a yummy surprise. this place had been two unsuccessful restaurants before italian garden came in, so i wasn't expecting too much. but we were craving a casual italian, and we thought to give it a try. as soon as we came in, we noticed a woman (relative of the owner, we thought) who was sitting at a corner table with some other relatives. my son said that she looked just like his nonna---a good sign for an italian place!
we really enjoyed this place--both the very friendly service and the fresh & yummy food. the garlic rolls were great (similar to sicily's on 380), and the food was very good. my husband (an italian-born jersey boy) ordered the chicken parm--something he does on his first visit to all italian restaurants. he approved and ate the whole thing! the chicken was a little thicker than what he is used to, but it was thinner than most americanized italian places. the red sauce was a very well-made sauce, and the pasta was perfectly al dente. my dish was the chicken murphy, and i looooved it. our son had the kid's spaghetti and meatball, and it was plenty for him (7-year-old). the meatball was tender just like nonna makes hers.
overall, we liked this place a lot, and it will probably be our go-to little italian place from now on. we just hope that more people discover it behind all of the construction and despite the past two failures before it came.
