0 by marc smith on 21 may, 2015 where to eat/drink share this post whether you’ve stayed up all night partying or you’ve had a restful sleep and just starting your day, brunch in the french quarter of new orleans at jimmy j’s cafe is the place to be. there will always be a line up but the wait is worth it so just be patient. in fact, while you are waiting in line head inside to the bar and order yourself abloodymary or any other drink that strikes your fancy. take your drink and head back to your place in line, everybody does and it is how i met my brunch buddies tori and chase . this young couple from texas was in line before me and commented on my lack of a beverage, from there a friendship was born over eggs and mimosas. brunch line up outside jimmy j’s cafe in new orleans jimmy j’s is located just a few short steps off canal street in the french quarter at 115 chartres street . it opened in 2011 and has fast become a destination for locals an

what happened to this place??. first two visits food was good, and service was personable and on point. third visit was during a busy sunday lunch with out of town guests. taking into account how busy they were, i was fine with the wait for a table as this place is quite small.

finally seated, took several minutes for our obviously not overly concerned server to greet us and take drink orders. as we were hot, tired, and thirsty the first round of beverages were quickly dispensed with. over 10 minutes later, after our server and the host (owner??), passed by our table of empty glasses we finally got refills and our food order taken.

steak & eggs were good, steak was slightly overcooked from the requested mr, but i was hungry and not sending it back.
oyster po-boy was lame. bread had no butter, was barely warmed, definitely not toasted. oysters way overcooked and lacked seasoning.
reuben was ok, fries were not crisp and too salty. they also tasted like old grease, fryer was burnt and needed changing!

now for the coups de gras.....the so called tomato mozzarella panini.......omg, how utterly disgusting! firstly, since when does a panini come on french bread? as for the mozzarella, it was shredded bag cheese, not fresh mozzarella. the pesto tasted fresh from the jar. and to top it off, the server forgot to order this from the kitchen, and looked confused when he brought out the rest of the order as one of our party had nothing in front of her. they rushed the sandwich, and the shredded cheese sandwich was delivered stone cold, with no melting of the cheese whatsoever!

i am not one to complain normally, and very rarely return food, but there was no way i was paying for the sandwich and it was removed from our bill. considering by this time the rest of us were done eating, my daughter refused another attempt at her "panini".

manager was aware of the situation, but never came to our table to say anything. server gave her a free piece of their butter cake, which was something at least. as for the cake, well i would not want to pay for it but it was ok.

an hour into lunch we finally got the check and low and behold our server had put a extrabloodymary on the ticket which we did not order. when i pointed this out, he said it was from the table before us. say what? every time a table is closed out in the computer, that order is gone-oh well, whatever, just get me out of here!

location is the only thing left going for this place. please get your food and service back up to par, being busy is no excuse for such ineptitude.

can't wait to go back!. my friends and i were looking for a breakfast spot sunday morning and came across jimmy j's, and i couldn't have been more pleased that we did! our waitress was so nice and even helped me decide on what to order... i went with the gulf shrimp and egg white burrito and my friend had eggs ranchero, both dishes were just fantastic! i loved the avocado cream on top, giant shrimp, fluffy egg whites, jalapenos (mhmm)... and i even stole a bite of the eggs ranchero, haha. ohh, and we had a delicious cucumberbloodymary to wash it all down! my only regret is that we went at the end of our weekend. i can't wait until our next trip to new orleans to try some more yummy dishes :) thank you jimmy j's!

absolutely perfect atmosphere and food. we had a great server, jo, who brought us a cheese omelet ("we'll make it the ham and cheese without ham and with extra cheese") and eggs ranchero hot and good, and even though the place was packed with a long line outside nobody seemed to mind that we wanted to linger a little and order a mimosa after breakfast. they have a baconbloodymary that looked great, too, when a neighboring table ordered it--with two strips of bacon immersed in the vodka and tomato juice--and the home fries were crispy and warm. we're in no for a week and will be back for another meal, maybe the monte cristo french toast.

fantastic locally roasted coffee. prompt service. recommend the cucumberbloodymary and the signature benedict with pulled pork or the traditional with jalopeno hollandaise sauce. only a few tables inside so be patient, have abloodymary and chill until a table quickly opens.
