jethro’s has gotten a lot of attention because it has incredible food and catering, but it has also been featured in the media for their adam emmenecker challenge. in this challenge, one has 15 minutes to eat a sandwich composed of a spicy pickle, tenderloin, buffalo chicken tenders, fried cheese cubes, texas brisket, bacon, cheese burger, and a bun. and a pound ofwafflefries.

this place is awesome. we split an order ofwafflefry nachos and the brisket platter. thewafflefries were crazy good - chicken had tons of flavor with a nice little kick. the platter had a nice selection of meats, but i’ll admit that i will be getting burnt ends next time through; omg...

great atmosphere, friendly staff, just stop in.

we started with wings. our sauces were traditional buffalo sauce and hot bbq. hot bbq was the winner there. we then split home and gardens patty melt which was very plain. the turkey surprisingly had good flavor. we were going to get sweet potato fries for a side, we could see the ones they were using in the line window. they sat in the window for over 15 minutes along with thewafflefries. so we picked mac and cheese which is awful. tasted like powered cheese mixed with water. overall, i'd recommend another bbq place. they don't have burnt ends which is disappointing. smokey d's is way better and not as pricey.

stopped on the way thru town for a bite. i had breakfast "nachos" -wafflefries, white cheddar sauce, eggs, shredded cheddar, & my choice of meat (brisket). it came w/excellent sides of pico, guacamole, & sour cream. hubby had bbq dinner - one meat of choice (brisket) 2 sides (beans/potato salad) & cornbread. kids had mac & cheese & applesauce, both homemade. that plus 4 drinks was $40 + tip. i was pretty excited by my dish - every component was good & worked well together. hubby wasn't as enthusiastic, felt bbq & sides were just ok. kids liked their meal. service was great & super speedy.

jethro's usually delivers. jethro's usually delivers a pretty good value and decent atmosphere. portions are outrageously large.

i'm very partial to the bulldog burger - a tasty 1/2-pound burger topped with fried peppers, cheese and healthy amount of beef brisket. chicken wings are usually good (best at the forest avenue location). most of their appetizers are more than meal sized too and often will suffice as an entree. the o-rings are big and very heavy on the corn flour, which i don't recommend.

side-wise, theirwafflefries are always good. other sides also deliver, like the apples or sweet potato fries.

don't order a salad. it's ice berg all the way baby!

disapointed. i was excited to go and try the new jethro's in waukee, but left disapointed. the brisket was cold and we didn't get our sausage that we ordered for our 2 meat/rib combo. over priced beer. the only things that were good were the wings, bbq sauce, andwafflefries. the jalapeno corn tasted awful! it tastes like it was sitting in a fire for one week. the beans looked liked they were sitting outside for another week. one other good thing is that the waitresses were good looking. overall i would not ever go back.

it's loaded with a bunch of stuff like cheese sticks, bacon, hamburger patty, beef brisket, pork tenderloin, buffalo chicken strips, covered by cheese sauce on a toasted bun. our choice of side was awafflefries. three of had a tough time finishing it in 15 minutes. pretty tasty.

great bbq at a reasonable price!. heard about this place before i moved to dm and i have had it on my places to visit for a while. boy was i missing out!!

i ordered the full rack of rib withwafflefries (see photo) and i was completely blown away. these were the best ribs i have ever tasted. they had a dry-rub on them and were smoked. they were also served without sauce on them but the table had 6 different sauces bottles on them to choose from. i like the hot bbq but the orginal jethro's bbq was great as well. the ribs were so tender there was no need to use a knife to cut the bones apart (just the way ribs should be!) thewafflefries were well seasoned and piled high. so much food i had to take some home.

the price was pretty standard i thought and it was definitely worth it! i will be visiting this place quite often.

great bbq and a fun place. love this place! the bbq is great, the sides are delicious, thewafflefries are fantastic (i love dipping them in the different bbq sauces), and the place is a lot of fun. the service is almost always friendly and fast. the prices are a little high for lunch, but it's better bbq than you can get anywhere else in the neighborhood so it's worth the extra few dollars.

great bbq!. best in des moines, i'd say. i've been here quite a few times and i love their barbecue! it's expensive, but you really do get what you pay for. their pulled pork is second to none--it almost melts in your mouth. their white cheddar nachowafflefry dish is amazing, too! the brisket was a bit dry when i tried it awhile ago, but i haven't tried it again so it could have been a fluke. their cornbread rolls are also really amazing. they come with the meat dinners, and i'm almost tempted to order one or two more in lieu of a side dish!

good bbq. i like jethros, the portions are large and fairly priced for what you get. i had the sliders..small brisket, chicken and pork sandwiches...all of which were really good. my first visit i sub the sweet onion rings forwafflefries and the 2nd visit they wouldn't let me which i thought was poor service, really no profit loss in switching out onion rings for fries..hmmm. out 3rd visit, i went with the brisket melt, hold the swiss cheese and it was served in a large portion on texas toast, it was perfect. the kids ordered a chicken strip basket which the chicken strips were hugh and right for splitting. they also love their mac n cheese. my wife had the brisket and the chicken sandwich twice...3 positive experiences, actually saying she loved the brisket. she loved thewafflefries…i thought they were ok. good environment for a family of 5.
we took the family to woodys and ordered similar meals. we were completely amazed in the staff's poor service; non family friendly tall wobbly tables/bar chairs and worst yet their "award winning" second-rate food.
