drove out here specifically for the beef cheek sandwich, so was devastated it was not available. majorly peeved, more at myself for not calling up - but who knew they wouldn't have their own signature sandwich on. so ordered the chicken, positive i'd be disappointed, but it was prob one of the tastiest sandwiches i've had. definitely returning for the beef cheeks! thecoffeeis pretty good too. gabriel beans.

named after the guy who allegedly invented the sandwich, john montagu aims to bring sexy back to this less famous food creation. ( psstt. but we all know the burger had humble beginnings as a sandwich ) located along a tiny street of vintage looking double storey shop houses just off hyde park, john montagu,  steals the hearts and stomachs of many local dwellers.  sandwiches, you say, i had to get my hands on those. for thecoffeejunkies, you're in good hands. beans hail from di gabriel with a full bodied, nutty and toffee aroma. my 3/4 skim latte ($3.50) hits the spot. looking for a quick bite, i turned to the modest maffra cheese, ham and sage toastie ($6). simplicity is luxury here and my breakfast comes in the form of thick crusty slabs of bread sandwiching a glorious amount of melted cheese, ham and aromatic sage. the bread is from mosman's st honore bakery, a sturdy raft that benefited from the generous spread of good ole' butter inside and out. coarse black pepper scattered thr

we had a late breakfast here on good friday. staff were lovely and attentive and timely.coffeewas nice. salmon avo smash was fresh with nice big chunks of salmon. the burger and chips was fresh and tasty (they let you know the beef mince patty comes pink - i prefer more well done which was catered for with no issue). would happily return

popped in here for a quick bite to eat. got a park easily out front. i had looked at the menu before i came, so was a bit disappointed that the menu was limited being a public holiday. i was a bit set on the grilled chicken salad. they normally offer a huge range of toasties and bacon and egg buns; as well as house yogurt and salads. today there were 4 things on the menu, and one was sold out. there's lots of drinks, tea, chai, hot chocolate, iced tea, icedcoffeeand chocolate and an interesting sounding vitamin b soda, as well as cold pressed juices. they use house blend and single origincoffeebeans. it's a pretty casual joint and food comes out in take away bags and take away cups....or that could just be today as a money saving venture. we ordered the maffra cheddar and sage toastie (but no maffra so they used some other cheese, and mushrooms to add on. it was quite nice, the cheese was really good. we also ordered the egg and bacon bun, with scrambled egg, bacon and their special sauce (tomato relish) on a sesame seed bun. as nice as bacon egg rolls usually are with scrambled instead of fried egg. hubby got a latte which was gabriel's coffee. i got a nice cold brew with lime in it. also had to pay a 10% surcharge, being a public holiday, but without the full regular service, probably not warranted. i'd be interested to go back on a non public holiday.

we walked past this place on the way to grab some cake at flour and stone. it looked packed to the brim, and i thought, if we can get a seat on the way back from the cake shop then i might grab a sandwich there! and i did. i ordered the spicy beef cheek sandwich and my partner got the bacon and scrambled eggs. the food was absolutely delicious! it's so amazing anyone can make a beef filled toasted sandwich so memorably beautiful and succulent! it is spicy though and a bit cheesy inside, so order other things if you cannot take spicy or cheesy. by the looks of the fully packed-ness of the premise, i think everything on the menu are equally good. oh, i didn't like the cold pressedcoffeethough - it was a bit bland but it is still has a nice aroma. i might order a standardcoffeenext time. they had other interesting drinks there that i look forward to trying next time. can't wait :-)

bacon and egg roll, that is what i was told that i must have - and it was great, as was the eggs as was the eggs and the coffee.friendly, professional staff, with an eye on all the patrons - water glass getting low, coffeecup empty etc.i had often gone past this café on the bus and the morning walk down from elizabeth and along the bay to the café was well worth it.i sat at the window as i watched people pulling up, with cars, trucks, vans etc waiting while people came in for their takeaway breakfasts on a saturday morning.another café for regular visits.

tucked away in a cute corner of woolloomooloo is this bustling cafe. very cute feel to it. evidence: people hanging around outside with their dogs. for breakfast: an egg and bacon roll, but anywhere that serves 62 degree soft-boiled truffled eggs (for $3) is a winner to me.coffeewas good too. this entry was posted in food n' grog, review, sydney. bookmark the permalink.

my fiancée and i always come here for breakfast if we're heading to the city on the weekends. although a short menu, everything on it is amazing! seriously! the quality of the food is 👌 my faveourite item on the menu is the salmon. it's house cured so it's always fresh. they used to make a different version of the salmon but i dont mind the new version and i always add if not 1 then 2 truffle coddled eggs on the side. my fiancée always orders the beef cheeks and that's also mouth watering but it's not enough for him so he orders their bacon and egg bun with secret sauce. i live forcoffeeand this place always hits the spot. if you're after something refreshing try the vitamin b soda. staff and owners are always so welcoming and friendly.

best ever morning staff. not being a morning person and not functional until that first cup of coffee, the staff in there have made it their business to know what i need and start making it without the need for me to speak. they are friendly, warm and a pleasure to see. they start my day off well. and by the way the bestestcoffeeever.

best breakfast ever. i almost don't want to write this review to keep this place a secret of mine but the quality of food is too good. the poach eggs are the best - one of us wanted hers a bit hard and it turned out perfectly whilst mine were how poached eggs should be ie soft and runny. thecoffeeis smooth and creamy, they have 3 types of sourdough bread including wholemeal and whole grain - all on a sunday with the best service. i will be back.

john montagu? more like john monta-good!. where do i begin?

the cafe was a wonderfully relaxing way to spend my final morning in sydney.

thecoffeewas fantastic. the baristas? even better. i had to resist the urge to jump over the counter and give them a playful smack on the rear for giving me the best start to the morning.

i chose the cured salmon, dill, cream cheese and avocado on rye bread. yum...yum...yum. the staff have hit jackpot with that house cured salmon. and the truffled coddled egg added extra? more scrumptious than the staff, and that's saying something. (note: some may argue it's a poached soft boiled egg, let's not kid ourselves, it's a coddled egg).

baristas - cramazing.
manager - stunning.
cooks - bomb diggity.

well done john, well bloody done.
