - i have no idea what this means or what it contains, but frankly don't care - it was seriously phenomenal. one of the best sandwiches i've ever had.

we walked past this place on the way to grab some cake at flour and stone. it looked packed to the brim, and i thought, if we can get a seat on the way back from the cake shop then i might grab asandwichthere! and i did. i ordered the spicy beef cheeksandwichand my partner got the bacon and scrambled eggs. the food was absolutely delicious! it's so amazing anyone can make a beef filled toastedsandwichso memorably beautiful and succulent! it is spicy though and a bit cheesy inside, so order other things if you cannot take spicy or cheesy. by the looks of the fully packed-ness of the premise, i think everything on the menu are equally good. oh, i didn't like the cold pressed coffee though - it was a bit bland but it is still has a nice aroma. i might order a standard coffee next time. they had other interesting drinks there that i look forward to trying next time. can't wait :-)

i ordered the beef cheeks, which was a decent, well presentedsandwich(especially with the added onsen egg!).

the 12 hour beef cheeks were deliciously tender and worked very well with the secret house glaze. i didn't like the rocket, however - the bitterness was too overpowering. the glaze did manage to balance part of the sandwich, but was not uniform enough to neutralise all of the rocket.

i didn't think a "beef cheeks"sandwichwould be worthy of 5.0, but yes, it is.

a very rich, flavoursome, slow-cooked beef is the absolute highlight of this place. my friends chose other things that looked reasonable, but to order anything but the beef cheeks is to do it a grave injustice.

if hitler himself had invented this dish, he would be almost forgiven for all other crimes.

who is john montagu? according to wikipedia, he was a british statesman in the eighteenth century, better known as the fourth earl ofsandwichwho supposedly invented sandwich!. if that was true, i am sure earl montagu would be very pleased with what john montagu in woolloomooloo has created under his name.
