iron cactus mexican restaurant and margarita bar

that's not salsa. i went with a large group during a convention and i will say service was handled well. i ordered the yucatan fish tacos. they were forgettable. the white fish was paper thin about 6 inches long by an inch wide. there was one piece of said fish in each of two tacos. the aforementioned mango salsa? 3 huge chunks of mango (larger than a die) and a wilted stem of cilantro! my sides were about two tablespoons of black beans mixed with corn and a quarter cup of rice. i definitely wouldn't recommend

great food.. my husband and i came here on date night and weren't disappointed. i recommend the jalapeño cucumber margarita. delicious!

the chicken fajita nachos that i ordered were not extraordinary but satisfied my craving. it was an appetizer portion of crispy tostadas topped with grilled chicken, refried beans and blended cheese. they were served with a small dollop of guacamole and sour cream, along with sliced jalapeños and pico de gallo. keith ordered a heartier meal of stacked pork enchiladas. these pork carnitas were stacked on red corn tortillas and layered with hatch green chiles, rajas, and monterrey jack cheese.

not bad, about over priced and service was slow. good view and drink were good. food.... needs some work

an extensive menu and lots of margarita, what’s not to like? i went to austin with friends recently. it was my first time in austin and of course we made it our mission to try tex-mex food as soon as we got there. the iron cactus was recommended to us at our hotel and so we hopped on the shuttle and headed downtown. upon arrival we found ourselves in a spacious dining room with a bar in the middle and a second floor with extra seating. we sat by the window and started to peruse the menu. the first thing i noticed was the margaritas.

iron cactus is awesome! the staff is friendly and accommodating and the food is down right tasty!! j.r. was my server today and he totally rocks!!

didn't live up to the hype, sorry. service was slow and spotty. (one tiny dish of salsa for a table of 6) a runner spilled salsa all over a friend's purse and it wasn't handled well. the manager did come and try to get the spot out, i'll give him credit, he tried. but we were then treated pretty poorly by our server, had to ask several times for drink refills and checks. my ahi seviche was very good, however. my margarita was way too sweet and artificial-tasting, though. we were disappointed.

tried the shrimp enchiladas and a peach/strawberry margarita...both were excellent. it was very busy but we were still seated in a very timely manner and had great customer service.

i love iron cactus. it might not be the best or most authentic mexican food ever, but it's good, they give you a lot, and the atmosphere is great. the salsa is really good, decent menu selection, and great margaritas. just a nice, casual place to eat with friends, family, or your significant other. i like this much better than chuys.

fish tacos were disappointing, the balcony seating and good tequila/ margarita selection are its only saving grace. i'd come back for drinks, not dinner!

fantastic dinner. they have an extensive gluten free menu and the best meatloaf and roasted pork loin that i've ever had. salsa and warm chips are included in the price and the corn chips are the lightest and crispiest ever! wonderful food. i wish we had one in ohio. it is a must the next time we are in austin.

it is has a great location, moderate prices that i would say are very fair, and are server was happy to help. if your an enchilada fan try the steak colorado enchiladas, they were great!

6th avenue is pumping! sxsw has turned the street into a hot bed of music, people and food! we are happy to wait for a table and enjoy a beer or two at iron cactus, a highly recommended spot for some mexican! it's not long before we are installed at our table and salivating over the menu!! chips and salsa arrive and we are happily chowing down on salty nachos and tangy salsa! i have been told we have to have the table side guacamole the "iron cactus guacamole made by your server at the table. it doesn't get any fresher than this!!" and they aren't wrong! a huge tray appears and our server expertly combines fresh avocado, coriander, onion, tomato… yum!! the only problem is we are enjoying this soooo much we are eating a lot of chippies! there might not be room for tacos at this rate! especially when we get the cheesey dip arriving too - it is soooooooo good it must be bad for you!! beers, chips, dips = heaven!! mains arrive and we give up the chips! my baja fish tacos are beautiful! c

great cactus juice, excellent rooftop, awesome bartender daniel!!!

they have a pretty good array of tequila behind the bar. he makes us a decent drink with fresh lime and agave nectar.
